Returning Forever

Chapter Fifteen

"Hey Hiei." Yusuke greeted the man as he came to sit beside him. Haven't seen you in awhile." Actually he hadn't seen him since the day he'd left Koenma's office three weeks ago. Everyone else had come to Genkai's to grieve except Hiei. "Is there something you needed?"

"Hn. No." He sat down next to him just wanting the company. In a way being close to the detective made him feel close to her. His heart clenched at the thought and his eyes stung. "Seems I am the bigger fool."

"Why do you say that?" Yusuke looked over at him.

"You were man enough to tell her how you felt. Now, she's gone and I'll never get the chance. I let my pride rule me."

"Yeah but thats you. Thats what makes you Hiei." Yusuke could see the tears threatening in the man's eyes.

"I'd do anything to have her back even if it meant I'd have to share her with you."

"Thanks I'm touched." Yusuke sighed, so would he. He just wanted to see her face again, to hear her laugh.

Kurama sat on the couch next to Kuronue, it bothered him to see the bat cry. The tears were falling silently but steady. He couldn't comfort him, he couldn't handle his own pain. It would take him a long time to get over her loss. His hand touched the locket around his neck, he'd found it in her room the day after they'd returned.

He felt his heart break even more when a sob was heard from the man beside him. He knew his partner wasn't the type to cry, he didn't like to show weakness in front of others. It showed how much the girl had meant to him.


Koenma sighed in his chair as an ogre came in. Finally everything was straightened out, it had taken forever. "Do you have the final results, it better be correct too."

"Well sir, most of it is but there is a few mistakes that need to be seen to."

Koenma looked over the final paper work, "I see. Mind telling me how this happened? There is four souls here that don't have paperwork on them. Find me their paperwork, so I can make sure they are in their proper place."

"We've tried Koenma sir, thing is there isn't any. We aren't sure how they got there."

"I see, summon Botan for me." Koenma sent him away. Another mess that he'd have to deal with. He'd sent the guys home over two months ago giving them some much needed time off. Botan appeared before him.

"You wanted to see me sir."

"Yes, I want you to accompany me to hell."

"Please sir, I know my performance hasn't been up to par but surely you can't be that harsh." She stammered.

"Calm yourself. We are going to check a few things out nothing more."

Koenma waited for the doors to open and walked through the double doors. He hated coming here, it really was too hot. Botan and him hovered over the area on her oar. He could see the souls running around, poor fools.

They searched for a few days not finding the four souls. Botan was complaining constantly about the heat. He was about to give up until he heard a voice.

"Dammit you don't speak to a lady like that."

"They aren't ladies and I'll talk to them anyway I want ugly."

"Who you calling ugly. Don't make me rip your ears off."

Botan heard it also and smiled. She directed her oar to a cliff and landed next to the four. "Why hello, Kuwabara."

"Botan! You are a sight for sore eyes." Kuwabara ran up to Koenma. "Hey punk what did I ever do to deserve being thrown down here?"

"Nothing actually. We didn't bring you here, seems the staff did." Koenma looked over at the two girls, they appeared glad to see him. His eyes landed on the fourth soul. "I know how you three got here but what about him?"

Kagome clapped her hands together, "Well, he was kind of dragged here by someone."

"I see, that is illegal by the way. Afraid you will have to come also. Let's get out of here before I melt." Koenma had Botan transport them all out.

"So where are you going to send us?" Kuwabara asked. As long as it wasn't back to that place he didn't care.

"Actually, I'm sending you all back."

"WHAT! No way, I'm not going back to that place. Come on man, I use to work for you."

"Calm down Kuwabara that's not what I meant. I'm sending you all back to the human world. I'll have to pull a few strings but it's the least I can do." Koenma looked at them he needed to explain a few things. "First of all, since your bodies were destroyed they will be reinstated. Except for the hanyou, we will make some minor adjustments. I won't send you back so you can lose control of your youkai blood. Don't give me that look, it won't be anything major. Just need to make sure you don't go postal."

"I have a question. Before I died, I was mated to Yusuke, will that still be there?" Kagome blushed at the fact.

"No. The bond was severed when you died and your soul sent to hell. He'll have to remark you. And if you want to know Sango, you aren't considered married anymore. It's till death do you part and well you died enough said. Now it will take a few days to arrange everything, please relax until then."

"Why the hell didn't you tell me you mated? What the fuck have you been doing since I've been dead?" The hanyou shouted.

"Well, if you really wanna know. Not only did I have a mate, I also had a lover on the side."
