Chapter 15: Kagome Changed

Everyone looked to the girl they knew as Kagome, and gasped. The first thing they noticed was that she had an angelic pair of wings protruding from her back, blood staining the tips as it ran down her back and onto the forest floor. The long raven hair they had become accustomed to seeing was now almost blue in appearance, as it sparkled and shimmered over her new wings.

Kagome herself was in a state of shock. She looked down to her hands and saw sharp claws protruding from what once was her normal, human fingernails. She found red stripes running across her wrists, and felt fangs in her mouth, accidentally poking her tongue on one, drawing blood. Then the blood itself she tasted was not tangy and bitter, like before when she had tasted her own blood, but sweet and spicy, like cinnamon sticks and sugar combined.

Quickly getting to her feet, she was surprised to find that she wasn’t in any pain. Her uniform top fell off of her, exposing her breasts to the world, but surprisingly, she didn’t register it. She looked down at her hands again, before looking behind her to her friends, forgetting her transformation for the moment.

Their eyes locked on her eyes first, seeing a swirling vortex of color in those iris’, before being glued to her chest, which was still exposed. She caught their gaze before blushing and then covering herself with her claws, accidentally piercing the tender flesh with the new razor sharp nails. Blood ran down her chest, and she glared, her nose now twitching angrily at her, as a nasty scent invaded her senses. She looked over and met the eyes of Naraku, who was growling at her new form.

She then could smell an even stronger scent coming from the hanyou, one being of arousal, and she almost became sick. Without another word, she growled her disapproval, before her hand went to her side, and poison started to drip, poison that was similar to Sesshoumaru’s. They both looked to her and growled their approval. Apparently, the awaking process had transferred some of their traits to her, and for that, they were very proud. She was everything they could ask for in a mate, and more. Now, even the past Sesshoumaru had no reservations about mating the once human miko.

Kagome looked to Inuyasha and she could feel her heart break in her chest once more. He seemed so alone, standing there beside Naraku. She looked to Kikyou’s still clay form and couldn’t help but pity her on some level. Sure, they were never friends, and she had betrayed them more times than Kagome had fingers or toes, but she was still human at one time. She still, at one time, could have harbored true feelings of love for Inuyasha. And there he was, completely alone, and looking as if he had lost the entire world.

Before she could think further, a gust of wind came and Naraku vanished, without a word. Somehow, they knew he wouldn’t stay around, now that Kagome was awakened. He sensed her power, and fled, living to fight his battle another day. Inuyasha then fell to his kness, his head hung in the utmost shame and despair. He looked to the Tetsusaiga, bringing the ancient sword to his hand. Kagome stepped forward, and placed a foot over the transformed fang, before leaning down and enveloping the hanyou in her gentle embrace. The sound and scent of his tears reached the rest of the group, and they all somehow could identify with his pain.

Kagome let him hold onto her, let him shed the tears that needed to be shed. He had finally understood…finally comprehended Kagome’s love for him. She would love him as family, a sister…and he would be her brother. Her family. No matter what he did, or what happened, she would always love him and forgive him. Although many in the group wanted to kill him, they held back. The miko loved him deeply, and would allow no more harm to come to him.

It didn’t matter that she was only half clothed. In her mind, Inuyasha needed her, and she would be damned if she denied him. His tears slipped down her shoulder and back, touching her new wings making them shimmer more as some mixed with her blood.

Words were not needed between the two. He knew that she had already forgiven him, and for that, he was immensely grateful.

After a few moments, his tears let up, and Kagome smiled to him, kissing his forehead gently. “Welcome back, Inuyasha.” She said, nodding to him before she was assaulted by three children who were all crying profusely.

She sent a wave of her now completely controlled energy out, calming each of the team in turn, gentling their spirits from the fierce battle. She knew that it would be touch and go for awhile. Everything seemed so complex now than it was before. She was changed. She was now a demon-miko, something completely unheard of before, but she was willing to accept it. It made her stronger now, and hopefully, their next encounter with Naraku would leave them victorious.

