As Kagome moved to the beat she was unaware of the pair of blood red eyes that shined like rubies watching her every move.

Chapter Fifteen

It had been a month since Kagome had gone to the meeting with Inuyasha. So far the threat that Naraku made had to have been a bluff. Inuyasha had insisted that she call him every night before she went to bed though, just to make sure she was safe. If Naraku were to strike it would probably be at his soon to be mate. Killing a demons mate was the best way to hurt a demon.

Kagome was at the moment in her bathroom. She had just gotten out of the shower and was blow drying her hair. Opening the door she went to her room to rummage through her mess of draws. Kagome pulled on a matching pair of red lace panties and then a sheer nightgown that looked like it was made for an eight year old. It came to mid to upper thigh. The red color made her look alluring. She slid into bed, but remembering she needed to call Inuyasha first she grabbed her phone. RING. RING. RING.

"Hello." Inuyasha had groggily answered the phone on the third ring. He was about to fall a sleep waiting for Kagome to make her nightly call.

"Everything’s good here. I'll see in the morning. Love you." Kagome spoke in a tired, yet loving voice that practically showed her smile in its tone.

"Night babe. Call me if something happens. Love you too." The dial tone went off in Kagome's ear as Inuyasha finished his sentence. Alerting her that he had hung up. She felt lonely in her apartment. Sango was out of town. Her brother broke his leg and her mother wasn't alive. Her father had his business to take care of and Kohaku was on his own. Inuyasha had offered to stay the night, but she needed to get actual sleep, so she turned him down as sweetly as she could.

As Kagome slipped into an uncomfortable sleep a figure moved outside her window. The person in question cracked open the window as quietly as possible and jumped in. There was a window on the pavement outside Kagome's window so the hop wasn't too far. The figure landed soundlessly. Peering into the dark silver eyes shimmered. The person had on tight black sweats and its long purple hair was pulled up into a tight bun. It was obviously a girl. Her pale face was hidden in the shadows of the room.

The intruder slinked over to the bed. Kagome had her face turned to the door. Taking the opportunity the woman pulled out a knife and put a hand over Kagome's mouth. The sleeping girl’s eyes opened wide with fright as she flailed her arms around. She kicked the attacker in the stomach and sent her flying. If it were a human the woman would be dead with the impact of the blow to her head, the key word is human. The female demon was on her feet as soon as she hit the floor.

Kagome knew this person had to be sent from Naraku. She jumped to her feet in time to see the punch headed her way. Kagome dodged and did a punch to the left should and kick to the right leg combo. The demon dodged the punch, but the kick hit its target. The woman went down, but not before jabbing the blade into Kagome's left shoulder. Kagome screamed the second the blade sank into her shoulder. The pain was intense and excruciating. Kagome was pulled to the ground and the woman pulled the knife from Kagome's shoulder. She brought it down to an inch before Kagome's face, but said girl grabbed the blade. Blood now dripped from her shoulder and hands.

After jabbing the weapon upward with all her might Kagome knocked the demon in the face with the handle of the item. She rolled to the side and stood. Kagome ran to her door and wrenched it open. She made it to Sango's room slamming and locking the door. The front door was too far. The demon would have caught her before she could reach it. She raced to the window seat and threw off the pillows and grabbed the crease of the seat opening it. She picked out a bow and arrows. Just as she strung up the bow the door exploded into pieces. The demons hair was now a mess and blood was dripping down her cheek. She lunged at Kagome, who aimed her bow. It glowed a slight pink and the assailant stopped mid lunge.

"WHO ARE YOU?" Kagome's voice was raspy and panic stricken. The demon looked at the bow to its wielder.

"Ryo" taking a risk the demon ran at the girl in hopes of surprising her. She did, but Kagome released the arrow as an effect of the sudden, unexpected movement. The arrow hit the demon in the gut. Right before Kagome's eyes the demon died. The knife and a note fell from her hands. Kagome shook violently, but stood on her trembling legs. She reached out for the note. She opened it and her eyes went wide.

Inuyasha,

Your bitch was the first. You will be the last. I will hunt down your brother and his wench. Then I'll come for you. Surrender now or you won't have a prayer.

Kagome's legs gave out. Naraku had tried to kill her. She knew it had been a possibility, but when it comes right down to it she didn't really believe anyone could do that. She felt the tears that ran down her cheeks and the pain searing her shoulder and hands. Her blood was slick all over the window seat and pillows. The bow and arrows lay discarded. She barely realized her actions. She went through the motions of calling Inuyasha. RING.RING. RIN-.

"Hullo." Inuyasha had been a sleep for quite sometime when his annoying phone rang off awaking him.

"In-Inuyasha? It...It’s me. Kagome." her voice was barely audible, but he heard it and she heard the rustling of sheets as he sat up in bed.

"Kagome what's wrong. Answer me." his voice was thick with worry and demanding.

"I...I...he...I was attacccked." she wailed as she tried to talk and hold it at the same time, obviously failing.

"I'll be there in 5 stay where you are. Don't move." he hung up quick and she sat there in a daze. Her eyes wondered back to the knife. The body had disappeared. She had never killed anyone in her life. 'I wish Sango was here' she thought in shock.

Inuyasha arrived in 5 minutes as promised. He walked in and ran to her room. She wasn't there and he freaked. "Kagome!" he shouted. He heard her reply and raced to the room next to hers. She looked up and the second that he gave her a worried look and raced to her side wrapping his arms around her, she crumbled. She sobbed deeply into his shoulder. He noticed her blood and anger surged through out his body.

"What happen?" it was a dumb question that was only answered by louder sobs. He sighed and picked her up from the floor and brought her to the bathroom. He looked at her hands and anger again overwhelmed him. He bit his lip to stop from yelling. Inuyasha gently took out the first aid kit under her sink and cleaned and bandaged her wounds. She winced clearly at the anti-bacterial cream and cringed as he applied pressure to seal the bandages.

"Kagome you have to tell me what happen." Inuyasha's eyes were pleading with the shaken girl.

"The demon...it attacked me after I went to sleep. It...It stabbed me in the shoulder and we fought. She had me...she had me pinned, but...but I grabbed the blade before she could stab me and I hit it in her face. I ran blindly from the room to Sango's. I locked the door and...And then took out the bow and arrows from her window seat. The door burst to pieces and then it...it attaacked me. It stopped as I pointed the bow at it. She told me her name, Ryo. Then attacked and I...and I...and I shot her. I killed her. She dropped the knife and a letter. It-" before she could finish he had raced into the room again and with her in his arms. He snatched up the letter.

Inuyasha's face darkened as he read the note. He saw the N which was Naraku's signature. His eyes burned with fury and he looked around the room. He saw all the blood on the window seat, bow and arrows, and the pillows. He glanced at Kagome in concern. She had lost alot of blood. Inuyasha kissed her forehead and placed her on the bed. He reached for Sango's phone and called Sesshomaru. He sent for Inuyasha and had people on the way to clean the apartment. Kagome would not be staying there any longer.

As the limo rolled on toward Sesshomaru's mansion all she could think was, 'what's next?'

A/N: Okay so what'd you think? Sorry I couldn't update this weekend, but you should expect that from now on. I'm not gonna update on weekends. Now because I know you all are very smart you’re wondering why Naraku would try to kill someone he was lusting after. Well she was already claimed. Maybe not marked, but claimed all the same. It's one of those if I can't have her no one will things. Plus it would hurt Inuyasha so major bonus. Business before pleasure would be the motto. Hope you liked it. No flames please.
