Chapter 15: Explanation
“But Kagome,” Yasha whined. “I apologized. I explained why I did that stuff. Why won’t you take me back?”
Kagome shook her head. “As I said, I moved on. I found another who actually cares for me. Not what I look like or what I can do for him. He loves me for me. Something you could never do.”
She sighed and sat at the table, motioning for him to get himself a cup of coffee himself and sit, which he did, albeit slowly. When he sat she started to explain.
“Yasha, I hold you partially responsible for what has happened, same as Kikyo. But you see I also blame myself for letting it go so far. Between the two of you, you managed to erode my confidence in myself, but I allowed for that to happen. It wasn’t until recently that I have allowed me to feel confident in myself, to not believe everything that you and my cousin said as the truth. I realize that everything that the both of you said to me was not true, at first. I’m sure that you have heard people say that if you hear something often enough you start to believe it. That is what happened with me.
“See, I brushed what you were saying off at first, thinking that you were both just angry at me. But when I got to thinking I kept wondering why, why were you both so angry with me. Soon, I figured that neither of you would have been saying anything like that to me unless it was true. So I had convinced myself that what was said was true, I mean my own cousin wouldn’t say it to me if it weren’t true right?” Kagome smiled sweetly into her cup.
“Then I met the most wonderful man. He showed me that I have as much to give to him as he to me. I love him, and I am sure that he loves me in return.” She said quietly. *Well I should hope so after last night and this morning. * Crowed her beast. ‘Shut up.’ Kagome responded.
“So,” Inu Yasha said hesitantly. “Who is this guy?” ‘So I can go beat the crap right out of him!’ he thought savagely.
“It’s Sesshomaru.” Kagome said proudly.
“What?!” Yasha screamed. “You’re in love with HIM! How could you Kagome? He is only using you to get back at me!” he grabbed her hands in a fierce grip. “Don’t let him come between us Kagome.” He entreated.
Kagome looked at his hands gripping hers. *Make him let go before I do! * Growled her beast. *I am respecting your business now, because this came before me. But if he insults our mate again I WILL come out! *
Kagome pulled her hands from his grip, and stood up to get herself another cup of coffee. “Inu Yasha, I told you this, not to make you jealous or anything. I did it because I am confident in his love for me, and my love for him. You do not enter the equation. I don’t care whether or not you accept us. We are mates.” She finished.
“You’re what?!” He screamed again.
She turned sharply to him. “You will keep your voice down in my home Inu Yasha! And you will also refrain from taking that tone with me again. I am not the woman I was before. I have changed. For the better, I might add. I love and am loved in return. There is nothing that you can do to change that. And if you don’t like that, you can leave.” She said calmly as she went to sit back down at the table with her coffee.
Inu Yasha stood staring at her. ‘She never used to speak to me like that before! It was always with kind words and loving looks. Now it’s sharp words and frosty looks. She has changed.’ He thought in wonder. He sighed and went to refill his cup, than sat back down at the table.
“Do you really love him Kagome? It’s not just some infatuation?” He glanced at her, seeing her seething. “I don’t mean to offend with my question!” he said waving his arms wildly in front of him. “I just want to know that you are happy. And if you are, I will be happy for the both of you.” He finished quietly.
“Yes Yasha, I love him with every fiber of my being.” She replied honestly. “I will spend the rest of my life with him, ensuring that I make him as happy as he has made me.”
Inu Yasha digested her words. “I still don’t mean to be mean, but are you sure that he loves you back? I mean, how do you know that he didn’t decide to come after you knowing that Kikyo and I were breaking up? His mind is devious, and he can be very cruel, and I really don’t want to see you hurt Gome.” He said sincerely.
Kagome’s eyes narrowed and she glared at the hanyou in front of her. *I’m going to rip him limb from limb and serve him on a platter to our mate! * Her beast roared. ‘Wait!’ she yelled back to her beast. ‘Smell his scent. He is being honest with us. He really doesn’t want to see me hurt.’ She thought incredulously.
“If there is one thing in this world that I am absolutely certain about, it is that he cares for me. He loves me Inu Yasha. If you find that hard to believe, that is your problem, not mine. My offer of if you don’t like it you can leave is still there. Take it before you say something you are going to regret later.” She said with cold finality.
“I believe that you should listen to my mate, little brother. It could just save your worthless life.” said a cold voice from the doorway.
