A New Path

Sesshomaru left Kagome on the living room couch. She sat down, then looked up at him sadly. She thought that he was going to leave her now that he knew her ancestry. Sesshomaru went into the kitchen and found Kagome’s mother.

“I wish to marry your daughter, and make her my life-mate. Will you permit this?” He asked formally. Kagome’s mother brightened. She smiled, and gestured for him to wait. She ran into her bedroom and got something from her jewelry box. She quickly returned to the kitchen and Sesshomaru.

“Of course you may marry my Kagome. However, due to her father’s family tradition, you must use this as the wedding ring” she said, holding up the required ring. It was a golden ring, with a large Emerald surrounded by smaller sapphires, and those were surrounded by even smaller pearls. It was grand, but tasteful, perfect for a Demon Lady.

“It is beautiful, and demon craftsmanship at that! How did you come by it?” Sesshomaru asked as he admired the ring.

“Kagome’s father gave it to me. He said that it was informally given, as a promise that he would return and make me his mate. I never saw him alive again. However, I saw him on our news, some people found him dead in the city, no one knew who or what he was, but I did. I still remember that night as if it was yesterday…” With that Kagome’s mother went into a trance, and Sesshomaru could see into her mind, and saw what happened.

**It was a dark night, Miss Higurashi was in the remnants of Inuyasha’s forest searching for herbs that only bloomed at night. She heard a howling, and rustling coming from the trees. Petrified, she ran in the opposite direction. She was followed by a great doglike creature, a demon. He cornered her in a grove of close trees. She spun around, and saw him. She watched in wonder as he changed from a giant dog into the most handsome man she’d ever seen. He walked up to her, and took her chin in his hand.
“Don’t be frightened. I mean you no harm. I’m sorry that I scared you, it is just that you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and you have a power around you. I had to come and meet you.” He said soothingly. She replied quickly.
“My father is a priest, and my mother was a priestess. All my ancestors were either priests or priestesses, perhaps that is the power you felt.” He looked down at her, and asked her an important question.
“Would you do me the great honor of becoming my mate? You would be the perfect mother for my children and I could protect you from all harm. You are vulnerable living at the edge of Inuyasha’s forest, even though it has become a weak and pitiful place.”
“Yes, I would like that very much.” She answered.
He leaned down and kissed her softly, slowly adding more passion. His tongue begged her for entry, and she granted it to him. He began to loosen her kimono, and remove it from her body…**

Sesshomaru blushed, and stopped watching, he kept only a small amount of attention on the memory, so that he would know when they were finished…mating. When he was sure it was safe he tuned back in.

**“I have to go now, but here, I promise to return. In case of another claiming you as a wife, legally, I have restored your maidenhead, until I return. Take this, this ring has been in my family for years. It will protect you, and it proves that I will return to marry you, and be your husband and mate. You are pregnant, and will have a very powerful child. I love you and will return to you, I promise.” He said. He kissed her once more, and vanished. **

With that, Kagome’s mother woke from her trance. She smiled at Sesshomaru, and began to instruct him on how to propose to her daughter. Kagome’s mother explained the human way of proposing.

“First you must get down on one knee, then proclaim your love for her. Then ask her to marry you. I’m sure you can either combine the demon and human way, or you can propose the human way here, and gather her friends and your people back in the feudal era and do it the demon way” she instructed.

“Why can’t I just do it the demon way? Must I also marry her the human way before I can mate her?” Sesshomaru asked.

“Yes, Kagome will feel better about the mating, and I’m sure she would appreciate it. Comprise will help keep you both happy throughout this relationship.” Her mother said wisely. Sesshomaru agreed. Together they went to find Sota and Grandpa.

Meanwhile, Kagome sat on the couch worrying. The longer Sesshomaru took to bring her family the more worried Kagome got. She truly feared that Sesshomaru was going to leave her. Finally, just when she thought that she couldn’t take it anymore, her family entered the living room. Kagome sat up straight, and searched her mother’s face for signs that she should be worried. Her mother smiled, but it was a sad smile. Kagome gulped and watched the doorway for Sesshomaru to appear.

When he finally did, Kagome’s heart fluttered. It surged with love and fear. He came over in front of Kagome and kneeled down on one knee. He looked up at her and smiled lovingly.

“Kagome, you are the best thing to ever happen to me. You are my first real love, and you mean so much to me. I love you, and I would be honored if you would become my wife and mate. Kagome, will you marry me?”

A/N: No reviews, no next chapter. I have it halfway written, and have a lot of ideas for the rest of the story, so REVIEW. I can't be sure that you are reading if you dont review, and if no one is reading what is the point? Sorry it took so long to update, school took over and i forgot about the story...SORRY. bye for now
