Chapter Three, Part V -

Shippou was speechless. Inuyasha dared to give Sesshomaru orders and threaten him at the same time for his sake. His vision blurred with unshed tears as he realized Inuyasha really cared for him.

"Now do you see? My brother has nothing but love for you, brat. He never would have spoiled you the way he had if he didn't. Your blaming him for his mate's death is unfair and unfounded. Don't you realize by now that he is the more hurt by the two of you with that?"

Shippou was crying in earnest now, having been faced with the truth brutally. He now knew he had to stop.

"You and I will come to an understanding or I will take you away from here and leave you to starve to death where no one will help you. You will stop your atrocious behavior towards your 'father' from now on, do you understand me?"

Shippou nodded vigorously, wanting to return to Inuyasha.

"You are his heir. Whether you are truly his child or not does not matter for he has claimed you for his own. Give him the respect and the gratitude that he deserves from you. You owe him more than that,"

"I will,"

Shippou looked Sesshomaru in the eyes as he fervently made his promise. He must have finally convinced him of his sincerity because he nodded once and they were landing below before Shippou knew it. The moment he could leap to Inuyasha's arms, he launched himself to the open arms waiting for him. He cried endlessly as he told his 'father' how sorry he was for everything and that he was going to be the best 'son' to his 'father' from then on. Inuyasha still didn't know what happened between his brother and the runt, but he was glad and he was thankful that Shippou finally came to his senses.

Everything changed completely from that day forward. Shippou started calling him 'otosan' or 'chichi-ue' when his brother was present. He wasn't comfortable with that so he secretly told Shippou he could call him 'oyaji' instead when Sesshomaru wasn 't with them. He still did so, to this day.

They bonded like never before, and had hundred of years to strengthen that bond. Inuyasha was supportive of Shippou in everything and encouraged him a lot like a real father would. Shippou now knew never to take his 'father's' presence in his life for granted, as well as his 'uncle'. He grudgingly respected (and secretly feared) the great taiyoukai that was Sesshomaru. If not for him, he never would've realized his mistakes and he would always be grateful for that. He also showed him nothing but kindness, and he liked Rin most of all.

His loyalty to his 'family' was absolute, and he also devoted most of his time to their cause. He used his cunning to glean information from anywhere he can have it. He was shrewd to a fault as well as artistic. His father thought he was too smart for his own good. How he wished his father was right.

He was currently assigned the task of looking out for his mother's kid brother while she was away. So he enrolled at the same university Higurashi, Souta attended. He was still two years the senior, but he managed to be friends with him. He happened to like his mother's brother genuinely. They shared a lot of common interests, especially art. And video games.

His friend was nowhere to be found for nearly a week now, and just when he decided to visit their house, Souta finally reappeared. When he asked him as to why he was absent, Souta excitedly told him it was because he was hanging out with his sister who came back from the States. When Shippou recovered from the shock, he knew what he had to do.

"I've gotta tell the old man,"
