Sess: This Sesshomaru was amused.

Inu: (pouting) Oh sut up and get on with it!

Chapter Twelve

The land, which would be their battlefield, was dead, the wind picked up dust and dirt as the ruins of what once was a prosperous village of the southern lands lay before them. Kagome could hardly breathe for the stench of the miasma that hovered above the ground. She then sent out a purifying wave, destroying the miasma and revealing the thousands of youkai that stood on the other side of the battlefield. Upon a hill, behind his armies, Naraku stood, in his usual white pelt. Yumi, dressed in a simple, white kimono stood beside him shielding a small girl and young man.

Kagome could see the magical chains that held Yumi to Naraku. They were invisible to those that were not holders of the Shikon or held holy powers. She was dressed in the garb of a miko and wore the armor that once had been Midoriko’s. A magical wakazashi called Tsunagi was strapped to her waist as she pulled back on her bow and shot a purifying arrow towards Naraku’s front line. Jin, Sesshomaru, and InuYasha flanked her garbed in their armor and weapons drawn. InuYasha also had Yumi’s katana at his waist, ready to give it to her when he reached her.

“Why is she just standing there?” he asked.“Nar“Naraku placed special chains on her, and she’s protecting the children,” Kagome whispered as she let her arrow fly. Her pink, miko energy and blue, youkai power over water swirled about the arrow as it hit the ground, destroying a good third of Naraku’s army.

Naraku narrowed his eyes. ‘How did she get so powerful?’ he asked himself as he gave the order to attack to his swarms of lower youkai.

Jin glanced to Sesshomaru, who nodded. He then lifted his sword high as it became wreathed in flame. “Charge!” Jin shouted as the dark army started for them. At his command, the armies of the other lands ran forward their weapons drawn, their collective voices were a roar as they charged forwards until they clashed with Naraku’s army and became a sea of bodies and weapons and blood.

Yumi watched the fight with nearly dead eyes. She glanced to Kanna, whom stood behind her with a similar look, and Kohaku, that wanted badly to join the battle and fight beside his sister and her friends. She then noticed something. There, on the hill opposite to her, stood four figures. One in particular caught her eye, causing her eyes to fill with unshed tears. “InuYasha!” she gasped.

Naraku glanced to Yumi and scowled. ‘Damn that mutt! She was nearly mine!’ he then smirked. “Gaze at him all you want, for this is the last time you will see him, koi.”

Yumi glared at Naraku. Her ki flared, causing her chains to burn her skin slightly. “Don’t. Call. Me. Koi!” she seethed.

Naraku chuckled. “I’ll call you what I want, bitch, you are mine!”

Yumi had had it. She was sick of his talk. Her kit grew immensely, along with the pain from the chains that bound her. her eyes became completely white and she screamed as her power burst forth in its purest form, knocking Naraku and those fighting below to the ground.

InuYasha had finished unleashing a Kazi no Kizu wave, vaporizing a good amount of youkai when he was hit by the energy wave and heard the scream that came from Yumi. He scrambled to his feet and glanced to the others. Sesshomaru had shielded Kagome from the blast and now stood with his arms around her, his white clothes splattered with blood. Kagome was stiff staring in awe at her sister, her armor was just as stained with blood and she had her sword drawn. Jin leapt to his feet, a look of pure fear in his eyes. Miroku and Sango stood with Kilala, Miroku was leaning in his staff, his cursed arm bleeding. Sango stood with the Hirakutso (sp?) in hand; ready to let it fly once again, before him, protectively. Kagura was on one knee, clutching her chest; Naraku had seen her fighting against him and was now squeezing her heart. Kouga stood before her, slaying all those that came near. InuYasha then looked to Yumi that stood out like a light in the dark. He then glanced to Kagome.

“Get ready to purify that damned jewel!” he shouted as he leapt into the air towards his mate.

Naraku was too distracted by the vision of pure energy before him to see the enraged hanyou that leapt at him, slashing him in the shoulder with his mighty fang and landing in front of her. Naraku turned his attention to InuYasha and scowled. “That wnot not happen again.”

InuYasha smirked. “No, next time I’ll cut your fucking head off!”

Naraku smirked. “I think not.”

Yumi saw the flash of red before her and let her power drop. “InuYasha?” she whispered as her eyes became their usual cool blue.

InuYasha unsheathed her sword and tossed it to her with a smile. “You forgot this.”

Yumi smiled happily as she caught it. “Good thing I have you to remember such things.”

Naraku chuckled. “This is a sweet moment, brief, but sweet,” he commented as a tentacle shot out of his body towards InuYasha.

Yumi moved quicker than light and lopped the thing off before it even neared him. she then used its magical edge to cut through her bonds, leaving them in pieces on the ground. She then smirked to Naraku, her eyes wild and shining with a knowing. “I believe my brief neutrality is over, Naraku.”

Naraku growled in annoyance. “I suppose all things must end. That includes your life now as well!” he shouted as five new tentacles shot from him towards InuYasha, Yumi and the children.

Yumi’s eyes widened as one headed straight for Kanna. Without a thought she leapt before it, catching it in her breast. Time seemed to slow. Kagome and Sesshomaru swooped in and cut down the remaining tentacles as InuYasha ran to Yumi’s side. Yumi’s head fell back as blood came from her opened mouth. Her sword fell to the ground in front of Kanna. As her body hit the ground time resumed its normal pace.

InuYasha clutched Yumi to his chest. “Kuso!” he shouted as he saw the hole in her chest.

Yumi winced and whimpered slightly. “You are such a foul mouth,” she whispered.

“And you’re an idiot! What in the hell gave you the idea that doing that was a good idea?”

“I was not thinking. And your grammar needs improving,” she choked.