Somewhere, in the back of her subconscious, she could remember feeling a slightly human presence among all the souls. It was lonely, sad, and very contained, as if it hadn’t had freedom in a long while. She shook the thought away and instead suggested they make came somewhere. Naraku was now on the loose, and minus any outside help. He would be looking for followers. They didn’t have much time.

‘How has she transformed?! What the hell was that power that took my true soul from my body!?’ Naraku ranted, growling openly in his hidden castle. He glared at the mirror on his table that now showed nothing but fog. Somehow, Kagome’s power had stopped the mirror from spying on her or her group of friends. Growling loudly again, he threw up the mirror and it smashed on the floor, splintering into many small shards, one of which cut the top of his foot open. He stared at the poison of his system flowing out onto the floor before a cruel smile lit up his face.

“If I can’t get that bitch here in the past…perhaps her time would be more suited to my desires…” he said, a laugh escaping his lips. His eyes narrowed and he left his castle, letting it dissolve into nothing before heading back for the Bone Eater’s Well.

Kagome held onto Inuyasha protectively, as he finally drifted off into an easy sleep. She was now fitted with one of her shirts with two holes in the back to accommodate her wings. The blood that came from their initial appearance had long since stopped flowing, and she had gotten a basic control over her mouth as to where she could talk without piercing herself on her new fangs. Everyone looked to her curiously, and glared at the sleeping hanyou, earning a soft growl from Kagome. She wouldn’t allow them to hurt him. In the beginning, she wanted as much revenge as the next person, but in the end, she gave in once more. She would not break her promise. A promise made so long ago that she almost forgot it, until she looked upon his sad figure at that moment. ‘I will always be by your side, Inuyasha.’ She thought, smiling to herself. She would not leave him alone. She would not let Naraku just have him.

Yusuke was the first to speak, finally having enough silence. “So what do you think that bastard will do now?” he asked, a look of disgust coming to his face.

“He will look for followers. He had no one now, and will not be able to defeat all of us on his own. He will try somehow to turn the tables in his favor, now that things have changed.” Sango said, fingering Hiraikotsu gently, with Kirara in her lap.

“The taijiya is right. He will be desperate now. And that’s when he can be really dangerous. He is not a complete fool…he will most likely try to do something completely unexpected, something to get us off guard.” The past Sesshoumaru said, a growl in his voice and a gently sleeping Rin in his arm.

“Hai, Sesshoumaru-sama. We must stop him before he can do anymore damage to anyone else.” Kagome said firmly, her wings shaking slightly as she nodded her head.

“Lass, what do you think he’ll do? You seem most suited to this opponent of ours…” Jin asked, looking to her and forcing down the anger he felt towards the hanyou in her arms.

“I’m not sure…he probably won’t find much support here anymore. He’s hurt so many humans and demons alike…” her face paled as she looked up, getting everyone’s attention. She felt a gentle hand on her shoulder and looked up into Hiei’s slightly worried eyes.

“He’s going to go back to the future! He will control people that way! Or even go in to the Makai to recruit demons!” she finally said, standing up only to crash back down painfully with Inuyasha still in her arms. The hanyou awoke, fear in his eyes before his eyes landed on Kagome’s, and a gentle breath was released.

Everyone was tense, wondering what the hanyou would do. Kagome placed a gentle hand upon his cheek before saying, “Sorry. How are you feeling?” He didn’t trust himself to speak. It all still seemed so unreal to him. Kikyou gone, Kagome forgiving him for the biggest mistake he ever made in his life…it was just so unreal. He let a hand rest on her cheek, and she smiled, nodding to him. “It’s alright, Inuyasha. Everything’s okay now. Don’t worry, Onii san.”

The endearment made his eyes widen in shock before he returned her smile with a small, “Feh.” Everyone seemed to calm once they realized that he wouldn’t still try to hurt her, although the children were wary of him and ended up getting closer to the other fighters; Rin moved towards Sesshoumaru, Shippou towards Kurama, and Kohaku near his own sister.

After a tense moment, Kagome stood, a fierce determination on her face. “He will not harm anyone, anymore. We cannot let him.” She said, earning strong looks from the rest of the group. They knew she spoke the truth, and all stood, taking up her lead. They bound through the forest, and not even the bravest of demons would dare come to them, or try to stop them. Their overall formidable force was one unbeatable, and they were hunting for the one who would finally answer for all the pain he wreaked upon mankind and demonkind alike.

