Just a Little Rivalry

Chapter 16: Actions and Reactions

A/N: I know some people didn’t read any part of Chapter 15, so I am going to give you a brief overview of important interactions and where everybody is at so that no one is confused. (Danny Girl and other readers that didn’t want to read the chapter, I am doing this for you so you don’t have to go back through and try to pick around the scene. I put up the warning so I wouldn’t spring something that was disturbing on someone who couldn’t read something like that. No hard feelings? Don’t worry; she will get vindicated in the end.)

There is a really nice lemon, I think, at the beginning though. (The rape part is down in the story.) Anyway. The day starts out sweetly; Inu Yasha and Kagome make love in the shower before getting ready to go to school. Kags and Sango are nearly late for class. Afternoon class was canceled. Kags decides to go for a jog by herself before she and Sango go to the mall to shop. She is abducted (obviously… and this is where the scene is). Inu Yasha, Koga and Sesshomaru were looking together when Sesshomaru gets a call from Naraku (ps. Naraku and Muso were the only participants in the near rape. Onigumo was not there) telling him where to find Kagome. (Well, not really, they sniff her out.) Sesshomaru is the one to reach her the first; he hands her to Inu Yasha whose inner demon is coming out and trying to sooth her. They go back to the house and summon a doctor. Koga, Sango, Miroku and family members are pacing around the living room while Inu Yasha and Sesshomaru are in the bedroom with Kagome, who is laying on the bed curled up into a little ball and staring out into space.

Now, on with the show. We are picking up where I left off.

Koga answered the door when the bell was sounded after being alerted by the security guard that the doctor was on his way up to the house. He growled a little when he saw the doctor.

“Come this way, but let me into the room first. His youkai is out and you don’t want to upset it,” he spoke bluntly and sternly. ‘Why did they have to send a fucking male doctor? This is not going to be easy. Inu Yasha won’t want another male to touch her. I’m shocked he has let me near her and Sesshomaru has actually touched her. When we get our hands on those fucking bastards…’ his thoughts trailed off as he put a hand forward and began to turn the knob.

He put a restraining hand out behind him to make sure the doctor knew not to move forward until he was told to. He stepped into the softly lit room and looked at Sesshomaru before addressing Inu Yasha.

“The doctor is here. Kagome needs to be checked over,” he said this softly but sternly as he walked up to the red-eyed hanyou. He used his extreme speed to his advantage and grasped him from behind holding him back as he nodded toward Sesshomaru.

The dog demon took the hint and went to signal that the doctor could come in and had better hurry if he wanted to do this examination in one piece.

Inu Yasha was snarling and growling as the doctor went over to Kagome and squatted down in front on her, bringing his face eye level.

“I am going to make this as quick and gentle as possible. I am also going to be the one to take your statement to hand it over to the police.” He moved and pulled his black doctor’s bag up onto the bed and pulled out a camera to begin taking pictures of the bruising and the little knick to the side of her eye. He took swabs from different areas of her body and then began to apply some ointments and creams to relieve some of the tenderness and pain. He gave a prescription and the first dose of the morning after pill just for safe measure even though there was no penetration.

“I would also advise for you to come in and get tested for STD’s and talk to a counselor. Right now, you should get some sleep.”

He turned to a sweating Koga and a very upset Inu Yasha and said, “Make sure he takes care of her gently. She may have nightmares. If they are a big problem, call this doctor. I can inform him discreetly so there won’t be any more awkward questioning. Here is his card and my own as well as one of a good friend of mine who specializes with cases like this.” He handed the cards to Sesshomaru and left quickly. He was out the door and in his car, leaving the property faster than any of the demons expected. He apparently knew what was about to happen.

Koga waiting a few tense snarling filled seconds before he let of Inu Yasha. The hanyou ran over to his mate and picked her up so he could set her in his lap. He leaned over and began to softly growl and whine until she snuggled down into the beginnings of sweet, oblivious sleep. Inu Yasha continued his soothing rumblings until his beast put her down and glared at Sesshomaru. It then turned to Koga and said in a very deep, rough voice, “You, come with me now.”

Koga followed Inu Yasha out after looking at Sesshomaru and then back at Kagome in a look that made it clear who should watch him. Sesshomaru’s eyes narrowed before he shifted the chair nearest the bed and kept a silent vigil over the sleeping mate of his younger brother.

The occupants of the living room saw the two walk past and to the door, leaving. Everyone already knew exactly what that couple were up to. They kept their silence until the night gave way to the early morning with the blacks, reds and oranges. One by one, they made their way to a bed to lay down in a sleepless trance during their wait.

Kagome’s mom was the only one to leave the residence, as she was unable to hold her daughter. She felt the need to hold one of her children and protect it. The irrational guilt was too much for her to just wait and wait until insanity drove her to act out. She made it home to find Souta sitting on the couch with Kohaku, both asleep in a heap, and Sango’s father who was still wide awake and drinking some coffee. She took the seat next to him and began to cry silently on his shoulder.


