Chap 16. What Did He Eat?
Kagome woke up the next morning alone in her bed; she had enjoyed a long and peaceful sleep. Fortunately, it was Saturday, so she had plenty of time to stay in bed and be lazy. Perhaps she would call Sango later to hang around Jak’s home and tell them all about the party. And Sesshomaru. She blushed. She sighed. How could someone be so sweet? And passionate? Both at the same time? She brought her hands to her chest. Her cloth clad chest, and she frowned, scolding herself.
Of course she was dressed! It was Sesshomaru, the stoic and proud demon she was thinking about! He always did the right thing!
She whined, wishing he hadn’t been such a gentleman for once. She cursed her luck, why was it that the guys she didn’t like behaved like hentai and the ones she liked ignored her?
She straightened herself. Where did that come from? She shook her head. She wasn’t sounding like herself; since when had she become such a hentai?
She decided she better take a shower to dispel such thoughts from her mind.

Jaken left the kitchen to fetch the milk and the newspaper brought daily to the manor. He was startled when he heard some noise behind him and turned around in a jump. He straightened up when he saw he was all alone and began to walk to the kitchen again to make breakfast. It was a beautiful Saturday morning, and the inhabitants of the house would soon be up and ready to spend the day elsewhere; he was sure of that. At least Shoja-sama and Toga-sama hadn’t changed their habits in decades, and Sesshomaru used to be an early bird.
There was that sound again. Jaken hesitated were he stood, trying to uncover the source of that noise. He frowned. If his hearing was not faltering, which he doubted as he wasn’t that old, the noise came from the dojo. Someone was probably training. More than likely it was his master, Sesshomaru-sama. His eyes twinkled in admiration. His Sesshomaru-sama was the strongest amongst the strongest of youkai. He was not only powerful, but he moved smoothly and regally even when he fought, always taking the amount of movements and effort required to strike his opponent, never overdoing, never wasting energy needlessly. How he loved seeing him spar!
He reached the dojo just in time to see Sesshomaru doing his last exercise and sighed in disappointment. He had been late to see his admired Sesshomaru-sama training, but he could see something was bothering his master by the way he had brought his claw to his face, his head bent down in defeat.
What could be bothering his lord? Did something happen at the party? He clenched his hand into a fist. He always had kissed the floor his master walked on and he hated to see his Sesshomaru-sama so defeated. He wanted to do something for him.
“What is it Jaken?”
His master’s voice startled him, and he promptly bowed.
“Good morning, Sesshomaru-sama. I just came to see if you had finished training; I’m about to make breakfast”
“Hn.” Sesshomaru turned his head to look at him. “Don’t bother me with such nonsense. Besides, I’m not staying for breakfast; I might be out all day. I’ll be with my intended.”
Jaken bowed deeply. “Yes, Sesshomaru-sama, please excuse this filthy toad and his insolence.”
Sesshomaru left the dojo without sparing another glance at Jaken. He had spent the night, after he had left Kagome, in the dojo doing several exercises. He couldn’t understand why his inu reacted so strongly to the girl, but that had to stop. She was human, and it would not be well looked upon if he were to follow his inu’s instincts and mate the girl. Kagura was a much better option, that is, if she had her youkai instincts under control. Wind youkai needed freedom as much as the air they breathed, and inu youkai were dominant by nature. He needed to get to know her better, so he was in for a very long relationship before the mating even took place. Inu youkai mated for life, thus he had to be sure she would be faithful as well.
He was soon ready to leave. He had previously called Kagura to make sure she would agree to see him. She had been a bit cold when he talked to her on the phone, but that was to be expected. He would make sure that by the end of the day she had forgiven him.

Kagome was soon ready to go. She had called Sango and Jak before she entered the shower, and they had agreed to come and pick her up and then go to their favourite cafe. She trotted down the stairs; her emotions so overwhelming, she was so excited to tell Sango all about last night she couldn’t contain her mirth.
She arrived at the main hall and was about to grab her purse when a movement to her side caught her attention. She raised her head and blushed. Her lips tingled as memories of the previous night flooded her mind. Sesshomaru was there, in front of her. Her throat went dry, but she managed to speak, albeit, rather hoarsely.
“Good morning, Sesshomaru.” The man just nodded. She frowned. Where had the sweet man from last night gone? “Sesshomaru?” He looked at the ningen before him and had to force himself not to flinch at the sight of her hurtful look. He merely turned around without sparing her another glance and left. Some instants later, the sound of a roaring car pulled Kagome from her stupor. What had just happened here?
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
“So, let me hear it again to make sure I got it right.” Jakotsu asked his long time friend. The three of them were comfortably sitting at a table in their favourite cafeteria. Jakotsu and Sango were leaning on the table, so as to be as close as possible to Kagome’s mouth and miss nothing of what had happened last night.
“Are you telling me that your ex-boss showed up at the party and tried to kidnap you?” His friend nodded. “The same bastard that tried to rape you when he was your employer?” Kagome nodded again.
