From Goodbyes to New Adventures

Chapter 14: Gone? But You’re Here?

Inu Yasha never slowed down in his pursuit to realize that Kagome’s scent had changed.

He just had to get to her. He also wanted to get her away from his rivals. It grated at him that she was with them. Although, he had decided that it didn’t matter. The pack had accepted the protection offered.

What had really surprised him even though he didn’t have any time to think about it was that Sesshomaru had claimed what would have been rightfully his by right of inheritance.

He ran until he had almost caught up with the trio as they were breaking for the day.

He circled around them and could see Kagome curling up by herself and drifting off. He took in the sight of her happily sleeping in between his rival for her heart and his older sibling whom had only held hatred and disdain for him.

He was happy that she was safe, but the mere thought of her finding that safety with his enemies was not one that he was fond of. Well, that was about to change. He was here now and could take her back with him. He knew she couldn’t go home beyond the well, but he could give her a home here. This gave him his chance to have a life with her.

Both Sesshomaru and Koga knew that there was a demon sniffing around them and observing them. He seemed familiar, but they just couldn’t place him.

Inu Yasha finally stepped out and stared down the two demons. Sesshomaru stayed silent in his shock, even though there was no hint of it on his face.

Koga was another matter completely. His face reflected every aspect of his surprise. He allowed his eyes to take in the hallucination before them. He knew it was real from the way that Sesshomaru had tensed.

The atmosphere intruded into Kagome’s slumber, and she sat up and looked around until her eyes rested on Inu Yasha.

She was the only one to speak at that moment.

“Inu Yasha?” Her voice was barely above a whisper but loud enough to be heard by all three demons.

Inu Yasha took in her appearance. There were differences. Her scent was the same but different. It still identified her as Kagome, but it had changed to that of a demons’ with it lightness and taste of the wind and wilderness.

He stepped forward, snapping Sesshomaru out of his daze and Koga out of his shock.

Both demons stood up as well as Kagome.

“What are you doing here? You were dead,” Koga had to ask.

Inu Yasha gave him a puzzled look. The thought that he had died from that cat demon had not fully registered.

“I was buried and woke while in the ground. I came for Kagome,” he didn’t know what else to say. All he had done since digging himself out of the ground was to look for the enchanting creature before him. The one that had loved and accepted him.

He saw her as she began to shake. Her whole body trembled with escalating force.

Koga and Sesshomaru made the mistake of stepping back from her, giving Inu Yasha the open window he needed. He used his newfound demonic speed to grab her and take her away.

The chase had started.

Immediately, Koga and Sesshomaru ran off after him. They had to catch up to him and get their mate back.

Kagome, on the other hand, was still having trouble registering the fact that Inu Yasha was there. The idea that he had stolen her away from her mates had not registered.

He stopped at a clearing that had a pool of clear water. There didn’t seem to be anybody there. Setting her down gently, he drank in her very being.

Kagome looked around and realized that they were alone. She had to ask her questions.

“How are you here? Why are you a full demon?”

Inu Yasha didn’t have the answers to those questions really. He said the only thing he knew at that moment.

“I came back for you. I couldn’t stay away. I love you and missed you so. I don’t want to let you go. Why were you with Koga and Sesshomaru? I know Sesshomaru would have inherited my pack when I died, but I never thought he would have claimed more than my Tetsusaiga.”

Just then, he began to pat himself down. He had on his undergarments, but he was missing his fire rat robe and his Tetsusaiga.

Kagome realized that he was looking for the items that Koga had retrieved for her.

She blushed a little before gaining his attention once again. She also noticed that her mates were watching them closely. This was a delicate situation. Inu Yasha was a full demon now, and there was no way to predict how he would respond.

“Sesshomaru does not have your sword; I do. I also have your robes. Koga retrieved them for me for sentimental reasons. He was also the one to take care of us until Sesshomaru showed up. They both were trying to claim me and the pack.”

Inu Yasha was surprised. His hand went up to the bead and tooth necklace that had always attached them.

That was when Koga stepped forward.

“Inu Yasha. Both Sesshomaru and I mated Kagome. You know that I love her, and Sesshomaru wishes to look out for her. Neither of us were willing to relinquish our claim,” he was trying to stay calm but was having trouble.

Inu Yasha turned and looked toward the wolf demon and his brother. “She was mine first. You know what I hoped for. I am back and have claim on her now. I also need my clothes and fang back.”

Sesshomaru stepped forward at that and held out the pack that Koga had tossed to him as they began to chase this hanyou turned demon.

Kagome’s eyes got wide and her hands went to the jewel that she had around herself.

She knew then what had happened.

“Oh NO!!! This is my fault.”

All three males turned and looked at her.

“How could this be your fault Kagome? Inu Yasha was dead, and you moved on. He knows this. Both Sesshomaru and I had a claim on you. We worked it out. Now that Inu Yasha is back, he has a claim on you. We will fix what needs to be fixed, but we will not relinquish you, mate,” Koga was trying to calm her down.

“No, you don’t understand. I didn’t mean to, but I felt so lonely when you and Sesshomaru were fighting that night. I was fingering the jewel. Ya’ll know where I have had it hidden. I wished that Inu Yasha was still alive, but I didn’t really think about it. It was just a hopeful wish. One that I didn’t think about coming true.”

The entire group was astonished. Kagome did the only thing that her body would allow her to do. She ran and ran as fast as her new body would allow her.

She sped through the forest until she no longer felt the need to run.

The three males chased after her but lost her scent.

“How is this possible?” That was the question they all were asking. Sesshomaru was flying and should have been able to keep up with her from above. Koga was by far faster than her running. And, Inu Yasha knew her. Knew what to expect from her.

But, they lost her.