~*~ Inu Yasha and Koga ~*~


Inu Yasha started at the college, sniffing out the scent of those who had hurt his mate. He drug Koga around looking but turning up nothing but dead ends.

He did find a basement of an old abandoned house that had definitely seen better days that housed the scents he was looking for. The scent of his mate and her fear and blood lingered in the air like a teaser that only served to rile him up more.

Koga’s eyes began to redden as smelt the same thing as Inu Yasha.

The two decided that the brothers were doing a disappearance act, one that they were not going to get away with.

Koga grabbed Inu Yasha and drug him into his car as he headed back toward their hometown. For idiots, those brothers were really smart about not getting their asses hurt.


~*~ Sesshomaru and Kagome ~*~


Sesshomaru watched the young woman as she began to wake up, tears flowing from her eyes. She shifted around and turned those eyes onto him. Giving him a look sad look that one would give to a hero who was too late.

Sesshomaru was pulled to her by the wet tracks that were drying down her face.

He stood up and was sitting on the bed with her pushed up to him before he had even registered moving.

He began to make soothing hushing sounds as her sobs started up. She was now interacting and coming to grips with what had befallen her. This crying, he knew, was natural and a good sign at that moment. His hand began to stroke up and down her back as he started to make rocking motions.

After some moments, the sobbing quieted and quietness reigned. Kagome shifted some in his arms to wrap hers around his middle. She took in his scent that was so like her mate’s but so different. They both smelled of outside after it had just finished raining, but Inu Yasha had a more woodsy smell whereas Sesshomaru’s was cleaner to her senses.

While she was taking the scent in and calming to it, she began to stroke his back in a softer version of his stroking on hers.

She let out a shaky breath as she leaned back and looked into his amber and slightly reddening eyes.


~*~ Inu Yasha and Koga ~*~


They had finally made it back to just inside the city limits. The first place they anticipated not finding the brothers, or at least not the two they were looking for, at but hoped that it would turn up other places to begin searching.

They pulled over and parked down the road a bit from the Archaline residence. They used the trees that lined the road for cover as they snuck up to the house and knocked on the back door.

Onigumo answered the door, hoping it wasn’t his brothers even though they never knocked.

He looked as though he swallowed his heart when he saw the two red-eyed demons standing on his back stoop.

“I—I-I-Inu Y-Y-Y-Y-Yasha? K-K-K-Koga? W-w-w-w-what are you doing here!?”

All he received were some seriously pissed off growls as they pushed their way into the house.

“Where are they?” Inu Yasha demanded in a quiet voice that sent chills of fear down Onigumo’s back.

He stood there quaking before summoning up enough courage to give them an answer that he was sure may sign his death warrant. Even more so than if he had drunk a whole gallon of acid. “I have no clue. They left Tuesday and haven’t been home since. I’ve been here, keeping up on my work on the new program for a company.”

His response only earned him some frightening growls as they sniffed around and confirmed that the scents were indeed fading some in contrast to Onigumo’s scent in the house.

Inu Yasha walked out the door and back down to the car, but Koga snapped his fangs at the frightened resident before making his exit. This was going to be one frustrating game of hide and go seek.

Inu Yasha was letting his irritation and impatience be known by gnashing his fangs and growling at anybody who came anywhere near him.

He and Koga made it back to the car and began looking around.

“It may be easier to just walk our way around and try to sniff them out rather than ride,” Koga said, trying to work out how they were going to locate the two fugitives.

Inu Yasha’s only response was to make a swift turn and begin sniffing around. He picked a scent that he followed. It was faint, but curiously similar to that of Naraku’s. He chanced his way to the park and continued to trail the scent to a park bench. A woman was sitting back down and laughing in joy. She was watching a little girl play and run around.

Neither could process the sight with the smell.

‘What the hell????’ was running through both minds as they crouched down in the flora that surrounded the park.


~*~ Sesshomaru and Kagome ~*~


Kagome was hanging onto the demon with all her might, and he was allowing her to have her heart’s desire at that moment. She stayed cuddled up in the warm haven of his arms as she tried to forget the last hours that she had endured.

As long as she remained where she was at, she could convince herself of her safety by mentally repeating over and over that she was safe and nobody could get to her now. She was not weak or a victim. She would live.

The longer she stayed where she was at and the more she worked at convincing herself, the more it succeeded at getting ingrained within her tangled thoughts.

Her muscles began to release their tension as his soothing growls and whimpers began to work their magic. His soothing hand rubbing and kneading as he felt her relax was doing as much to calm as the sounds he was emitting.

Kagome let out a breath as she felt lips start to press against her temple and work their way down her face.
