Chapter 16
Sesshomaru lay in bed, thoughts clouding his mind. It was still morning and lying in bed was something he rarely did at this time. He, Lord of the Western Lands, a former god, was now feeling weak and powerless. His cold exterior and emotionless face had returned, now stronger then ever, but he now felt more vulnerable.
Parts of his memories of Kagome came back, but now without his beast, they seemed meaningless to him and the more he remembered, the less he wanted to know. His eyes narrowed as he heard strange sounds come from the servants’ chamber. Closing his eyes, he focused on the sounds and tried to figure out what was happening.
‘Oh… Yes… More, my love!!! Oh god… It feels so good…’. There were more groans and moans then finally a scream of delight. Sesshomaru was disgusted, ‘How can they do this in broad daylight? When I find out who it was…’. He stopped all thoughts as he heard someone whisper, ‘I love you, my koi, and I would do anything and everything for you’. He lost his stoic mask for a moment but quickly found it and shut his eyes. ‘Love… What a foolish demon… He surely will be weakened if he believes in that…’.
Mineko and Keizo waited nervously to see if their plan had had any effect on Sesshomaru. After waiting 10 minutes, they sighed in frustration, seeing as it had no effect. ‘Well, I hope your brilliant idea has a Part II, because Part I doesn’t seem to have swayed him at all’.
Mineko looked at him pointedly, ‘Keizo, Keizo, Keizo… You have surely underestimated me. I have worked as Lord Sesshomaru’s cook for as long as I can remember, and when you work for him for THAT long, you’re bound to learn a few things about his behavior. Don’t worry, there are quite a few parts to this, ‘brilliant idea’, and the chances of it working, well, I don’t know that yet, but I do know that it’s the only plan we’ve got. So, let’s get going so we can get Part II ready’.
There was a soft knock and the door, and Sesshomaru heard a familiar toad croak, ‘Lord Sesshomaru… There is a slayer, monk and tiny fox demon at the door who insist on seeing you. I tried to get the guards to remov…’. ‘That’s enough, Jaken… Bring them to my study and I will deal with this’.
‘Yes, my lord!’, he replied. Sesshomaru got out of bed and ran his slender fingers through his hair. ‘Why the hell did they have to come now…’, he growled to himself. Minutes later, the trio entered, concern and worry written all over their faces.
‘What business do you have here?’, Sesshomaru said as he glared at them. Sango quickly replied, ‘We would like to see your mate, Kagome, so would you please tell her that we are here?’. Sesshomaru stood up from his chair and began to walk to the door. ‘That’s not possible at the moment’, he merely replied before leaving the room.
Sango ran after him and asked, ‘What do you mean it’s ‘not possible at the moment’? Is she busy right now, because if she is, we can stay here and wait for…’. She heard a angry growl and a cold voice reply, ‘I said it was not possible, because I do NOT have a mate at the moment and I never have. Now remove yourselves from my presence before I have to ask my guards to remove you by force’.
With that, he disappeared, leaving Sango, Miroku, and Shippo to find their way out of the enormous castle. ‘Well… That went very well, didn’t it?’, Miroku said sarcastically. ‘And it would have been even better if you had actually contributed instead of standing there like a statue, monk’, Sango retorted.
After leaving the humans and kitsune, Sesshomaru made his way to where the guards were. The anger and frustration that he kept inside of him was driving him crazy and he needed somewhere to let it out. ‘Why the am I so… irritated? There should be no reason for this… It’s that demon… I should never had allowed myself to mate… It only weakened me and caused all this to happen…’.
All the guards turned their attention to the door that had burst open. ‘All of you… Outside. Now’.
In front of Sesshomaru, stood his army of finely trained soldiers. ‘Most of you have been with the army long enough to know that hate is the strongest emotion. In battle, you get strength by hating the enemies. The exact opposite of hate, is something called ‘love’. Does everyone understand this?’.
There was a prompt replies of ‘Yes my Lord!’. ‘Now… To give you a better example, picture this. You are in a battlefield, and you have to kill all your fellow soldiers. Would you be able to do that? No, you wouldn’t. Thus, proving my point that ‘love’ is useless and will only weaken those who are strong’.
Keizo walked forward and spoke up. ‘Lord Sesshomaru, what you have said is true, but when someone fights for love, it is stronger than hate’. The Lord narrowed his eyes. ‘So, that is what you think. Whoever believes that, stand over there with Keizo’.
