Misgivings

thehotty : Alright people, I'm getting tired of this.

Sesshoumaru : Oh no.

Kagome : Here we go again.

thehotty : Shut up! I want reviews! Tons of reviews. I'm tired of little puny one or two reviews per chapter. That's just utterly silly.

Sesshoumaru : Your point?

thehotty : I'll kill you if you try to talk again Sesshoumaru!

Sesshoumaru : O.o

thehotty : Review or this story will be held at ransom! That is the ultematum, and there's nothing you can do about it. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Kagome : Please review. I hate it when she holds us for ransom.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sesshoumaru sat in front of his fathers’ desk. Kibito sat next to him with Inu Yasha on the other side.
“So, did you think of a name?” Inu-no asked.
Sesshoumaru shook his head. “We didn’t have time to think about names,” he answered.
Inu Yasha scoffed. “Of course not. You were to busy doing it doggy style and sleeping.”
Inu-no and Sesshoumaru both shot glared at Inu Yasha. “That’s none of your business brother,” Sesshoumaru answered with his stoic voice.
Inu-no shook his head. “Imagine that for just a moment and you’d be blind,” he countered.
Inu Yasha laughed. “Your right. I would be. It’s a good thing I don’t have much of an imagination then, huh?” he asked.
“Just picture what I was doing to her during all those noises,” Sesshoumaru offered.
Inu Yasha yelled and covered his ears while trying to shut his eyes. Kibito made gagging noises next to Sesshoumaru while Inu-no tried not to tear his own eyes out. Sesshoumaru smirked, successfully torturing all three without moving.
A knock came on the door and Sesshoumaru called for the person to enter.
Kagome opened the door and saw the men around her mate gagging and pretending to throw up and threw a questioning look at Sesshoumaru. He shook his head and she shrugged her shoulders, figuring she didn’t want to know what they were talking about just before she came down there. She closed the doors behind her and moved to sit next to Sesshoumaru.
“The kids are sleeping finally. What’s going on in here?” she asked, finally gaining Inu-no’s and Kibito’s attention. Inu Yasha began choking himself at the sound of her voice.
She smacked him in the head. “You know, I don’t know what you all were just talking about, but you don’t need to go and try to kill yourself at the sound of my voice, jack-ass,” she hissed at him.
Inu Yasha opened his eyes. “I think I’m scared for life!” he yelled out.
“We all are, but shut up Inu Yasha,” Inu-no answered, ending the conversation. He faced Kagome and smiled. “Congratulations, darling. A full blooded baby boy demon! I’m proud of you!”
Kibito smiled. “I’m going to be a grandfather finally!” he cheered, hugging Kagome.
Inu Yasha once again gagged and tried to settle down. “I am scared!”
“What the hell are you scared from?” Kagome asked, facing him. “And don’t lie to me! I already found out you were lying to me earlier when I asked what you said to my mate!”
“You and Ice Prick here! That’s just wrong,” he called out, trying to close his eyes from the vision once again.
Kagome gave Sesshoumaru a questioning look before totally ignoring Inu Yasha completely.
“So, did you pick a name yet?” Inu-no asked.
Kagome shook her head. “Not yet, but I figured it could be a family effort. I told the kids already and told them to help think of names.”
Sesshoumaru nodded. “I think that is a wise decision.”
Inu-no smiled. “That’s wonderful. Now, only if we can get grandchildren out of Kikyou and Inu Yasha!”
Kibito nodded. “It helps that they’re expecting already,” he added.
Inu Yasha’s eyes bulged. “How did you know about that already?” he asked.
“It is my castle. You expect things to happen around here without me finding out?” he asked. “Plus, the cradle and other baby furniture arrived today. Nobody else is pregnant, so it must be Kikyou,” he reasoned.
Kagome laughed. “I knew you wouldn’t keep that secret from Dad for long. He’d find out even if the furniture didn’t show up. You know, he’s got ears in the walls.”
Kibito’s face scrunched up. “I don’t want you to ever say I’ve got eyes in the walls too,” he said. “I think some things are better left unseen.”
Inu-no laughed while Inu Yasha once again began choking himself. Kagome, finally catching on, flushed a deep red and buried her face in Sesshoumaru’s shoulder, who in turn smirked.
