Sacrafice
Chapter Fourteen
They ran into the courtyard to see the carnage all four men were creating. The man sat back enjoying the show. All four men were bleeding from wounds inflicted by each other. Kuwabara swore at seeing it, "He's using their jealousy and hard feelings to pit them against each other. We gotta do something. Talking to them doesn't help, I've tried. He's playing with their minds."
Sango watched Kurama's whip slid across Kuronue's leg tearing the flesh. He returned the blow by burying his sickle in the fox's. "They're going to kill each other."
"That exactly what the sick bastard wants." Kuwabara saw Yurameshi go down and barely missed losing his head.
"If we can't get through to them, then we stop it another way." Kagome took off running across the courtyard heading for the laughing man. Sango and Kuwabara were right behind her.
Kagome reached him first, his eyes widened as she went for the staff in his hand. He swore at the nerve of her. She heard a loud explosion behind her causing her to act frantically, she raked at his face. As her hand went around it she felt something sharp enter her stomach. Blood poured out her mouth as she gasped in pain.
"Kagome!" Sango watched as a tenacle came out the spear the miko through the stomach. She could see Kagome still trying to go for her target.
Kuwabara saw the girl get injured, "Let her go." He brought his sword down, tearing through the man's shoulder and upper chest. A gurgle sounded as something pierced through his neck. He fell to his knees his hands wrapping around the tenacle.
"No." Sango ran up to them, her hands went for the tenacle holding Kagome. A hand shot out and grabbed her around the neck. She was pulled into his face, his breath smelt like something dead.
"Shame you couldn't be more obediant, I would have enjoyed playing with you some more." He sent two tenacles into her shoulders causing her to cry out. She spat in his face, another was inserted into her chest.
Her head hung, her eyes closing. She could see Kagome's hand wrapping around the head of the shaft. Kagome met her eyes filled with tears. "Do it."
Kagome reached out grabbing Sango's hand with her free one as her other squeezed around the stone. The man looked down when he saw what was happening, the miko smiled up at him. "We'll see you in hell." She sent her energy into the jewel. It exploded shattering into tiny pieces.
A loud scream was heard as the power erupted in a large blast. It lasted for only a second then disappeared. The spot were the four had been was vacant.
The katana stopped a few inches from Yusuke's stomach as the room cleared. Hiei let his mind clear as he caught his breath. He took a few steps back as the boy got to his feet. He saw a tear slide down the boy's face then another. "I didn't hurt you that bad."
"Shut up! She's gone, I feel it."
He dropped the blade, it clattered on the ground. "What? That's not funny detective." Please let him be kidding. He saw the boy's shoulder begin to shake, no she couldn't be. He looked for her, there was a large crater where the man had been sitting.
"Sango," Kuronue took a few steps forward taking him to the edge of the crater. He fell to his knees, "No, it can't end like this."
"Kuronue, please tell me you feel her." Kurama couldn't move, his heart fell when the man shook his head. Tears streamed down his cheeks, he couldn't have just lost her. He refused to believe it, she had to be alive.
Hiei landed in the hole and looked around. "All three of them are gone, they died for us. We were too busy fighting each other to notice. They sacraficed themselves for us." He sneered but his voice cracked.
"Kagome, Kuwabara." Yusuke couldn't breathe as he thought about it, they were gone. The sobs filled the air but he didn't care.
Hiei felt his own eyes begin to sting as he stared at the hole. Why would she do it? Why give her life for his or Yusuke? Even the dumb idiot had done it.
Koenma looked at the four standing in front of him, it was indeed a sad day. "I'm sorry but their souls didn't come through here. We never understood the full power of the staff. It seems that when it was destroyed it not only took thier lives it took their souls. I know you were hoping to speak to them but it's not possible. I wish there was something I could do. But without their souls, my hands are tied."
They took the news like he figured they would. He would do anything to help but there was nothing he could do. He sighed in disappointment as Yusuke and Kurama broke down. He saw that Kuronue and Hiei were trying to control their emotions.
