Chapter 16: A Family Created
“S … Sesshomaru! What are you doing here?” Inu Yasha stuttered.
Kagome hit Yasha in the back of his head. “Stupid! Did I not just tell you that we are mates? It would stand to reason that he would be here with me, ne?” She said in exasperation.
“That hurt! I heard you when you said you were mated! It just didn’t occur to me that he would be here.” He whined.
Sesshomaru just stood by the door, watching them banter. *Our mate isn’t in trouble like we originally thought when we heard that baka half-brother of yours bellow. * Growled his beast. ‘Indeed. But I don’t believe that I like how close they appear to be considering last night and the comments said to her by him.’ He responded. ‘Maybe I should …’ he started when he noticed that his mate was on the move. ‘She is so graceful.’ He purred.
Kagome realized that her mate was still just standing inside the doorway. So she got up and walked towards him, her eyes twinkling with mischief. She reached him and grasped his claw in her hands, raising it to her lips to gently kiss each finger. “Well good morning my mate.” She purred. “Would you like some coffee, tea or me?”
Sesshomaru growled “You” and pulled her against his chest, claiming her lips passionately. Kagome moaned, and pressed closer to him. The both forgot about their guest still sitting at the table.
“Ahmm,” Inu Yasha cleared his throat, hearing both growl at him for interrupting them. “Look,” he started awkwardly. “Excuse ME, I don’t mean to interrupt, but this is really the last thing I need to see. I’m blinded by the horror!” He groused.
The two reluctantly pulled apart, giving each other the look of promise to continue this much later, in private.
Kagome sighed and released herself from Sesshomaru’s hold. “I’ll get you your coffee love.” She said as she walked over to the pot.
Sesshomaru watched her walk away, than turned to his half-brother. “So Yasha, what brings you here to the shrine? You going to pray for forgiveness to the Kami’s for what you have done to Kagome for these past years?” he said conversationally as he moved to take the seat next to where his mate was seated.
“I don’t know what fucking business it is of yours, asshole!” Yasha shot back. Than he held up a hand to stop the outburst he seen coming. “But it does concern your mate, so out of courtesy, and believe it or not respect, I will tell you.” He said as Kagome sat down and handed Sesshomaru his cup of black coffee.
“I came here to apologize to Kagome for my past behavior towards her.” he sighed and raked his claw agitatedly through his hair, wondering how much he should tell. ‘In for a pound…’ he thought. “I also came here with the slight hope that Kagome would take me back. But I have realized, seeing you two together, that you were meant for each other. I hope that you both will accept my apologies, and allow for me to see any pups that you may have.” He finished his eyes down cast and his heart trodden.
Kagome looked over at her mate. She wondered if he would accept Inu Yasha’s apology. ‘His words and scent are clean, showing that he isn’t trying to deceive us. He truly wishes to be a part of the family.’ She thought in wonder. ‘But will Sesshomaru accept?’
Sesshomaru was looking at his brother, seeing probably for the first time how much Inu Yasha wanted to be a part of a family. “Inu Yasha, I accept your apology. But, you will not be allowed to see our pups,” he started, feeling his mate looking at him. He noticed that Yasha’s head seemed to sink lower. ‘Baka!’ he thought affectionately.
“You will not be allowed to just visit; you will have an active role in their lives as their Uncle.” He finished, noting how Yasha’s ears and head picked up in surprise at his words. “There are a few changes that will be made though. I am the alpha of our pack. You understand what that means, ne?” he questioned.
Inu Yasha could only stare at his brother blindly. ‘I am to be a member of the pack?’ he thought incredulously. “H… Hai nii-san! I understand.” He said than stood up and moved to kneel in front of Sesshomaru, tilting his head back in a show of sublimination. “I give myself freely to my pack. I will defend and protect all in the pack for all of my days. I swear on my blood, and the blood and pride of my race. My life and my descendants belong to you and yours.” Then he lifted one of his claws to his neck, and cut himself, allowing some of his blood to run freely.
Sesshomaru reached out and wiped two of his fingers in his blood, and held it before his face. “You have sworn a blood oath to The House of the West. Never forget. Now my brother rise and walk proud.” He said, raising himself and pulling Yasha to his feet.
Kagome watched with tears in her eyes as the two brothers embraced. ‘This is how it should be.’ She sighed in contentment.
The brothers released each other. Both had similar thoughts running through their heads. ‘If it wasn’t for Kagome, they would never be part of a family.’ Sesshomaru turned and pulled Kagome to her feet, embracing her, giving her a quick fierce kiss. “Kagome, meet your brother-in-law, and pack brother.” He said proudly, turning her to face Inu Yasha. “Inu Yasha, meet your new sister-in law and pack sister.” He in turn also embraced her, minus the kiss.
“Well,” Kagome said once they had finished with the hugs. “Who is up for a good hearty breakfast?”
Both Tasio brothers turned to her in askance. “I for one am hungry. Anyone else care for some of my homemade buttermilk chocolate chip pancakes with home fries, bacon and sausage?” She asked innocently.
“Hell Yeah!” They both said at the same time. She couldn’t help but laugh at them for their enthusiastic response.