The five of them talked about preparations for the on-coming pups and events before Izayoi and Kikyou had come in to drag their mates off to bed. Kibito had spilled the beans to Izayoi about the girls and both Kikyou and Kagome had to beg their mates and fathers to get the woman to bed and take them to bed as well. Finally agreeing to do so, they all left with ‘good-night’s and ‘see you in the morning’s.
Kagome once again found herself in formal Ceremony clothing and sitting in front of a Miroku, who was administrating the Mating Ceremony blessings. She listened as Miroku droned on about eternal love and bliss mixed up with Buddha. She glanced over at Sesshoumaru out of the corner of her eye and saw him watching her closely. She smiled slightly to him before turning her attention back to Miroku, who now was addressing Sesshoumaru.
Sesshoumaru nodded in understanding. Miroku then turned to Kagome and addressed her. She followed Sesshoumaru’s lead and tuned him out once again, instead favoring in listening Inu Yasha make gagging noises somewhere behind her. She wanted to punch him in the face for some reason, but decided that at the moment, it wasn’t appropriate. She’d do it while everyone was dancing and eating.
Miroku had handed Sesshoumaru a cup of tea and then turned to Kagome to hand her one as well. They were supposed to drink it together and then mark each other, and then listen to Miroku drone on longer. So she did as she was supposed to, keeping an eye on Sesshoumaru the whole time making sure she didn’t drink to much, or to little. After it was all gone, she wanted to go throw it back up, it tasted nasty in her opinion, along with the babies, she turned to face Sesshoumaru.
Miroku moved their hair out of the way so that it didn’t get in the way of the marking. He lowered Kagome’s head and positioned it at Sesshoumaru’s neck and then did the same for Sesshoumaru on Kagome’s. Once they were positioned correctly, they bit into each other, taking in the others blood and marking each other for life. As Sesshoumaru pulled out, so did Kagome, now allowed to face her mate, she sat watching him as Miroku droned on once more. She smiled at him as he smirked at her.
Inu Yasha was still making quite a racket in the background, almost testing Kagome. As Miroku dismissed everyone for food and dancing, Kagome turned her eyes to find Inu Yasha and glare at him.
Sesshoumaru rolled his eyes. He knew that she wasn’t concentrating on Miroku, but his idiot brothers stupid noises. The pregnancy had proven to affect her attention span, as most did. He threw a glare at his brother as well and helped Kagome to her feet. She smiled at him and gave him a kiss on the lips, which resulted in a false barfing noise. She sighed and shook her head.
“Some people just can’t be respectful,” she commented. “Please excuse me a moment darling.”
She strolled over to where Inu Yasha was. He watched her closely.
“What do you want?” he asked.
Kagome drew back her fist and it flew true, knocking Inu Yasha to the ground. He lay on the ground and glared up at Kagome.
“WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT FOR?” he yelled at her.
Sesshoumaru walked up behind his mate and looked down at Inu Yasha. “That, dear brother, was for being rude during our ceremony. We do not care if you are scared for life because of us. You will not disrespect us at our mating ceremony. Now find your mate and go to the party. Father and Kikyou will hear about this,” he answered.
Sesshoumaru offered his arm to his mate, who took it great-fully, and lead her to the dinning hall. As they entered, a wave of applause met them. A group of women stood in a corner glaring at her, obviously the women from her wedding party. Sesshoumaru lead them to their seats where they sat down and toasts were given. Kagome ignored most of them, not really caring what people had to say to her. She wanted to eat and then go to sleep.
After the food was served and everyone had eaten, Inu-no had managed to make it over to them. Kagome was in a much better mood then she had been before the food had arrived and started to feel like talking to people again.
“Ah, I was wondering if I could ask you a question.” Sesshoumaru nodded at this, allowing Inu-no to continue. “Why did you punch Inu Yasha?” he asked Kagome.
She rolled her eyes. “He kept gagging in the background and then he decided to be ruder by pretending to throw up when we kissed. I didn’t appreciate it,” Kagome answered simply.
Inu-no nodded wisely. “If he would have done that at my mating ceremony, I would have kicked him out of the house for a month. Have you told Kikyou this yet?” he asked.
