Chapter 13 The Chase
A/N: Sorry the for the long wait. I have about two to three more chapters and I can finally put this one to rest. Enjoy.
Chapter 13
The Chase
Kouga stood there as the blast from the mighty sword came at him fast; he contemplated on which direction to head. He hopped away from the devastating blow that he was about to receive. Running forward, he was able to dodge Inuyasha’s weapon as he headed towards Kagome, while her arrow buzzed right by his head. ‘That was close!' he thought.
Kouga ran towards Sesshomaru, with his new developed speed. He snatched Kagome from behind and took off with the screaming girl in his arms.
Sesshomaru blinked in confusion, no one has ever out maneuvered him. Kouga was fast—very fast indeed. Without waiting for his brother and the cursing, he was now receiving. He ran with all his might to catch up with the undead wolf—and his new sister, he never had—and yet accepted. It was the day he fought his brother and saw the wrongs brought upon the young priestess. He felt ashamed for all the years him and his brother fought. He should have never let it escalade so far, and now he was chasing after them, hoping to bring righteousness, instead of more suffering.
He could clearly smell that it wasn't his brothers doings, and was a good thing too, for he wouldn't have heisted of killing his brother right on the spot. He might have been against his father for taking a human companion/mate. Yet, now he could see why Inuyasha was so protective over her. Something extruded through this girls aurora, her pureness—even after a vile act— remained.
The dirt from the dry ground, stirred until a ball of dust left at Inuyasha’s feet where his brother just was. ‘Damn, damn, damn!’ He silently cursed as his brother's retreating form suddenly turned into a big white orb. Inuyasha tried to keep up with his full-blooded demon of a brother, yet it was useless. He could only hope that Sesshomaru didn't kill Kouga, for he was the one that needed retribution and he would make sure that he would die. Moreover, if for whatever reason Sesshomaru killed him, he would threaten him in reviving him then he would kill him again. Only he would not make the fatal error in thinking that the wolf was dead. Inuyasha could only find peace if Kouga’s body was disengaged from his being, so he could never be resurrected again.
Kagome screamed, she didn't want to be his mate or yet become another victim to his horrendous crime. She could feel the tinge of power coming forth and she knew that she would only get one chance; this time she would finish him off for good. Grabbing his shoulders, she dug her fingernails into his flesh, praying that her spiritual power was strong enough to purify him.
Kouga stopped suddenly feeling a small jolt of power, he laughed at her futile attempt to purify him. "Is that all you have love!" he snickered, and then flung her off his shoulder as she landed hard on the ground. He growled and lifted her up by the hair, only to hit her hard across the face. He noticed a trickle of blood extruding out of the corner of her mouth. He watched in anger as she steeled herself. She would pay, for trying to harm him. Without a second thought he punched her as he watched her fall onto the ground, this time unconscious. He looked around, for any sign of the others. His smile widened, he was alone, and Kagome was definitely helpless.
Kouga sniffed the air one last time. He looked down as Kagome moaned, slightly. Kouga kneeled down beside her as he looked at her long legs, and the bareness of her thigh since her attire lifted slightly. She was there for the taking, he didn't care that she was semi-unconscious. He wasn't there to pleasure her, he just needed to reestablish his mark. He growled, as he considered here wasn’t the place to do this. Instead, he retrieved her and threw her over his shoulder. He was just about to sprint away, when an all too familiar chuckle echoed across the treetops, with the song of rustling leaves.
Kouga knew all to well who that laugh belonged to. "Naraku…? Show yourself!"
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. How sweet, you finally retrieved your mate." Naraku's eyes darkened, "it’s too bad that you won’t be able to enjoy her one last time."
Kouga growled, his eyes narrowed, and anger washed around his body. He should've known that Naraku would betray him. "We made a deal!" he hissed. "I get the girl and Inuyasha was yours for the taking."
"Foolish wolf…! When have you've known me to keep my word."
"Kagome is mine!" Kouga snarled.
Naraku smiled wickedly, "The shards are mine! And now it's time to take them back."
Kouga's eyes widened, "What? No way in hell!" Instead of fighting he fled. He was after all carrying four jewel shards. There was no way Naraku would be able to catch up. And since Kagome was the only one who could see the shards, Naraku would never know where he would be hiding. He roared with a crazed laugh. Neither would the brothers.
