To Tame a Hanyou

Hot..He was hot.

The heat woke him from sleep. Opening his eyes, he saw the dim light
of dawn coming from the window. He turned his head to see Kagome's flushed
profile. Her cheeks were a dark red and her hair was wet with sweat. She
was also shivering as if she were very cold.

Inuyasha sat up and pushed the blanket back. When he did, Kagome groaned
and moved her hands in the air but didn't wake. It was like she was
dreaming or something.

Leaning over her, he sniffed, then scrunched his nose at the smell. The scent
was not overpowering but it was not a good smell. It smelt like sickness.
Kagome was sick in some way. A strange feeling grabbed his insides, one he
had felt long ago. It was close to the same feeling when his mother had gotten
sick....and died. He didn't want Kagome to die.

He sniffed closer along her body until he came to the spot where it was
the strongest: her thigh. Not thinking, he began pushing her pants down.
Just then, Ayame came in.

It was an awkward moment. Inuyasha looked up to see the wolf youkai
standing there with mouth open and eyes wide.

"What are you doing???" She demanded.

Inuyasha retracted his hand and looked away in irritation.
"Not what you think, wolf bitch." He growled.

The wolf youkai hurried to them. "What's going on?"

Inuyasha felt his jaw tighten in anger but managed to speak. "The miko's
sick. Her leg smells."

The wolf youkai sniffed before pushing the waist band of Kagome's pants
down. Inuyasha looked back to see Kagome's pink panties and long slender
thigh. He froze when he saw the wound on her upper thigh. It was long, deep, dark
red, with a yellowish crust. The skin around the slash mark was a dark pinkish
red.

"It's infected." Ayame stated with a harsh sigh. "I saw this wound last
night but I thought it was going to heal. It must have become infected
during the night. I thought I had cleaned all the dirt out of it. Humans
get infections so easily. Don't know where she could have gotten hurt. Must
have been at that miko training of hers."

"What..what happens to humans...when they get infections?" Inuyasha asked.

Ayame placed her palm flat on the wound, feeling it. "Sometimes, if it's
bad enough, they die. This infection is bad. It smells bad. It's hot to the
touch, and Miss Kagome is asleep from the poison running through her
body. She may die."

Inuyasha jumped up out of the bed and hurried to the door. He ran to find
Kikyo. Kikyo needed to get Kagome to the human doctor!
He ran through the house, searching everywhere, but didn't find the miko.
He hurried back to Kagome's room to see Ayame kneeling by the bed, looking
Kagome over. "Where's that Miko hag?!" He growled at the wolf.

Ayame sighed. "Mistress Kikyo left in the middle of the night on an
emergency. I don't know when she'll be back."

Inuyasha felt so helpless. He needed to get Kagome help. He stood by the
bed, next to Ayame. "Can't you give her some medicine? Can't we get her some
help somehow?"

The wolf youkai looked up at Inuyasha. "You wan't to help this miko?"

Inuyasha crossed his arms and snarled. "If she dies, I'll get blamed for it! Kikyo
will kill me for her death! Can't you help her?"

Ayame stood, frowning. "Keep her warm. I have one thing that may help. I'll
be back with it in a little bit."

The wolf youkai left and Inuyasha dropped his rigid stance. For a few
moments, he looked at Kagome. She was the only one who had been nice to him
other than his mother and father. She had given him food and tried to heal him.
The young girl was now shivering, fighting fever and poison....because of him.
She didn't deserve this.

He crawled over her, cuddled up next to her overheated body,
then covered them both with the blanket.

She huddled up next to him with a low whimper.

Inuyasha shut his eyes and answered her whimper with his own. "I'm sorry."

Ayame returned some time later. Inuyasha opened his eyes to see the
wolf youkai leaning over Kagome. "She needs to drink this."

Inuyasha helped Kagome sit up some then Ayame put a wooden cup to the
girl's lips.

After a few tries, Kagome finally swallowed what Ayame was trying to
make her drink.

While he laid her back down, Ayame stood up straight, her frown
deeper than before. "It's all I have
to give her. It was made from a healing flower. The next five hours will
be the worst. The poison has to leave her system. She might...get sicker...
before she heals."

Inuyasha held Kagome close to him. "I'll watch her."

The wolf youkai left the room.

Inuyasha sighed, his throat feeling tight and his stomach turning sickly.

He whispered in her ear. "Don't die...please."
