Chapter 16

Together At Last



Kagome stared at the dead miko in front of her. She could not believe that she carried Sesshoumaru’s pups. That she was going to be the mother of not one but TWO children. She opened her mouth to say something, nothing came out. She took a steadying breath and tried again.

“I, I a-am carrying twins? As in Plural! Does Sesshoumaru know? I mean how do you know if we just mated last night…”

“Kagome, I know things that are yet to come and I need to tell you about the dangers of carrying Youkai pups that will have Holy Powers. You and Sesshoumaru are in for a lot of trouble… First the carrying; At times you will need Sesshoumaru there to help you calm them. At others he will upset them and they will try to purify him. In order to stop them you must put a barrier around your womb to keep their powers inside. You need to make sure that he understands.” Midoriko paused peering at the young miko looking for a reaction.

“So our kids will try to kill him before they are even born?”

“Yes my little one. However the closer you come to delivering them the more they will want their father near. Growing up will be normal… they will slowly age as most Youkai do, however when they hit the age of 21 they will freeze in appearance. They will grow no older.”

“So my pups will forever be 21? Wow. I don’t think I would be able to get used to that.”

“Oh they will get older they just won’t show in appearance.” Midoriko told the young woman with laughter showing in her eyes.

Kagome could tell she looked like a fish out of water. She tries to wrap her mind around all the weird things that had been happening. Her life just kept becoming more complicated. She can see in her mind’s eye how Sesshoumaru first appeared to her before all of this started. He had not been himself. Although he had insulted her manner of dress, but not until after he kissed her. Usually he would jump right in with the insults. Then not killing her for dousing him with water, which still brought a smile to her face. Seeing the oh so mighty Sesshoumaru soaked with water sitting next to his subdued half-brother. At this thought Kagome lets out a light giggle. Not noticing the way Midoriko looked at her worriedly. Then Sesshy giving her his deceased mother’s betrothal Kimono, although it was a tradition, it could have back fired. How he stood up for her against Ciana, and later killed her. All of it seemed to be rushed.

Then she thought back to when her day dreams about him had actually started. Unlike most who would believe it had started recently Kagome had been hiding the truth. Whenever she would get that far off look in her eyes everyone would assume she was thinking of InuYasha. At first she had been but by the third encounter with Sesshy they had changed. They didn’t get kissy until recently. She wondered when she had first gotten his attention. Was it when he saved her from the poison master in the band of seven? Sooner? Later? Her mind was just going in circles on that one. In fact it was kinda making her sick… oh wait.

‘UH-OH!’ she screamed in her mind frantically looking around the cabin she was in. She needed to find a place to empty her stomach and FAST.

*HAHAHA This is sort of funny in a ‘you better not laugh’ kind of way!* Sasuna said in her mind.

‘Oh shut it, No one asked YOU!’

“Midoriko…” Kagome started.

“Kagome why is your face green? If you need to empty your stomach you can go outside I will be there shortly to finish telling you about bearing Youkai pups.”

Kagome nodded and scrambled to her feet. She ran stumbling to the door trying to open it as fast as she could. When she finally got outside she barely made it off the porch before the breakfast she ate that morning came right back up. She would swear forever after that that all the food she had ever eaten had made its way up that day.

Midoriko let the young Miko empty her stomach before going outside to sit on her porch. She had a bucket with a ladle of cold water next to her. When Kagome was able to walk, shakily, back to the porch she grabbed the ladle and rinsed her mouth out before taking a long drink of the cool water.





InuYasha slowly made his way up the hill to the Bone Eater’s Well where he found a feral Sesshoumaru. He stopped 10 yards away from him; waiting for the Taiyoukai to acknowledge his presence. He didn’t have to wait long.

Sesshoumaru turned red feral eyes on his half-brother. He was pissed that his mate had been taken from him. His beast kept telling him that InuYasha was behind it, but his more rational side knew the Hanyou had nothing to do with the jewel. That however did not stop his beast, “Where is she half-breed?!” He growled low.

InuYasha knew he was in trouble. He knew his brother’s beast was in charge and he knew that if he wanted to live he would have to break down.

“I-I don’t know, if Sasuna said that she would be sent to the future and the well sealed; well I won’t be able to pass through. I don’t think that she is there though. Sasuna also said that she would be sent home. Think Sesshoumaru! Where is Kagome’s home now?”

Sesshoumaru growled louder, *This whelp thinks to condescend to me!*

‘No I don’t think he is. He is simply telling us to think about where Kagome’s home is NOW!’

*With her family, in the future. That is where her home is!*

‘No that is where her home WAS!’

“I know not where her home is! You will tell me where she is whelp or else!” Sesshoumaru growled out lowly.

“Sesshoumaru her home is where her heart is. Her heart belongs to you. Where ever you are is where her home is. Sesshoumaru, Kags loves you. She wouldn’t leave you. She gave up her home in the future for you.” InuYasha stated lamely. He had hoped, at one point long ago, that Kagome would do the same for him. But he had Dahling now. And right now Kagome needed him to calm Sesshoumaru. Even if it meant…



Midoriko sat watching Kagome. ‘This is the one who will be charged with the future of all Demons and Humans alike. How can one so very young bear this burden on her shoulders?’ Midoriko gave herself a mental shake. ‘I must focus on how I am going to tell her this without revealing too much.’