They could all smell the vile stench of the hanyou as they reached the Bone Eater’s Well. The one thing they never expected, though, was the well to be in splinters. Acid ate away at the wood that was the well, and splinters smoked from it. Horror and fear crossed each person’s face, and Kagome’s first reaction, the only reaction she could bring forth, was a blood curdling scream of pain.

Koenma’s eyes flashed to the monitor as a huge demon signature made itself known. He concentrated on the screen, waiting for the other signatures of Kagome’s protectors, but when he saw that only one demon came through the well, he paled. ‘This is not good…’ he thought quickly before the camera on the Higurashi place caught his eye. His face changed from one of worry, to one of pure fear and horror. The dark hanyou had destroyed the well! There was no way for his detective’s nor the miko to come back on their own!

Instantly, he called up Botan. “You have to open a portal! Get them back here NOW!” he shouted, fear overtaking his voice. It wouldn’t be long before that dark hanyou had the support he needed, especially from the Makai. He needed his team and now! A moan escaped his lips at the thought of his father finding out how much trouble they were in at this very moment. He wouldn’t be able to sit down for weeks.

Kagome’s sobs made everyone flinch. She cried, yes, but never was there so much despair and sorrow with those tears. Surprisingly enough, Inuyasha was the first to comfort her, returning the favor she had so freely given to him. “Shhh…we’ll figure it out…we’ll find a way to get you home…” he whispered soothingly, something very out of character for him.

“Koenma should notice Naraku going through the well…hopefully he will send Botan for us.” Genkai said, in her own way trying to sooth the young miko.

“The longer he’s there, and no one to stop him, the more people he will hurt! I should have killed him when I had the chance! I shouldn’t have let it come to this!” Kagome shouted out, pain and dejection in her voice.

“It’s not your fault, Kagome. He is the one making his choices. He is the one choosing to be evil.” The darker voice of Hiei said, glaring at Inuyasha enough to make him back off of her. His own arms wrapped around her, and she held onto him tightly, as if he would disappear should she let go.

Sango nodded in agreement, along with everyone else. Somehow, they would find and kill Naraku. They wouldn’t let him hurt anymore innocents.

“Hello everyone!” an all too familiar voice came through to them, making Kagome look up with tear filled eyes. She launched herself at the Grim Reaper and almost cut off her entire oxygen supply before letting go. “I love you forever, Botan!” she shouted, earning sweatdrops from the rest of the team. “Uhm…I love you, too, Kagome?” she replied, before opening another portal. As the boys stepped through, Kagome looked to the past Sesshoumaru.

“I’m sorry…I won’t get to see you again in this era. I will be with you in the future, though, if you want to see me.” She said, a sad smile on her face. Before anyone could do anything else, he walked forward and kissed her deeply, making her knees go wobbly and weak.

“I promise you, miko. I will see you in the future.” He vowed, before breaking away from her, and stepping back. Shock registered for a moment before she nodded, a bright smile on her face. She then looked to Miroku and Sango. “Coming guys? You know, you’re always welcome at my house…but you probably won’t be able to come back here…” she trailed off before they clasped hands.

“Wherever you go, we go Kagome. No more will we be separated from one another. Besides, we are family.” They said, smiling to their sister. Grinning from ear to ear, she ushered them forward through the portal, coming face to face with Kaede. Saying good-bye again was tough. She smiled and hugged the old miko gently before kissing her cheek.

“Take care of yourself, Kaede-baba. I love you so much.” She said, before slipping through the now fading portal just behind Shippou, but before Botan.

They ended up in front of the Goshiboku, and Inuyasha instantly growled. The evil hanyou’s scent was blanketing over the purity that Kagome emitted, and it angered him. Before things got too out of hand, the demi god appeared. His anxiety and worry very evident.

Things weren’t looking too good.

A/N: It’s short, but maybe another update coming really soon. I want to get all of my stories updated at least once during break. Here’s hoping! Please R/R! I love them!

Kudos, Loves!