Sesshoumaru shook his head. “Not yet, but since she’s coming over here right now, she will find out.”
Kikyou sighed and sat down next to Inu-no. “I heard what happened. I’m sorry he was so rude during the ceremony. I just finished yelling at him and kicking his ass. He’s sleeping in the babies room for the next week. He’s not too happy about it though.”
Kagome huffed. “Who cares if he’s happy? He was rude. He deserves to be castrated.”
Sesshoumaru nodded and smirked. “He deserves worse darling.”
Inu-no shook his head. “And that’s why you two are meant to be together. You’re both mean when you want to be.”
The four of them laughed before Kikyou decided that she was going to bed. Kagome watched as Inu Yasha followed behind Kikyou like a lost puppy. She then turned to face Sesshoumaru. “I’m tired. You wouldn’t mind going to be early, do you?” she asked.
He shook his head and said his good-night to Inu-no before the two of them left to go to bed.
Kagome stared at the ceiling listening to the children ramble off names that didn’t make any sense. Sesshoumaru watched her lay on their bed. She was showing now after three months. Her sister was about due. The kids had been collecting names from the strangest places and sharing them with the two of them in hopes that one would eventually work.
“How about Musho?” Rin asked.
“I know! Buyo! That’s a good name, right?” Shippo called out.
“Hojo. Rin likes Hojo.”
“Hojo’s not cool. I like Kyo!” Shippo retaliated.
At that name, Kagome sat up and looked at Sesshoumaru. “I like that name. Out of all the names we’ve all thought up, I like that one the most,” she said.
Rin and Shippo faced Kagome, braking up the argument that always ensued with the ‘not cool’ routine. Sesshoumaru looked down at Rin.
“What do you think?” he asked her.
She glanced at Shippo before looking at Kagome. Kagome smiled brightly at the little girl. “Rin likes it if Mamma likes it,” she answered.
Kagome looked up to Sesshoumaru. “What do you think darling? Does Kyo sound good to you?” she asked, placing her hand on the lump of her stomach.
He walked over to the bed and sat down next to her. He placed his hand over hers and nodded. “I think his name is Kyo. It sounds right,” he answered.
The children cheered and climbed onto the bed. They both reached out their hands and placed them on Kagome’s stomach. After a minute of them all holding it, for the first time, they felt it kick.
Rin looked up in wonder. “Was that Kyo?” she asked.
Kagome smiled and looked up at Sesshoumaru. “Kyo it is then. Our little boy likes it too.”
Sesshoumaru kissed her soundly as Shippo awed and stared at her belly. A loud knock broke up the family moment and Sesshoumaru sighed, signaling that Miroku was on the other side of the door to gather up Kagome so Sango could go over a few plans for their wedding.
Kagome kissed his cheek and called for Miroku to enter. The door opened and the monk stepped in.
“Excuse me, but Kagome, my darling Sango would like to go over a few things. I hope you don’t mind.” He bowed to the two. “I can help you get to Sango if you need assistance.”
Kagome smiled and stood up. “Alright. I’m coming. Rin, Shippo, lessons,” she said, motioning for the two children to get moving. She followed after the children and up to Miroku. Sesshoumaru followed after her.
“I’ll see you at dinner,” Kagome said, smiling up at him. He nodded before he took off towards the study.
She followed after Miroku, who was now leading her down the hall to where ever Sango had decided to look at fabrics or flowers. As they walked, Miroku kept looking back at Kagome. She’d smile at him while wondering what was on his mind. After a few minutes of it, she couldn’t take it anymore.
“Miroku, is there something wrong?” she asked.
He turned to face her and shook her head. “No. Why do you ask?”
She gave him an appraising look before answering. “You’re acting strange. You keep looking at me like I might kill you or something. What’s going on?” she asked.
“Nothing. Everything is fine,” Miroku insisted.
Kagome rolled her eyes. “Miroku. Stop lying to me. Just tell me what’s wrong.”
Miroku looked around them before turning to face Kagome. “I’m not sure I want to get married. Well, I’m sure, I just don’t think I’m ready to settle down and have a family.”
Kagome nodded in understanding. “That’s natural. I didn’t want to marry Sesshoumaru, but after it happened, I was more at ease with it, you know. Once it happens, it’ll be natural. Like you’ve been married your whole life. Plus, nobodies saying you have to start having children right away. Unless Sango bullies you into it,” she joked. “Don’t worry about anything.”
