Chapter 14 Confessions

Sesshoumaru was seething. He could barely hide his anger at his mate and his brother. At any other time he would show his anger to his brother and Kagome. But with the others and a vampire coming towards him he couldn’t allow his temper to show. Wait a moment… A VAMPIRE! One of the ones responsible for Kagome’s kidnapping. She would pay for that mistake now.
*Easy boy. First I would find out why she is here. How she dares. We knew why Ciana would dare do what she did. This vampire might be an outcast.*
‘Right and I am a tame dog ready and willing to be stroked by anyone.’
*No just our Kagome.*
“Sesshoumaru,” Sasuna spoke out tentatively. “This is Dahling, the Vampire Queen.”
Baring his fangs, he growled low in warning. “So you are responsible for my mate’s abduction last night.”
“No Sesshoumaru, she isn’t. That would be me. It was my idea. Dahling was just trying to help us.”

“Sasuna. Why would you do that? Are you that conniving? Trying to take away my happiness because you must leave? What is the meaning of this?!”
“Sesshy?”
Turning toward the intricately decorated library doorway Kagome had disappeared into with Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru quirked an eyebrow at his mate inviting her to go on.
“Sasuna wasn’t the only one involved in the plot. It was not done to hurt you, or to take away your happiness. Everyone you see in this hall and Inuyasha was in on it, including me.”
“Why Kagome? Why was it done then, if not to take away everything? And how could you do that to me? Did I kill an innocent demoness last night? What is going on? I want the whole truth, everything. Understand? From all of you.”
Sesshoumaru felt as though his world were about to fall apart. His heart was starting to break he could feel it cracking and feared he would go insane if they did not tell him the whole thing soon. How could they all conspire against him like this? And if it was as Kagome said, and not to take everything away then what was it about. What if he had killed an innocent last night? Could he live with that for the rest of his life?
“I do believe I should start seeing as it begins when you ordered me to keep Ciana away from the palace while you searched her rooms. I followed her. I didn’t need to keep her away; she was going to see the vampires. I knew she was when I sensed their domain coming closer.” Sasuna whispered as if she were afraid to speak any louder.
Sesshoumaru glanced at Kagome; she had tears streaming down her beautiful face. Her eyes were pleading with him to understand.

*Oh Sesshy please understand that we didn’t want to hurt you. Please you must see that. Oh! I knew it was going to backfire!*
‘Don’t beat yourself up over it Kagome. You knew he would never agree; especially if he had known about the plan.’
*Don’t you mean PLOT! We all plotted against the one I love. How could I do that to him?*
‘As I said before do not beat yourself up about it.’
Dahling spoke up her voice stronger than Sasuna’s was. She knew they had done nothing wrong and was not afraid to tell him outright what Ciana had been planning.
“The bitch came to me, knowing that I was strong enough to kill the lady Kagome. In return for my help she would give me her lands to breed my people on. Our domain is dying; so I took her up on the offer. I threatened Ciana with death; I did not like her at all. She fled. Shortly after Sasuna came to me. We were able to tell exactly where Ciana was and we talked almost all night.”
Sasuna seemed to have been bolstered by her friend’s strength and her voice rang out as she continued the tale.
Sesshoumaru shot another look at Kagome. Her head was hanging as though she feared he would not understand. But so far he was getting the picture.
“I told Dahling that if she carried through with Ciana’s plan she would be heading to her death. Even if she were successful in killing Kagome you would make sure she died a horrible death. And Ciana knew this, and was in fact hoping for it. She listened to my plan. We couldn’t go through with it without Kagome’s consent, or the others. So when I got back, just before Ciana, I went and told the others what we needed to do. Kagome was to be the bait. Not for Ciana, but for you Sesshoumaru.”
Here Kagome jumped in, “Inuyasha did not want to agree to it until we had conversed with you. However, we knew that if you knew what was going on you wouldn’t be angry enough to kill Ciana. We needed you to be in a rage. You see if you had known you would only have banished her. So you couldn’t know. He eventually agreed. Sesshoumaru please understand. We did this to protect our future. I understand that you are angry, and you have every right to be. I am so very sorry Sesshoumaru. I am so so sorry can you ever forgive me? Sesshoumaru I-I-” Kagome stuttered to a halt. Something in the way Sesshoumaru was staring at her made her halt.
Sesshoumaru leveled a stare at his mate. He didn’t say a word. He turned his attention toward the others in turn; all had scared looks on their faces. He felt betrayed; they all claimed that there was no plot to steal his happiness from him, only one to help him have his happiness.
