Someone to Protect
Chapter 13: Someone to Protect
* Continued OFB*
The servants had been aware of the visitation of the Northern Lord and knew that it probably would not bode well, especially when they heard the loud crashes and the shatter of glass come from the master’s study. Fearfully a few had gingerly opened the door to see the mass disarray of the room and they ran to window and looked out to see the two titans battling.
Both Tiger and Dog had bloody pelts. The crimson liquid dripping in rivers to the green grass. Still the dog continued to try to dominate his enemy, oblivious to the fact that he was losing more and more of his precious life’s blood. Kubaksuru knew that Sesshoumaru had taken leave of his mind and had let his inner beast control him. Normally when he, himself was in a rage filled stage and would let loose his own beast he would not be having rational thoughts. He would be in survival mode, fight to the death, destroy at all costs. He would be much like the Sesshoumaru he faced now, but this was his godson not a true enemy.
Sesshoumaru lunged at him again, and managed to leave a gash in the neck of the huge tiger who roared with pain and brought down a huge paw across the dogs’ muzzle knocking him to the ground. Weak from blood loss Sesshoumaru tried to rise again, refusing to be defeated. Kubaksuru hissed as his injured opponent stumbled to his feet. Sesshoumaru was foaming blood and foam at the mouth and the tiger knew that this battle had to come to an end or else it would end in tragedy. Quickly he leapt into the air as Sesshoumaru dove toward him and kicked his powerful back legs, knocking the dog down and sent him crashing into a large statue.
Exhausted and defeated Sesshoumaru’s beast let him subside back into his natural form. The last thing Sesshoumaru saw was Kubaksuru’s blue eyes filled with worry and words on the base of the familiar broken statue:
“Inutaisho, Father, Friend, and Loving Master: Love conquers all despite all threats and promises of darkness.”
A few hours later Sesshoumaru awoke to find himself in his bedroom. He tried to sit up but gasped with pain and felt a firm hand guide him back down.
“You aren’t healed yet, pup.”
Sesshoumaru grimaced as he pushed Kubaksuru’s hand away. “I am no pup.” He said angrily.
Losing all patience Kubaksuru placed rough hands on Sesshoumaru’s shoulders and brought him up to his eye level. “If you aren’t a pup act like it! Or do you want another go so I can knock more sense into you?” The elder looked down at the closest thing to a son he had and his eyes softened. “Damn it boy, don’t you realize that I love you?”
Sesshoumaru gasped as he looked into the blue irises of his former teacher. “I know nothing of love.” He said as he looked away.
Kubaksuru shook his head and sunk tiredly back down into the chair close to the bed. “Why do you hate me son? I have only wanted your well being. I have never hurt you to my knowledge. Where is all this hate coming from?”
The bedridden Sesshoumaru pondered at the sudden exhaustion from the powerful Northern Lord. Then he turned his head over to the tiger and studied him. “You remind me of him. He didn’t have to die but he chose a human woman and her half-breed son over me.” Sesshoumaru paused as he thought of the curse that his brother lay in at that very moment. “Then when I needed Inuyasha most, to try to reconcile our bond he chose a human over me, his family. Now he lies suspended in a curse of sleeping death. He met the same end that my father did, all because of love.”
“Listen to me Sesshoumaru, your father loved you. He did what he had to do to ensure the future of both his sons, not just one.” Kubaksuru laid a pale hand on the bed and Sesshoumaru looked at him once more. “You are aware of the talents of my tribe aren’t you?”
He smiled as Sesshoumaru nodded slightly. “Many years before you or Inuyasha were born there was a prophecy. This prophecy was the reason why your father left that night to save the woman and child, the reason why you were entrusted to Tenseiga, and why Inuyasha was bound to the Tetsusaiga.”
Sesshoumaru listened intently to the quiet voice of the regal tiger beside him and let the whole of the prophecy absorb into his mind. “Why tell me this now? If it had been revealed earlier perhaps Inuyasha and I could have been preparing for this great corruption.”
Kubaksuru held up his hand stopping Sesshoumaru from bombarding him with accusations. “It was not time. It had been revealed to me that if you and he had come together at the wrong time the prophecy would have crumbled. He needed to go through what he has, as did you. It is for him to go through this sleep of living death for a few years, until the Goddess comes to him.”
Strangely Sesshoumaru felt a rise of jealousy emit from him. “Why should he meet her first?”
“Because he is her heart. She must teach him how to love again and wield the Tetsusaiga so that he will be the protector of man. He must learn to love her on his own, though he will be torn in two. However, you will already love her. Even now you feel in your entire soul that she is yours.” The Northern Lord watched as the emotions began to play across Sesshoumaru’s features.
“So what role am I in this? If she is mine when will I claim her?” He asked softly, golden eyes glittering at the thought of his future mate.
“You are her soul, my son. You and her will always have a special connection and because of that it will be impenetrable. You will eventually go to her and have a hand in her transformation to her true glory but, in the beginning you must help your brother. You will lead him to Tetsusaiga, help him to conquer his demon side, while doing this you must help him to become stronger and finally you must make him realize his love for her. Now the only question is do you believe me?”
“In your visions have you seen her?” Sesshoumaru asked with mild impatience.
Kubaksuru smiled at the young impatient Lord and shook his head. “I have not, I only know that you will realize when she has come to you. Now, do you believe?"
Sesshoumaru fell silent and thought about all that had been revealed to him. He thought of his father and a small smile graced his features. “I do not know if everything you have said will come to pass, but my father trusted you, and if he could then so can I.” Sesshoumaru raised his eyes to his newfound mentor and grasped his arm. “I do have someone to protect.”