“I’m still not sure though,” Miroku said, shaking his head. “I mean, what if we marry and then, all of a sudden out of the blue, I meet the woman of my dreams and want to marry her? I wouldn’t be able to do it, because I’d be married to Sango.”
Kagome glared at Miroku. “Are you telling me you don’t love Sango? That she’d be just a burden on your shoulders? That she’s not the woman of your dreams?” she asked.
Miroku shook his head. “Iie! She is the woman of my dreams, but it’s a metaphorical question. What I was trying to say is what if I marry Sango and something better comes along?” he tried again.
Kagome’s glare hardened. “So Sango isn’t everything you ever wanted? She’s not the best out there?”
Miroku hung his head. “Iie. She is the best. I will drop this now.” He turned around to show her to where Sango waited.
Kagome followed. “You know, you should talk to Sesshoumaru. He might be able to make you feel better about getting married. He should be in his study,” she offered to settle him.
Miroku nodded. “I think I will take you up on that offer. He should be able to settle my fears.”
Kagome laughed. “Hai. He’ll call them foolish human emotions and to get over it,” she joked with him.
Miroku laughed as well. He stopped in front of a door and motioned for Kagome to enter. “Sango won’t let me even look at anything for the wedding. Says it’s all her choice and I have no say.”
Kagome nodded and went into the room, leaving Miroku to go find her mate.
As Miroku approached Sesshoumaru’s study, he began to have second thoughts about speaking to the demon. There wasn’t anyone else he could talk to either, for that matter, leaving Sesshoumaru as the only choice. Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door.
Sesshoumaru issued an enter, in which Miroku obeyed.
Upon opening the door, Sesshoumaru looked up from his papers and to the monk. “What is it?” he asked, cutting straight to the chase.
Miroku bowed. “Excuse me for interrupting, Sesshoumaru-sama. Kagome suggested I speak to you about an issue I have. She told me that you could give me the best advice.”
Sesshoumaru put down the scroll in his hand and motioned for the monk to sit. Miroku once again obeyed.
“What do you need advice on?” Sesshoumaru asked.
“I’m having second thoughts about my marriage. I tried to explain it to Lady Kagome, but I just managed to upset her in doing so. So she told me to talk to you.”
Sesshoumaru glared at the monk. “What did you say to my mate to upset her?” he asked.
“I tried to explain that I was afraid that if I married now, and something better came by, I wouldn’t be able to take my chance with that. I don’t want to miss out on the best,” he tried to explain.
Sesshoumaru nodded. “So Sango is not the best for you?” he asked.
Miroku shook his head. “Iie. See, that’s the thing. She is the best for me. But you never know if she’s going to be the best for you in a few years. Something better could come walking down the street, you know?” he tried again.
Sesshoumaru shook his head. “I believe you do not have your head straight. Love does not work that way, monk. Either you know you wish to spend the rest of your life with someone, or you don’t. It’s that simple. When you lay in your bed by yourself late at night, do you wish that someone was lying next to you?” he asked.
Miroku nodded his head. “Everyone does. It’s just a normal occurrence. That’s all,” he tried to justify.
Sesshoumaru shook his head. “It isn’t. It only happens when you have met the person you are meant to spend the rest of your life with. Nobody else. Who is it that you wish to lay next to you for the rest of your life?” he asked again.
“Sango, but still, I’m having second thoughts. What if it’s not what I want? What if it’s just a strong lust? What then?” Miroku asked.
Sesshoumaru repressed a sigh. “Nigen. You are being foolish. Continue on this path and your woman will eventually figure it out and leave you. Do you wish for that?”
Miroku stared wide eyed. “NO! I don’t want Sango to leave. I want her with me,” he answered.
“Then I suggest you stop this train of thought and move on to the future,” he advised.
Miroku nodded. “Of course. May I ask one more question?” he asked.
Sesshoumaru nodded.
“How did you know that Kagome was the one for you?”
Sesshoumaru smirked. “My dreams told me.”
Miroku watched him for a minute before deciding that he was satisfied with the answer. He stood up and left the study to meditate on the conversation.