Inuyasha spoke up quietly from beside Kagome. “Brother please do not be angry with us. I know that you and I have had our differences; but do not let that get in the way of you and Kagome having your happiness. If you must be angry at someone be pissed at me. I should have come to you regardless of what Kagome said. But you know me, I am reckless. But forgive Kagome at least. She deserves to be happy and if that means she must be with you and she felt she had no alternative except this plan, forgive her. Sesshoumaru, think of how happy you were to have her in your arms. Remember that. I forgot it a long time ago. When I still had her. You had better not forget it, or you will lose her as well. ”
He did not care who this vampire was or what her role in this plot was, but hearing his brother; the one who refused to beg for his life while fighting; begging him not to be angry somehow calmed his inner beast. He looked at Dahling and stiffly bowed his thanks to her. Turned back to his brother and his mate and walked slowly toward them. He pulled Kagome into a tight hug. He didn’t want to let her go but he needed to let her know how worried he was when he got her out of that cave. The pieces suddenly fit together. The lack of bruises on Kagome, the many on Ciana. The barrier that only let him through around Kagome. He pulled back from her and looked into her eyes. Her very expressive eyes. And he saw how happy his acceptance made her.
Letting her go he turned toward his brother. The one who was unwilling at first to go through with this without him knowing. And it hit him; it almost made him sick. He loved his brother. He took the few steps toward him that would bring them together. And for the first time in his memory he hugged his brother. It was a short hug; as he let go a second later; but a hug nonetheless. He pulled away quickly from his brother and they looked anywhere but at each other. Both felt awkward and weird. But it had felt good to hug his brother, he might have to do that more often, but with what he had planned that might not happen.
Clearing his throat; making everyone jump out of their shock at what they had just witnessed; Sesshoumaru stood next to Kagome and made his announcement. “Inuyasha I plan to place you on the seat in the Eastern Lands. Do not fuck it up like Ciana did. Kagome is mine. You had your chance and-“
“Actually that is what we were talking about. I have let go of my past brother. Including the women in it; both of them. I have found someone who is not afraid to tell me exactly what she thinks of things. I plan on pursuing that avenue as soon as we are done here.”
Surprised Sesshoumaru looked at Inuyasha. Really looked at him for the first time that day and could tell that a load had been taken off his shoulders. “Who is this miraculous woman who did what my Kagome could not where you are concerned little puppy?”
“GRRRR! I am NOT a PUPPY! And for your information; although it is none of your business; it’s Dahling. She told me what she thought I had been doing for the past 4 years.”
“And what is that? Shunning the best woman to walk the earth for a clay pot?”
“No I was mourning a lost love. She died, Sesshoumaru, right after she sealed me to that damn tree. I didn’t get a chance to mourn her properly. And then when Kagome set me free and the fake Kikyo was brought back, I was hoping she wasn’t gone. It was as if I had the best of both worlds. Kagome so patient and kind was with me no matter what. The fake Kikyo would remind me of why I had gotten sealed to the damn tree, so I could never forget that Naraku needed to be killed. I so wanted to forget, so many times. I nearly gave up many times. Then Kikyo would come and tell me that after Naraku was killed we could be happy. I was already happy with Kagome anyway; but Kikyo, well I just don’t know. It is hard to explain Sesshoumaru. Dahling helped me see that the reason Kagome moved on was because she was tired of waiting for me to grow up. I have grown up. In just one night. I believe I am able to move on.”
Kagome started to cry. She threw her arms around Inuyasha and congratulated him. She then turned toward Dahling and gave her a big hug as well. “I just know you will see that he is happy. That is all I want you to do. Make sure Inuyasha is happy.”
Sasuna turned toward her friend. Tears in her eyes. “Sister, I do believe it is almost time for me to go. And I must talk with Kagome.”
“What do you mean ‘go’?” Dahling hissed at Sasuna; her anger evident in the way she was looking at her.
“Well I was only able to be out here while Kagome was learning how to use my powers. She is my successor and after I tell her one more thing I must be going. I won’t be far. If you look into Kagome’s eyes after I leave you will see me there. Don’t worry it won’t be like before. This time I get to say goodbye.”
Dahling looked at her sister and then to Kagome. She saw the same markings and the resemblance. She did not care for the situation, but a past agreement forced her to accept it. “I don’t like it Sasuna. But if she is the one you have chosen then so be it. We did decide that if either of us had no children of our own we would choose someone, to take over in our place when the time came. So one day will you tell me how you came about choosing this one?”
“One day we will. It will be through Kagome. But we will tell you. For now I must say goodbye to everyone else. Especially the one I couldn’t say goodbye to last time.”
