I do not own InuYasha, nor make money from this story.
And the Race Is On!
Disclaimer: Nope, still not mine, and I still don’t make any money from this. Don’t sue me, please, for my fun.
Chapter 15: And The Race Is On!
Kagome had ran until she had lost the need to run. She was walking near a beach. Just where the hell was she?
She took in a deep breath and looked around. Where were Koga, Sesshomaru and Inu Yasha? She sat down on a soft patch of grass and waited. She waited until the sun went down, still wondering why they hadn’t showed up.
She took a deep breath again and realized that she couldn’t smell her own scent.
The thought came to her. ‘I’m supposed to have new abilities now that I am becoming a demon, aren’t I?’
She relaxed herself, and slowly her scent came back.
‘Hmmm… I guess whenever I feel scared my scent masks itself. Wow, I really made it far.’ She stood up and turned around, making her way back from the way she came.
But, she hadn’t been paying attention to where she was running. How in the hell does she figure out which way she came from? She can’t even pick up her mate’s scent nor Inu Yasha’s.
She sighed and did her best to keep herself calm. They would smell her and come.

Inu Yasha was getting frustrated. He had come this far and was even challenging Koga and Sesshomaru for her, but she was gone.
He looked over to his rivals. They needed to work this out. Kagome had run because she felt scared. He knew that. He understood her need to flee. But, he also felt hurt that she had fled from him. She never ran away from him except for when they first met, and he had been trying to kill her for the jewel and even slightly resembling Kikyo.
He noticed Koga looking over at Sesshomaru.
It was dusk. The sun was going down, and it would soon be night. They kept putting their noses to the wind toward the South where she had run to. Just how far had she ran?
“Koga, just what would we be working out?” He had to know what he was thinking.
“I don’t know. I do know that she didn’t like the fact that you were going to challenge us over her. She doesn’t want to see a fight.”
Koga looked up to Sesshomaru and noticed that he was now speeding up toward the South. Had he caught something?

Kagome walked until she began to feel tired. She looked up at a nice, leafy green tree and decided that that would be the perfect place to relax for a little while. Besides, her mom had taught her to stay still if she got lost or separated. Maybe that would be wise for now, at least until she decided what to do next.
She jumped up and landed smoothly and softly onto a strong looking branch and reclined, looking up at the sky. The colors were darkening to the lovely black/purple color, and the stars were showing up now.
She sighed and continued to look up until her eyes drifted shut.
~*~*~
Sesshomaru had picked up a faint whiff of her scent on the wind. Wherever she was, she was relaxed and being lulled into sleep.
He smiled briefly to himself when he realized that she had nearly made it to the beach. He could smell some of the salt that was in the ocean.
He looked down and realized that he was leaving the other two males behind, but he needed to reach her.
They would follow his scent and eventually pick up Kagome’s.
He sped up to his fastest and touched down on the ground to see his little mate sleeping peacefully.
‘She can hide her scent when she is scared. How interesting. She was also very fast.’
He felt reassured that her new abilities would be great as soon as she learned to use them and harness them. It just wouldn’t do to have her running away like this every time they had a fight or a challenge came along.
He smelled Koga and Inu Yasha making their way towards him. They looked up at the tree that Kagome was sleeping in before moving toward him.
Koga looked straight into his eyes and said, “We need to talk.”
He merely nodded that that statement.
Inu Yasha decided that he would make his position clear right then and there. “I still have a claim on her and will not give her up. I love her still, and she loved me. I was her protector, and she was my friend. My first friend.”
Sesshomaru’s eyes narrowed at that. He didn’t want to share her with anyone else. He and Koga already had to share her with each other. That human woman child had the oddest effect on male youkai. Never had one caused such uproar. The fact that she was a miko only made it that much more odd. She did make a spectacular demon. But, none knew that she would transform after being marked.
The three talked throughout the night but made almost no progress. They still had the problem of the challenge and of Kagome’s upset at this. Sesshomaru and Koga knew she felt conflicting feeling about him being back. She had begun to love them and receive their love and devotion in return, but she still loved Inu Yasha and was responsible that he was back.
Dawn came with his light coloring and warmth that seeped in as the light danced its way into the shadows.
Kagome began to respond to that dance and make one of her own as she awoke and stretched out her muscles, slowly and gracefully.
She glided to the ground from her branch and looked around before catching sight of the three males.
They were all sitting and relaxed, encouraging her to approach them.
She moved toward them and stopped near their triangle, unsure of what to say. Koga reached out and pulled her into his lap.
She unconsciously snuggled closer to him and looked at her other mate and then to Inu Yasha.
“What are we going to do? Please tell me that you will not fight over me.” Her eyes looked deep into Inu Yasha’s, conveying her hopes to him silently.
Sesshomaru was the one to speak after a moment of awkward silence. He had been thinking of everything that he knew about multiple members of a pack mating a female. This wasn’t that uncommon, but for a new mate to enter once the first mating had occurred was rare. It usually involved tests that made the new mate prove their worthiness.
And, their pack was definitely short of females. The whole wolf clan was short of females, and Sesshomaru didn’t have any other than his pup, Rin, that was pack.
The most common test for a male was a fight to prove that he could protect the female. The problem with that was that Kagome didn’t want them to fight. He and Koga already knew that in this form, Inu Yasha was more than strong enough to defeat them, but they still had to hold the fight.
They needed to get her permission first, and he and Koga had to decide whether to relinquish her or let him fight for his claim. The only honorable way, since they had acknowledged that he had a legitimate claim when they both mated her, was to allow him to have a fair fight for it against both of them.
They needed to get back to either the Western Lands or the Easter Lands. They couldn’t insult the Southern Lords by fighting there.
~*~*~
The four demons traveled back to just outside of where their new homes were being built. Sango was stunned when she saw that Miroku had indeed seen Inu Yasha.
Shippo was just as stunned. Rin, however, was just excited to see her Sesshomaru-sama and Kagome as well as Koga.
Kagome had demanded to be allowed to walk back. She allowed her miko powers to flare when Sesshomaru went to pick her up anyway. She knew that they had to fight. She had heard in her own head and knew exactly what Sesshomaru had been thinking.
She was over whelmed to once again have Inu Yasha, but she really wanted to curse herself for making that wish since she still held the jewel now. It had dulled, but she had also failed.
She had failed in her duties as the jewel’s keeper.
That thought did not sit well with her.