Kagome gave a great sigh of relief, her throat and stomach felt much better after the cool drink. She looked sheepishly up at Midoriko and saw her waging a battle within herself. “Midoriko-sama? Are you OK?”



“Hai, Kagome, I am fine. You my child have a very important role in the way the future shall be formed. First let me tell you the prophesy then I shall translate up to now.”

The one to bring equality will not be born unto this era;

She with the future burned into her shall be sent;

She will not know but she is destined to stay;

She will love two beings but only one is hers;

There will be a choice that is not a choice and a meeting that has waited;

There will be a fight between siblings;

Of the children the One will have one will be Good the other Evil;

There is a chance to change this but only the one can;

If the Evil is not made Good the future shall remain unchanged and the one will have failed her mission;

If the evil is changed then her present will only be remembered by her.

Her family will know her but not her true self.

The One comes from a time outside of time;

Watch for the one the DaiYoukai loves upon first meeting.



Midoriko watched the younger woman as she absorbed the new information. She saw as the young woman from the future unraveled the prophesy.

“OK, I think I understand some of it. For instance I was not born in this Era so that takes care of that. Second it doesn’t mean a literal burn on me just into my mind. There are no demons and I have a feeling that Sesshoumaru would be able to live for another 500 years at least. Am I right so far?”

“So far young one. Please continue I am interested in how you interpret the rest.”



“OK, well at first I didn’t know I was going to stay, I thought I would always be able to go back after everything was taken care of. And I do love two beings. Sesshoumaru and InuYasha. You mean I was supposed to love them both and be treated like shit by Inuyasha? And only get Sesshoumaru?”



“Hai, my child it was destiny.”



“The choice that wasn’t a choice was the Jewel wish. That wasn’t really a choice. And this is the meeting that had been waiting.”



“Very good. Now then, I want to warn you; since this is happening now I can warn you of it so you know what to expect when you go back; InuYasha and Sesshoumaru are fighting. But not for the reason you believe.”



“Sesshoumaru if you don’t get your head out of your fucking ass I will be forced to remove it permanently! I really don’t want to because then Kags will KILL me!” InuYasha yelled at his elder brother.



“You stupid, weak HALF-BREED! Do you honestly believe that This Sesshoumaru is afraid of your PATHETIC threats? This Sesshoumaru will slit your throat tear off your balls and stuff them into your neck before you breathe your last.” Sesshoumaru’s beast was in control and this idiot half-breed was taunting him.

‘InuYasha how stupid can you be. I will end up killing both you and myself in such a rage. Don’t make it worse.’

*No use in talking to yourself. I will not calm down until MY MATE is with ME! KAGOME!*

“KAGOME!!!!!!!!! My mate what have you done to my mate to make her leave this time whelp?!”

“You fuckin’ idgit! I don’t know where the hell you get your information but if you honestly believe that I ‘Did’ something to your Kagome then you are more fuckin’ stupid than I thought!” InuYasha knew he should goad his brother further but on one hand there was a whole village of innocent people behind him and on the other his brother was already madder than Satan on Sunday in a church of TRUE Christians.



“You have a death wish InuYasha so I will fulfill your wish!” With that Sesshoumaru lunged at his brother with his bare hands. Not the most brilliant idea seeing as InuYasha had Tetsaiga drawn and ready for him.



Kagome listened as Midoriko told her of the fight and how it will leave her mate and his brother. It was the most horrible thing Kagome had ever had to listen to.



“The great thing about this is that one is looking for you and feral and the other who is usually feral and looking for you actually knows where you are without knowing and trying to stop your mate from killing the villagers of Edo.” Midoriko said calmly.



“How is that so great? I mean yeah it is great that InuYasha has learned how to control himself but Sesshoumaru is a powerful opponent.”



“Kagome, normally he is, but with him so enraged he will make mistakes. That is how he would defeat his enemies, by getting them angry.”



“So InuYasha will be able to defeat him without killing him like Sesshy did to him so many times. Well something did stick during those ‘training sessions.” Kagome let out a little giggle.



“Yes, so you can be mad at both of them for fighting when you get back. Sesshoumaru for being stupid and not listening to reason and InuYasha for picking on him about being an ‘Idgit’.” Midoriko smiled kindly. “Now back to the issues at hand. What else did you get from the prophesy my young one?”



Kagome frowned, “Well the fight is happening right now. And, oh no, please don’t tell me that one of my children will be bad. What would cause this? How can I change it and when will I know that the change is starting?” Kagome felt her stomach start roiling again. Clutching it she runs back to her outlet spot.



Midoriko watches her and shakes her head. This one is smarter than the gods thought. She will be able to ensure the future is changed. Looking off into the distance the elder Miko sighs and sends a prayer to all the Kami she could think of.



Kagome walks back to the porch and rinses her mouth out. When she is done she looks at Midoriko expecting an answer.