“Sesshoumaru?”
Turning toward her love Sasuna looked at him and noticed a change in him. He seemed less stressed. More relaxed and dare she say, more in love? “Sesshoumaru it is time. After I talk to Kagome I will be gone. So I need to say goodbye now. And remember I am always there inside Kagome. So all of us will be together.”
“I know. But that won’t make missing you any easier. I heard you call Dahling your sister. Does that mean?”
“Yes she is my sister. Remember we demons are born to different species. Not just humans. My parents happened to be Vampires. We, meaning Dahling and I, agreed to keep that part a secret. It would have put many people out of sorts to know we were related. Since I had no children I could willingly pass my powers to someone outside of my family. I chose the only one in the future who knew I was there. And cared enough to share a life with me. She gives of herself and spares nothing. Sesshoumaru please make sure you give as much to her.”
“I will. Go finish saying your goodbyes and then you may talk with Kagome. I know I speak for everyone when I say we will miss you.”
Turning away from Sesshoumaru before he could see her tears Sasuna walked towards the rest of the group. Her time was getting shorter, but this time she would end it the way she wanted it to end.
Kagome walked to Sesshoumaru who was watching Sasuna say her goodbyes. “Did you know about Dahling and Sasuna?”
“Not until just now. But it does not matter. Not now and it would not have mattered then. You and Sasuna need to talk. I must fill my brother in on the details of the Eastern Lands.”
“Listen to you. Already calling Inuyasha your brother. How does it feel?”
“Hnn”
“I said it once and I’ll say it again. You big baby. Well got to go Sasuna is motioning me into the library. I’ll be out soon, I promise.” Standing on tiptoe Kagome pulled Sesshoumaru into a deep kiss. Letting him loose she turned away. Shooting him a wink over her shoulder she skipped to the library door.
Shaking his head Sesshoumaru looked around him for his brother. He found him standing near the vampire.
“Inuyasha there are some matters about the Eastern lands you need to know. Meet me in my office down the hall in ten minutes.”
“Yea, yea, sure whatever.”
Striding down the hall Sesshoumaru smiled. He could tell his father was smiling. And he couldn’t help but think about that long ago night when his father had gone to his death. Or what he had said.
‘Do you have someone to protect Sesshoumaru?’
“I didn’t know then, father, what you meant.” Glancing over his shoulder at the little group in the hall and at the closed door to the library. “But I think I am learning. Little by little I am learning.”

Inside the large, sunny library Kagome and Sasuna sat down across from each other at one of the many tables. Kagome waited patiently for Sasuna to begin. Sasuna was taking her time wanting to forestall the inevitable, she must leave. She had no choice. But maybe if she took her time in this she could leave later than she expected. *No, I must go back soon. Kagome needs to know about this. That last shard must be taken and the jewel must be wished upon before the month is out.*
Taking a deep breath Sasuna looked at Kagome and began.
“Kagome, this is about the Shikon no Tama. You must complete it with the last shard and wish upon it before the month is out. It must be a completely unselfish wish. Something you do not gain anything from. If you do not do this you will be forced back into your own time. I will have to leave you forever and you will never see Sesshoumaru again. You will be a normal mortal woman. Except you will carry the son of Sesshoumaru Taisho. Unfortunately you will not be able to keep him. Someone will come and take him when he is but 2 years old. I cannot tell you who. As for Sesshoumaru, when an Inu-demon loses his mate, he dies. Even if the mate is not dead.”
“So you are telling me that I will lose Sesshoumaru if I do not make a selfless wish on the complete jewel. And all of this will happen in two weeks?” Tears began falling from Kagome’s eyes. She wiped them away furiously. It wasn’t fair. Everything she had done, everything she had sacrificed, and she could lose it in two weeks. How could the Kamis be so cruel?
“I know how you feel. Kagome that is why I had to tell you. You need to listen to your heart and do what it tells you to. Your heart is the key. You are strong enough to do this. Please Kagome, be brave…” Sasuna’s voice drifted of and echoed inside the large quiet room. She had left. Kagome felt more alone than before. Suddenly standing Kagome started to pace furiously back and forth in front of the large window staring out into the forest. The she saw one of Kikyo’s soul collectors. She knew what she would wish for. When the time came she knew.
Walking to the door Kagome paused, if Inuyasha found out he would kill her. But she gained nothing from it. She didn’t even like the idea of doing this. But it felt like the right thing to do. Next she had to tell Sesshoumaru that she had to have that last shard. There was no question of letting the woman keep it. She had to have it to be with Sesshoumaru. No that was selfish; she couldn’t make a wish that would be completely selfless. No wish would be what she needed to stay with Sesshoumaru. “I guess if that is the case I should just wish to go home. Any way I look at it everything is selfish. I have to tell Sesshoumaru.”
