Final Battle: InuYasha's Turn part 3
InuYasha pained at seeing his friend’s death became incensed. He was bruised head to heel from trying to free himself from the incantation that Kikyo had him in. But it began to slacken.
“Naraku!! You’ll pay for this!!”
“Have you suffered enough InuYasha?”
InuYasha growled.
“You will die for this Naraku, I swear…”
“No InuYasha, you will pay with your life. You owe me. You were supposed to belong to me and because I loved you I died. You owe me your life and Kagome can’t protect you now.”
InuYasha’s heart stopped beating as he listened to Kikyo’s words. All this time he forgot that Kagome was in danger. He was too in shock with witnessing the demise of his friends.
“What have you done to her Kikyo? If you’ve hurt her I’ll…”
“Kill me InuYasha? Hmm, I’m already dead if I do recall. I am here in this clay body borrowing souls from those who’ve died. You don’t have the power to destroy me. Only Kaede and Kagome did.”
InuYasha’s ears perked up at her choice of words. The word ‘did’ struck a cord in his body that made him snap. Kagome and his unborn child were lost to him. In anguish he broke free from her spell and ran toward her his claws out.
“Now is your time to join me InuYasha, Now die!”
As she let go of the arrow it sliced through the air. ‘InuYasha, I love you,. I can take my own life now that you are gone. Naraku thought he won, he thought if I helped him he will have me. But no, my heart belonged to one person alone and now we will be together forever in death.’
The arrow flew with its shimmer of priestess energy surge hitting the mark.
“No!!! How…I thought….” Kikyo screamed stepping back.
Kagome landed into InuYasha with the purifying arrow protruding through her chest. Her blood spilled everywhere onto InuYasha’s coat. With each drop InuYasha felt Kagome’s life force drain from her body. Cradling her in his arms he cried. Actual tears fell from his eyes as he saw her love for him through her pain. He broke the tip of the arrow from the back and as fast as he could he pulled the arrow through; she screamed out in agony.
He held her in his lap and hugged her to him. She hugged him back. He noticed too that her arm was broken and she had already lost a lot of blood. On her face she sported a purple/red bruise on the side of her head from hitting something really hard. Kagome’s body began to shiver as she got cold.
“No…no….Kagome…no you can’t…leave me you promised.” InuYasha whispered. His body shook with grief. The ache in his heart was so great he was tempted to pull it from his body and hurl it to hell. Kagome gave him a waning smile and like a feather she touched his face and wiped his tears.
“I’m sorry InuYasha, I couldn’t let her kill you…not with me alive. By killing me she will die also. This was my fate I guess.”
“No, you don’t have to die Kagome, I forbid you to die do you hear me!”
Tears shed from her eyes.
“It was the only way, I love you.” With the last of her strength she touched his lips with hers and he felt the last bit of warmness leave her body.
“KAGOME!!!”
After what seemed an eternity InuYasha laid her down. In a stupor he just looked at her. When he finally noticed Kaede presence.
“It seems that Kagome had to die by protecting you whereas Kikyo died killing you. They both loved you and yet both of them had a different vision of life for ye InuYasha.”
Kaede kneeled over to Kagome’s body with tears spilling from her withered face. She looked up and saw Kikyo standing there blood spilling forth from her too as she watched in horror.
Kikyo was stunned as she heard Naraku laughing at her. She bled profusely from her chest were Kagome took the sacred arrow. She felt her body dying rapidly around her when she crumpled to the ground in pain.
She looked up at InuYasha and saw the turmoil he was in. Then she looked at Kaede crying over the girl who looked exactly like she did. She stretched out a hand as a single tear slipped from her eyes.
“InuYasha…I love you.”
But all she saw was a blank stare. It seemed as if he had died when Kagome’s spirit left this world. She thought she would be happy to see him dead, but she realized too late that she loved him alive.
Kaede crawled over to her sister “Kikyo, sister Kikyo. But Kikyo’s body turned to dust and swirled around in the wind. Kaede continued to cry and died of grief.
“Naraku!! You’ll pay for this!!”
