Chapter 15: Reunited
Sesshoumaru was anxious to return back to the Western Kingdom. Though he had informed Inuyasha of the prophecy for the most part, there still were answers to questions that needed to be revealed. Much to the dismay of the others Sesshoumaru asked them not to say anything of the prophecy to Kagome.
“How do you figure we can keep this a secret from her?” Inuyasha asked angrily. “Don’t you think she’ll realize that we’ll be acting differently towards each other now, and get suspicious?”
Sesshoumaru glanced at Miroku and Sango who had worried looks on their faces and shook his head. “We can not reveal this to her yet. It is not our place.”
Shippo who had been silent and staring at Kagome, looked at Sesshoumaru from atop Inuyasha’s shoulder. “I can already see momma changing slightly.” He gestured to her ears which were no longer a normal round shape, but elongating into elflike points. “Don’t you think she will notice the changes in her appearance?”
Sesshoumaru regarded the pup with a small frown. He had not suspected that she would start changing so rapidly. He gently reached over and caressed her new ears that resembled his own in wonder. “We have to go to my kingdom in the west and summon all to us who will fight against the corruption.”
Miroku took a breath as he clenched the hand that housed the void in his palm. “The final battle is approaching isn’t it,” he asked quietly.
“Even I don’t have all the answers monk, which is why we need to make haste in our journey,” Sesshoumaru answered and then gestured to his retainer. “Jaken, take Rin and Shippo ahead to the palace. When you arrive summon the Lord of the North and alert the palace that I return.” As Sesshoumaru watched Ah-Un take to the sky westward with his wards Inuyasha stood beside him and they took a deep breath as they both gazed at the woman in his arms.
*Kagome’s Vision*
Kagome was running in fear. On all sides she was surrounded by a empty void and it seemed to reach on endlessly. She could sense something behind her and no matter how hard she willed her legs it seemed that they would refuse to go faster. In a fit of panic and frustration she whirled around to face her pursuer.
“Who are you? What do you want from me!” She screamed.
She stood still for a moment listening and looking around for the source of her fear. She could feel goose bumps rise on her skin and slowly turned around. There staring at her eye to eye was a beautiful white tiger with a thin scar over its right eye. The twinkling blue eyes seemed to mesmerize her and, she felt her fear dissipate. Without thinking she raised her hand and began to caress the beautiful creature.
“Why do I feel like I know you,” she whispered to the tiger as he started to purr from her touch. She had never even been this close to a tiger before but its eyes seemed so oddly familiar.
“Kagome…”
A warm voice reverberated around her and she took a step away from the huge cat. She thought she was losing her mind, there was no one here but her and this magnificent animal.
“Don’t be afraid my child.”
Kagome cocked her head to the side and studied the tiger. “Who are you, what’s going on?”
“My dear you are a part of a great destiny. It is time to take your rightful place among the Deities of Heaven.”
Kagome stood shock still as the tiger spoke to her. “This is a dream, this can’t be real. I’m just a woman.”
The tiger growled softly and shook his head. “No, you are more than a mere woman. You have a destiny. You were placed on this earth to destroy a great evil that would plague mankind.”
“Why me,” she whispered. “I am no warrior.”
The tiger fell silent as he studied her and lashed his thick tail. Then from behind him materialized two orbs of light, one silver and one gold. “You have two protectors. They will be the ones to complete you and make you whole again.” If the feline could smile he would have grinned at the stunned woman who reached out to touch the glowing orbs.
“I know them,” she said softly.
“Yes, and you know me. The tiger padded up to her and touched his forehead against hers. “You must come into your own. Not only for your happiness but, for the fate of the world.”
Kagome instinctively reached out and wrapped her arms around the great beast’s neck and gave a tearful sob when he and the orbs began to disappear.
“Don’t sorrow little one. It is time for you to awake and become the Herald of Heaven and Earth.”
*End Vision*
“Don’t leave me!” Kagome screamed as she sat up with a start and looked around wildly. When she saw that she was in the middle of a huge bedroom she grew frightened. Suddenly she realized that she was enclosed in someone’s tight embrace and she looked up to see a familiar loving smile.
“Sesshoumaru,” she whispered.
The Taiyoukai stroked her hair and began to softly hum, calming her gentle weeping. “Hush now,” he said, his breath tickling her ear.
“But he was here, I saw him. He left me again,” she cried.
Just at that moment the bedroom doors flew open and Kagome saw Inuyasha enter. She smiled happily at his presence but then moments later another demon strode in behind him.
Sesshoumaru felt Kagome pull from his arms and he watched as she walked past Inuyasha and to Kubaksuru as if in a trance. She stared up at the incredibly tall demon and blue met blue as they gazed into each other’s eyes. Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru gasped in shock as she suddenly threw her arms around the Northern Lord and they heard the tiger make a strangled sound in his throat when he swept the young woman up into his arms.
A tear coursed down Kagome’s cheek as she tenderly raised a trembling hand to caress the scar that lay on Kubaksuru’s face. “Father, you returned to me…”