Nodding her head once in dejection Kagome opened the door and stepped into the bright hall. Everything seemed dulled now she knew she could never be with Sesshoumaru here in this time. Kagome sighed looked up and saw Inuyasha with Dahling, Miroku with Sango, Kirara even had Ange Dechu. But she would be alone, and for two years she would have Sesshoumaru’s son; but even then someone will steal him away. It made her want to cry. Finally meeting someone and being happy only to have the Kamis steal it from her. She wanted to rail at them, she only wished that she could wrap her hands around their necks and purify them to bits. Her heart started to break. She abruptly turned toward Sesshoumaru’s study. Walking swiftly she reached the door about twenty seconds later. (A/N: A lot can happen in twenty seconds you know.)
Sesshoumaru looked up as he sensed his mate approach; she was upset about something. Standing he walked to the door and opened it finding her standing just beyond a look of sadness on her face.
“Sesshoumaru, I have to tell you something. And I find no pleasure in it.”
“Kagome what is it? Is it all that bad we were just mated last night? Are you okay?”
Walking into Sesshoumaru’s study Kagome stood at the window deep in thought. Turning to follow her Sesshoumaru closed the door and erected a barrier to keep his brother, who was late, out and no one could listen. Walking to her side Sesshoumaru put his arms around her holding her close. *What could have done this? What could have made her so sad?*
“Sesshoumaru we only have two weeks together. I have to make a selfless wish on the complete jewel in two weeks in order to stay here. But every wish I can think of would end up with me gaining something I want. Even if I were to wish to go home I would gain something. I would be able to see my family again. There is no wish that would grant me the one thing I want. I want to stay with you.”
Sesshoumaru felt his world spin out of control. This could not be happening he had just gotten her. She was HIS. No one would take her away. His arms tightened around her slim form.
“That is not all of it either. If I do have to go back I will never see you again. I will have your son but will only have him for two years after his birth. Someone will steal him away. And I will be alone again.”
At this Sesshoumaru’s eyes tinged red around the golden orbs. No one would take his son or his mate from him. Sesshoumaru suddenly released Kagome and walked to the door. Summoning Katura to the study; he turned to Kagome wrapped his arms around her he whispered in her ear.
“I will find you again Kagome. No matter what! We will be together. Always and forever.”
Just then Katura opened the door and walked in.
“You summoned me Lord Sesshoumaru?”
“Yes are you done with the sculptures?”
“Yes sire. They are all complete even the one from Sasuna.”
“Sasuna had one made for us?”
“No sire. For your Lady. And very pretty it is too. We will place it somewhere so that Lady Kagome can always have it with her.”
“Good. Katura we have dire need of your Jewel shard. Will you willingly give it up?”
“Yes sire I will. Anything to serve my Lord and his Lady.”
Kagome took a step forward, and then stopped. “Sesshoumaru draw Tensiega the moment I pull the shard out please. I know what my wish will be.”
Looking at Kagome he nodded once and got ready. Kagome walked to Katura and made sure the mortal was ready. Reaching for her shoulder Kagome pulled the Shard out at the same time Sesshoumaru pulled Tensiega and slashed at the mortal.
Katura looked stunned about being alive after the jewel was gone.
Kagome looked at Katura and requested something rather strange.
“Please give my sculpture to Lady Kaede in Edo Village. I will be sure to get it if you do.”
Nodding Sesshoumaru walked to Kagome and pulled her to him for a final kiss. Stepping away he repeated his promise to her again.
Nodding sadly without much hope Kagome made her wish.
“I wish that Katura and Rin will live the life span of a Full Demon.”
The Jewel now whole, glowed with a bright Pink Light that engulfed Kagome. When it was gone so was the Lady of the West, Kagome.

A/N: Ok. Ok I know Sesshoumaru gets a little bit sentimental and emotional. But hey a girl can still dream can’t she? At any rate, next chapter is the chapter before the finale. The epilogue is not far away my friends. We will then be able to see what effects my poor writing has had on poor Sesshy. This chapter has approx. 3,863 words without my personal note here! I feel so proud!
S: I don’t know how many times I have to ask that you not call me Sesshy. It is annoying. And you are cruel!
Get over it Sesshy! I am not cruel just unusual! Hahahaha! And evil! You must all wait for the Happily Ever After part… I know I am mean. But you all love me and you know it!