Sango elbowed him on his ribcage, a frown marring her beautiful face. “That is not the point here!”
Two pair of eyes looked at her incredulously. Jak managed a short and expressive “Huh?”
Sango looked at them both with exasperation. What was she talking about? Hadn’t they figured out already? She huffed; did she have to explain everything?
“The point here is the reaction of the Taisho men, and one in particular.”
Kagome looked at Sango with a strange look in her eyes; Jakotsu blinked twice.
“What am I missing, girls?”
Kagome looked elsewhere; suddenly the floor seemed very interesting.
“Aren’t you going to tell us what happened last night?” Sango began to worry.
Kagome sighed and looked at her friends. She would tell them all right; perhaps they could tell her what they thought.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Sesshomaru parked his car by a nice jewellery shop; he knew how to make amends with Kagura, and she would surely appreciate some fine jewellery. All women did. Diamonds would make him fall on her good graces again, and perhaps the bunch of roses he had already sent to Kagura’s would make her more perceptive and willing to accept his apologies, but first he needed some coffee; he hadn’t slept a bit since last night.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Sango hit the table with her fist, startling everyone.
“That guy is bipolar! There is no way a straight guy would act so like a knight in shining armour, and then turn you down in a matter of hours. Unless he isn’t straight and hasn’t come out of the closet yet...”
Kagome looked at Sango as if she had grown a second head until a sigh so loud got her out of her stupor. Her eyes went from a fuming Sango to a dreamy Jakotsu. The man held his head on his hand, his elbow resting on the table. “If he needs any help... I could show him the way out.”
He felt a sudden pain on his ribcage and bent over holding his torso with his arms as a deafening pain shot through his insides.
“Come on! You are overreacting Jak! I didn’t hit you that hard!” Sango chastised him. He sent her the hardest glare he was capable of due to the circumstances and with a strained voice managed to speak.
“What was that for!?”
“Oh yes! Look who’s there!” Both girls looked where she was pointing and gasped in unison.
“Sesshomaru!”
“Didn’t he just get into Maxine’s!” Jak elbowed Kagome. “Someone left an impression!” Sango and Jak looked at each other with bright smiles and shining eyes, and with excited laughs, stood up and crossed the street towards where Sesshomaru had disappeared.
In a more reserved manner, Kagome soon followed her crazy friends while shaking her head and muttering, “Children.” to herself.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
“What exactly are you looking for, Sesshomaru-sama?” Sesshomaru looked at the water youkai in front of him. They had known each other for centuries; but over the past years, his skills as a spy were not required and the youkai had learned to live amongst humans. A century ago, he found out that his mate, another water youkai, was very skilled in jewellery as she was very creative, so they opened a jewellery shop. Their creations were so original and beautiful that soon the business flourished and there was not a member of the high society, be it human or youkai, that didn’t have an original Maxine’s amongst their jewellery collections.
“Is it an engagement ring, sir? I’m glad to hear that you are engaged to...” The lord cut his words with a wave of his hand.
“Bullshit!” Maxine looked at his long time friend; he seemed quite bothered by something. “I have no fiancée as of yet. I merely want to bring a present to my intended.”
The water youkai sighed, it looked like his former lord hadn’t changed a bit, and it was still hard for him to deal with his emotions. “Perhaps you are looking for a necklace; we have really nice ones here.” He looked at Sesshomaru. Ok, so that necklace was a bad idea. “Or we have really nice bracelets here, my wife just came up with this wonderful design, it is very fine, made of brilliants and white gold, but it fits perfectly to the female’s wrist. Let me show you, I’m sure you will like them. Some of the designs are thin and some are wider. I’ll show them all, and you decide which one you like the best.”
Sesshomaru exhaled, Kagura better appreciate his effort because he had never bothered so much for a female before.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
“Looks like the ice prince is buying some fine jewellery.” Sango pinched her friend’s arm, earning her a squeal from her friend.
“That is just not fair!” Jakotsu pouted. “Why wasn’t I born a woman? You have the nicest clothes and jewellery! At the parties, you get to wear nice fancy dresses while we get to look like penguins, and what about the make up? This is so unfair!” He ended his ranting with his arms crossed around his chest.
“Look, he is looking at bracelets now!” Sango punched her abused friend’s arm earning her a glare.
“Who will that be for?” The moment those words came from Jakotsu’s mouth him and Sango both looked at Kagome. She frowned and replied.
“Hey, don’t look at me! I already told he was different this morning! It is not for me!”
“What if he realised what a brute he was?” Sango mused.
“What if he wanted to court you properly, and he despised the way he had treated you?” Jakotsu always loved fairy tales with happy endings. Kagome just rolled her eyes.
There was no way Sesshomaru was buying her something. He had been so loving and passionate and caring last night, so different from the man in the morning, but at the same time those thoughts flooded her mind, a little voice kept telling her that it was not so impossible that the moment they had shared last night had been genuine. As those thoughts entered her mind, a small smile showed on her face.
And to the ones that are expecting Kagura to do something bad...
