Chapter 14: Self Defense Isn’t Murder

Nearing her little black car she could make out that it was some sort of cloth wadded up with a piece of folded paper safety pinned to it. Leaning over Kagome carefully pulled back the windshield wiper blade and retrieved the strange object. She unfolded the note first and read it. ‘Do you see what you do to me Kagome?’ She wrinkled her brow in confusion to the strange note when she decided to take a closer look at the object it was safety pinned to. Kagome panicked when she felt whoever was taking her yank her arms behind her back and begin to bind them with rope. She was tossed into the front seat of a car and then glanced to her left when the other door opened and her kidnapper climbed into the driver’s seat. Her blue gray eyes widened and then narrowed when she recognized her kidnapper as Sesshomaru Nobunaga. “Relax Kagome, I’m not going to hurt you if you cooperate.”

He cranked the car and headed towards his penthouse. Arriving at his penthouse he dragged Kagome out of the car and forced her to walk in front of him until they reached his penthouse. Forcing her inside he locked the door securely behind them. Sesshomaru backed Kagome into the sofa so she was forced to sit down. “Who were you on the phone with koi?”

“I uh talked to Kikyo, she just called. She’s coming over if that’s okay?”

“Oh did you invite her over?”

Kagome’s eyes watered and her lungs began to burn as the lack of oxygen was starting to take effect. She glanced to her left and noticed light reflecting off a shiny metal object on top of the dresser. Grabbing the cold metal object in her left hand Kagome swiftly dug it into Sesshomaru’s neck.

A spray of dark crimson blood soaked Kagome’s neck and breasts as the sharp object pierced Sesshomaru’s creamy white skin. Sesshomaru staggered backwards releasing his hold on Kagome’s neck and stumbled over to the bed. Kagome and Kikyo watched as he fell limply onto the bed blood pouring from the deep gash in his neck drenching the white silk sheets on his bed.

Kagome stared down at her left hand that still tightly clutched what she now recognized as a letter opener. Sesshomaru’s blood oozed down the blade to drip onto her slender fingers making her abruptly drop the letter opener. “K-Kagome, is he?”

“Dead? I….I…I don’t know!” She crept over to the bed and grabbed Sesshomaru’s right arm. Grasping his wrist she checked for a pulse but found none. “Kikyo, I…I think I killed him!”

“Kagome just calm down! Look he was trying to strangle you to death, it was self defense! You didn’t mean to kill him you just wanted to get him away from you.”

“But I did kill him Kikyo! He’s dead and I killed him! I’m a murderer!”

“No Kagome, that’s not true. He was trying to kill you, you were just protecting yourself. But we have to call the police.”

“I know, could you please call them for me Kikyo?”

“Yeah Kagome, I’ll call. Just wrap a blanket around yourself okay?” Kagome nodded and did as Kikyo told her. Kikyo dressed and called the police.

“Hello 911, what’s your emergency?”

“Um yes, we need the police department. There’s been an accident.”

“What kind of accident miss?”

“My friend was nearly strangled to death and her attacker is dead.”

“Alright miss, what’s your location?”

“The Willow Lake Penthouse Suites. The penthouse is number twenty one.”

“Okay miss I’m sending a patrol car over there right now, it will just take a few minutes.”

“Okay thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome.” Hanging up the phone Kikyo sat beside Kagome on the floor and wrapped her arm around her shoulder.

“Nothing because I was a witness to the whole thing and Sesshomaru tried to kill you. Just relax and everything will be fine. I promise Kagome, nothing is going to happen to you.”

“I hope you’re right. Oh no!”

“Inuyasha!”

“Call him Kagome and tell him what happened.” Kagome nodded and grabbed the phone.

“Inuyasha?”

“Inuyasha I did something tonight.”

“Like what babe?”

“I killed Sesshomaru Nobunaga.”

“You’re teacher? How?”

“He was going to rape me and then when I tried to make him stop he tried to strangle me! So I grabbed a letter opener off his dresser and stabbed him with it. Inuyasha I was only trying to make him leave me alone I never meant to kill him!”

“Relax baby girl I believe you. Where are you?”

“At the Willow Lake Penthouse Suites.”

“I’m on my way, what penthouse is it?”

“Number twenty one and hurry Yash I need you.” Hanging up the phone Kagome stared once more at the bed where Sesshomaru’s lifeless body lay in a large pool of blood. ‘ I had no other choice, he was going to kill me. I had to kill him! It was self defense not murder!’

It seemed like an eternity before the police and Inuyasha arrived at the penthouse. Kagome sat on the floor as the police officers entered the room. Looking up at them with tears glistening in her blue gray eyes she prepared to tell them everything that had happened that had led up to this horrible night.
