Turning back to where Bankotsu was waiting silently in his cell, Jakotsu smirked before reaching over and sliding his food into the slot provided for such a moment. Without a word, Bankotsu moved to take it, only to find he refused to release the tray it was on. Making sure the deputy was too busy looking at his ass to pay much attention to what he was doing, Jakotsu leaned closer and explained, “Katherine had no choice. The bastard realized something was wrong and threatened to kill her.”

After having already figured out who it had to have been to warn his target and having decided not to hold it against her, Bankotsu just shook his head before changing the subject. “Underneath the wardrobe in my room is a loose floor board and I hid my coin purse there. You can have it since it won't do me any good,” Bankotsu explained before noticing the confused expression on Jakotsu's face. “I am to hang at dawn.”

Before he had the chance to even think of a way to respond to that, let alone actually say something constructive to him, Jakotsu was interrupted by the sound of the deputy making his way over to them. Banging on the bars, startling both of them, he growled, “Leave the lady alone, scum. Come Miss, let a real gentleman escort you out,” he offered as he took him by the shoulder and began leading him back outside.

Stopping in the doorway, Jakotsu turned back with an inviting smile and though he was looking at the deputy, who was completely sure he was who was being spoken to, Jakotsu was actually speaking to Bankotsu when he informed them, “I'll be back to visit ya later.” Heading back out into the night, a plan for the future already beginning to form in his mind, Jakotsu found himself humming; strangely in a good mood.

He knew how odd, and perhaps even how rude, that might seem given Bankotsu's current predicament and impending death, but he also knew that had nothing to do with why he was humming. For the first time in years, his life actually had the chance to move forward instead of being stuck on replay where he was. The more Jakotsu thought about it, the more he was convinced that this was just the situation he had been waiting for to save him from this town.

And right now, his first step was to retrieve a certain bag of coins along with anything else that might have been left in the room and was valuable.