InuYasha was at a loss. He didn’t know what to do. She was dieing in his arms and he could do nothing. “Yumi I-”

“It is alright, koiishi, I know.”

InuYasha whimpered in frustration. “I… I don’t know what to do! I don’t want to lose you!”

Yumi smiled as her eyes glazed over. “You won’t lose me. I promise,” she said softly.

“No… no, don’t die!”

“Ai shiteru, Inu-chan…” she whispered as her body went limp in his arms and her eyes became vacant.

InuYasha buried his head in Yumi’s body and let the tears escape. Kanna looked down at the sword before her and then to InuYasha and then to Naraku. She then picked the katana up and stealthily moved up to her ‘father’. Naraku was too busy gloating over InuYasha’s tears to notice the small child near him. He noticed though, when said sword was stabbed through his torso. He looked down to the small girl and scowled as he slapped her away. he then pulled the sword from his body with a grunt and tossed it aside.

“Stupid child, to think she could harm me. So naive.”

InuYasha stopped his tears and placed Yumi onto the ground. Slowly, he stood and turned to Naraku. “Naraku…” he growled.

“I seem to have taken yet another thing from you, InuYasha. Such a pity, she was such a pleasing woman after all.”

“You bastard! Don’t you dare talk about her like that!” InuYasha snapped, Tetsusaiga was in hand ready to rend Naraku to pieces.

Naraku laughed. “What makes you think you can harm me?”

InuYasha smirked. “Let me ask you something, Naraku. Where are your jewel shards?”

Naraku furrowed his eyebrows and grabbed at the necklace that was around his neck. His eyes went wide. He then noticed something small and pink in InuYasha’s claws. “That little whore!” he raged.

InuYasha locked his jaw. He then tossed the jewel to Kagome. “This ends now!” he shouted as he leapt forward.

Naraku narrowed his eyes at the hanyou. “Hai, it does.”

Kagome placed the shards together and watched as a pink light washed over the field, purifying their foes. Now only Naraku stood before them. She then looked over to Sesshomaru, whom nodded and drew the Tenseiga.

Naraku watched in horror as InuYasha drew his sword back and it began to glow red. ‘No, all my plans, everything… because of him! This can’t be the end!’ he thought to himself as InuYasha unleashed the Tetsusaiga’s ultimate attack upon him, rendering him to ashes, but not before he spoke, “I will return.”

InuYasha dropped to his knees. He then turned his head to where his brother stood over Yumi, his sword drawn. His eyes took on a confused light. He was about to protest when Sesshomaru swing down twice, causing a golden light to come from the cuts in her body. He leapt to his feet, ready to kill his brother, when he saw her stir.

Yumi felt the darkness that once held her recede. Slowly, she opened her eyes. At first the light stung, but as her senses returned she saw her family and friends before her. “Do not tell me that you are all dead as well?” she moaned.

InuYasha smiled and picked Yumi up bridal style. “No, you baka, you’re alive!”

Yumi groaned and placed a hand on her head. “I cannot be… I must be in hell, you’re here.”

“What in the hell is that supposed to mean?” he asked gruffly.

“Yes, definitely hell. Your grammar is my eternal torture… I should have known.”

“What the fuck is mattmatter with the way I speak?”

“Your language is poetic. Really, InuYasha, did you think I could be spared your flowery words?”

Kagome suppressed a giggle. InuYasha then rolled his eyes and pressed his lips against Yumi’s. Yumi stopped her insults and kissed back. When they broke from each other, she placed her forehead against his. “Okay, so maybe I am alive.”

“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you, woman.”

“And Naraku?”

“Gone.”

Yumi glanced over to the pile of ashes that was Naraku and then to the unconscious Kanna. Her eyes went wide as she leapt from InuYasha’s arms and picked the little girl up. Kanna stirred and then opened her large, dark eyes to Yumi’s. “Yumi-okkasan,” she whispered.

“Kanna, I saw what you did to Naraku, that was very brave, but very foolish. Do not ever do that again.”

“Gomen Okkasan. I will not. How are you here?”

“Sesshomaru brought me back to life with his sword.”

Kanna looked over to the stoic taiyoukai and Kagome before looking back to Yumi. “Are you sure, he looks angry?”

Yumi laughed while InuYasha and Kagome snickered. Sesshomaru sighed and rolled his eyes. Then he felt it, something was off. He then glanced to InuYasha, who felt it as well. Yumi stood and looked to the ashes. She then shoved her hand into the pile and pulled out a broken, wooden doll wrapped in a hair. She then looked around herself.

Kagome was now staring at the Shikon no Tama in her hand. It was changing from dark to light rapidly. ‘It isn’t over. Naraku’s still out there.’ She then noticed that the jewel was complete, her eyes went wide and she turned to Kohaku, whom had been silent and unmoved the entire time. “You’re not Kohaku!”

‘Kohaku’ chuckled with a smooth, deep voice. He then opened his crimson eyes and smiled to Kagome. “Very astute, miko. This is far from over.”

Inu: Wait! you can't leave them hanging like that!

Sess: Yes, the whelp is right, i want to kill something now!

Miroku: How come i'm the one who's injured?

Levii: Oh stop whining! Seesh! You know, too much violence can be bad for you.

Inu: Yeah, so you like things that are bad for you.

Sess: that is true, i don't recall you complaining the other night when-

Levii: OKay! okay, so i'm not perfect, and what did i tell you about divulging my fantasies?

Sess: Not to.

Levii: Exactly! now cut it out!

Miroku: You're stressed, you need a backrub.

Levii: Ah yes... just what i needed...

Inu: You know he's just going to grope you?

Levii: Yeah, point being?