There was a quiet shuffle of armor, but no one other than Keizo stood on the other side. ‘Those of you who hesitated to move, stand with him. Now’. When Sesshomaru saw all the soldiers go stand with Keizo, his face looked murderous and had all the soldiers regret moving over there.
‘Now… Let me show you, which is truly stronger… Hate or ‘Love’’. He lunged forward, prepared to take each and everyone one of them out.
An hour later, Sesshomaru stood amongst the wounded soldiers, all of which were too hurt or too tired to move. He glared at them one last time, turned and left.
‘She still loves you, Lord Sesshomaru… She always will love you, but the only way you are going to be together is if you make a move… She’s waiting for you…’, Keizo said with his remaining strength. Sesshomaru silenced him by sending a whip of light behind him. The only sounds that could be heard now, were the Lord'.
Mineko finished setting the dishes that Kagome had made, on the table and hoped that she hadn’t forgotten anything. She knew that Sesshomaru was in a foul mood and even the slightest error would set him off.
‘Mineko-san! Lord Sesshomaru is almost done battling the soldiers!’, a rabbit demon reported to her. ‘Okay! Go back to the kitchen, I’ll be there in a moment’.
Sesshomaru had smelled the food from outside of the castle. It was completely different from what he was accustomed to, but there was something about it that was familiar.
As he slid the door open, he could only stare at the feast in front of him. His entire mind held only one thought, and that was Kagome. It was the exact same feast that he had had on his birthday with Kagome. ‘Jaken. Bring the cooks up’. ‘Yes, Mi’lord!’.
As the cooks entered the room, each and every one of their faces was stamped with guilt. ‘Which one of you cooked the food?’, he asked menacingly. When no one replied, he cracked his whip of light against the ground and asked again. ‘I’m going to say this one more time. Which one of you cooked the food?’.
‘None of cooked the food, Lord Sesshomaru’, Mineko said quietly. ‘Hmph. If it wasn’t any of you, then who was it?’. ‘It was Kagome-sama…’. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes, ‘And so she did all this without any of you knowing this?’.
‘You know what? Sesshomaru, I’ve been in this castle since you were a child, and I know that you have never been so concerned about your food. So, why don’t you just eat it, and forget about it, just like every other meal? Just because Kagome-sama made it, you have to make such a big deal out of it? Do you still have feelings for her?’.
‘You… Will shut your mouth right now… Guards! Remove them from my site!’, Sesshomaru barked. Mineko knew that she had touched a nerve and time was all it took to take him over the edge. Just as she got dragged out, she said, ‘Once you take your pride and ego out of yourself, you will feel love…’.
When everyone was gone, Sesshomaru sat down and stared at the food. He could smell Kagome’s scent lingering in the food, as well in the dining room… Haunting him… ‘I will not be weakened… Ever…’.
Kouga could smell the scent of fresh blood nearby. Although it just be some demons fighting, the wolf demon could smell something strangely like… Kagome.
She was lying in the grass, naked as the day she was born. Her pale skin was covered with deep cuts, bites and bruises. Kouga immediately ran to her side, hoping that she was still alive. ‘Kagome! Kagome…’, he called out, gently shaking her. After hearing no response, he gently picked her up and ran as quickly as he could back to his den. Kouga controlled his anger the best he could, but all he could think of was getting Kagome better and tearing Inuyasha apart.
Inuyasha growled, frustrated as hell. He had been searching for 3 solid days and found no trace of Kagome. He knew that Kagome must have been hiding on Sesshomaru’s grounds, otherwise he would’ve found her ages ago. Despite those thoughts, he wasn’t ready to give up.
Suddenly, there was a rustle in the bushes, then silence. Inuyasha put his hand on Tetsaiga and slowly moved towards the bushes. He saw a flash of white before he felt sharp claws digging into his neck. Inuyasha looked up to see Sesshomaru, eyes glowing red and fangs bared.
‘I’m going to kill you for sure now, you useless half demon… You’re a disgrace to the family…’. Just as he was about to end Inuyasha’s life, he stopped, and sniffed the air. He sensed that someone had taken Kagome and was traveling further away from him with each passing second.
He glared at Inuyasha one last time, and growled, ‘I’m going to spare you this time, but you just wait…’. Sesshomaru disappeared just as quickly as he had appeared, into the woods. Not wasting a moments’ time, he followed Sesshomaru, knowing that he would probably take him right to Kagome.