“I am not allowed to reveal more about the prophesy, child. But I do believe that you are smarter and stronger than the Kami ever imagined.” Midoriko whispered. “However it is time you go back and tear the two idgits apart.” With that Midoriko stood and walked into her house bidding Kagome to leave.



Kagome opens her eyes and sees Sesshoumaru go down under the pressure of InuYasha’s sword. She slowly stands and hollers “SIT BOY!” simple from habit InuYasha sits on the ground. Without the beads it doesn’t force him to but from years of dealing with it he just sat.

Kagome ran over to Sesshoumaru’s side and saw that there were no real deep cuts but she cuts a glare at her best friend. InuYasha’s ears flattened to his head.

“Kagome? I can explain!”

“There is no need I know what you were doing and before I start yelling at you both I want to say, Thank you for protecting Edo.” Kagome said softly.

InuYasha knew that would be the only time he would hear it so he took great pride in it. Then flattened his ears as she noticed that his brother had awoken. She started right in on him.



“YOU IDIOT!! The both of you are IDGITS! What is wrong with you two?! Sesshoumaru why didn’t you listen to your BROTHER? He understands me better than anyone! And InuYasha why did you keep goading Sesshoumaru into fighting?! Did you WANT to DIE?!” Kagome paused to take a deep breath and glare at the two inus. “Sesshoumaru if InuYasha hadn’t knocked you out you could have killed innocents! Why do I have to be stuck with the idgit! Sometimes I think InuYasha is smarter than you! You don’t even start grinning!” She shot at the Hanyou when she noticed his smirk. “I said sometimes one and two it took you how many years to realize I was great!”



“Kagome, I had to keep his attention of the humans in the area. If I hadn’t he would have gone and killed them. Hell he thought I was hiding you in my hakama at one point!” InuYasha tried to defend himself.

“I don’t care if he thought I was hiding up your ASS! He was pissed enough as it was he didn’t need you getting him madder! And you mister have a lot of explaining to do!”



“I do not have an excuse for my actions Kagome. I tried to reason with my beast. He would not listen to me any more than he did InuYasha.”



“And you pride yourself on your self control! Next time do not, I repeat DO NOT say you have more control than InuYasha because today would have proven you WRONG!” Kagome yelled. As she opened her mouth to say something else she abruptly closed it again. Her stomach was revolting against her. She glared at her abdomen; then jumped to her feet and ran into the woods a little ways and emptied her stomach on the physical world just as she had in the spiritual.



Sesshoumaru soon caught up to her. “Kagome.” He started as he caught the slight change in her scent. His eyes widened slightly. When Kagome finished vomiting he picked her up and buried his nose into the crook of her neck and inhaled sharply. The scent was unmistakable; his mate was pregnant with his pup.



“Kagome.” He said simply as he pulled her tighter into his arms.



“Sesshoumaru there is more. A lot more I need to discuss with you.” Kagome whispered.



“Let’s go home love. Then we will talk.”

“I want to speak with everyone. Including Kaede.”

“Ok love then we will go home.”

“Um… Sesshoumaru. I am pregnant but it isn’t just one. I am carrying twins.”

Sesshoumaru nearly dropped her when he heard that she was carrying two of his pups. Then he caught her up to him and spun her around.



“Sesshy let’s go so I can tell you and everyone else the rest!”

Sesshoumaru turned around without putting Kagome down and met up with Inu on the way back to Edo Village.



Kagome looked around at everyone in Kaede’s hut. Miroku and Sango were sitting next to each other directly across from her; Shippou was sitting in Kagome’s lap sucking happily on a lollipop. Inuyasha was seated right next to Kaede and Sesshoumaru had Kagome in his lap refusing all together to let her go. Kagome grinned at them all and began to recite what Midoriko had told her of the prophecy.



“OK, so you all know that I am pregnant, I mean it is obvious with Sesshoumaru acting like this. What is more is that I am having twins. Now While I was away I met with Midoriko.” Kagome paused and looked at her friends’ shocked faces. “She told me of a prophecy that had been foretold before she was even born. And here is what it says… I can only tell you what I have deduced from hearing it…

Kagome took a deep breath. Then continued, “From what this says is that I was supposed to shatter the Jewel, I was supposed to stay here. I was to love Inuyasha but never have him. The choice was the wish on the jewel there was no choice. Any wish I had made would have sent me home. The fight you two were having was also foretold. The main issue that we must all consider is my children. I am having twins one will be good and the other if I can’t change his outlook on things will be far worse than Naraku. If I don’t succeed my time will remain unchanged, no demons alive. If I succeed I will be the only one to remember my time. However my family will know me as one of them but never know me. And apparently Sesshoumaru has loved me from the very beginning.” Kagome paused and looked down to her lap to see Shippou staring at her with big eyes.



“Kagome?” Sango whispered her voice catching slightly. She swallowed the lump that was in her throat. “What are we going to do?”



“For now we can do nothing. However I wouldn’t mind getting some sleep it has been a very long day.” Kagome yawned and Sesshoumaru stood and nodded to the others. He carried Kagome with Shippou still in her lap outside and went home with his growing family.
