The Better Man

Chapter Fourteen


The magic surrounded them as Rin held onto her, they landed safely in the wellhouse. Kagome was the first to head up and out. She stepped out and made sure the other girl could get up. As soon as she saw Rin hit the lip of the well, Kagome stepped outside the door. She screamed when she felt an arm go around her waist yanking her away.

Hiei had his arm around her, "Now, Yusuke."

"Right, sorry Kagome." He pointed his finger towards the wellhouse.

"NOOO!" Kagome yelled out when she saw what he was planning to do. Rin was still inside.

Rin saw someone grab her and stopped in her tracks, Kagome's scream filled the small building. What was going on? Not sure what to do, she stayed put beside the well. She took a step forward when Kagome's anguished cry came in. The sound of cracking wood filled the air a split second before everything seemed to explode around her. The blast sent her back, the fans pulsed at her side as the roof fell down.

Kagome watched in horror as the building was destroyed wood flying everywhere. The roof fell down, her power flared causing Hiei to release her. "Rin." A tear slid down her face, she couldn't have brought the girl back just to die.

"Don't cry, it was only a well." Hiei sneered.

She turned on him anger blazing in her eyes. "You asshole, I'm going to kill everyone of you if she isn't okay." She turned when the debree began to shift, a green mist was forming underneath seeping out the cracks. "Shit," She took a couple of steps back, the smell from the poison was causing her lungs to burn. The roof went flying through the air to land beside Kurama, he hissed when the mist surrounding it reached out to hit his leg.

Rin gasped in fresh air as she stood up, pushing the rest of the wood off her. Anger filled her eyes as she coughed.

Kagome couldn't believe what she was seeing, the green mist surrounded her but she seemed unaffected by it. The two fans were now in her hands transformed, they were glowing green and much larger. "Rin, you're alright."

Her eyes took in the four men standing near the miko, they had tried to kill her. She lifted a fan, it went through the air heading towards the red head. He jumped out the way to land several feet away and swore when the fan turned to head back for him.

"Rin stop, they didn't know you were in there." Kagome tried to reach her. The fan came back to rest in the girl's hand. They shrunk back to normal size and the mist disappeared. Kagome ran over to her and hugged her. "Thank the gods you are okay."

"Why did they attack you?"

"They didn't, I'm assuming they were sent here to destroy the well. They moved me out the way, they had no idea that I wouldn't be alone. You're safe so we don't have to kill them." Kagome smiled.

"I say we kill them."

"Keh," Her brow lifted as she tried not to laugh. Seems the girl had spent too much time around Sesshoumaru. "Let's not, two of them are my friends. But tell you what if the other two piss me off again, I'll let you at them."

"Promise?"

"Yeah sure." Kagome turned to see they were being stared at. "Well you did almost kill her. Come on Rin lets head inside. You four can leave now that you've destroyed my only means to returning to the past." She couldn't bring herself to be upset about it. There was no reason for her to go back anymore anyways. Everyone that she had known was dead besides the girl at her side.

Kuwabara came up to her, "So are you mad?"

"No, not really. I wouldn't have went back anyways. So you didn't accomplish anything but almost killing someone innocent."

"Oh, so is she from the past?" He looked the girl over, she was very pretty. Her long black hair fell to her waist in waves. Her features were soft and small, her large brown eyes made her look angelic.

"Yes, and thanks to you four she is now stuck here. Not that I was going to send her back anyways but now your binky sucking boss has no one to blame but himself. Thanks to you guys I don't have to worry about asking him to let her stay." Kagome smiled at him.

"Yeah I guess you have a point. Still sorry though."

"Thats okay, I'll see you at school tomorrow." Kagome turned to Hiei, "And my threat still stands."

"That is going to rot your brain." Kagome turned the television off, "Go to sleep already. It's already after ten a.m. and you havent slept any."

Rin yawned and smiled, "Yes, Kagome. Where should I sleep?"

"Go to my room, since I have to head to school. I will be back in a few hours, please don't leave the house without me. I will take you out as soon as I get back." Kagome left the house and ran down the steps. She would have to find what she'd missed these last few weeks. Hopefully she wouldn't be too far behind.

The drive to school was pleasant, only Kuwabara was waiting when she arrived. She smiled as she walked over to him. "Hello."

"Hey, I need to talk to you. Koenma sent a message by me, so don't shoot the messanger." He frowned.

"Okay, what is it?"

"He was pissed about you bringing the other girl through but he knows theres no way to send her back now. But there's rumors of an uprising in the Makai. He said to tell you that since you don't want Hiei outside watching over you that you will have to stay with atleast one of us. You and the girl."

"What? And just where the hell are we suppose to stay? I'm not staying with red, you can forget it."

"Well, I could always ask Shizuru about you two taking our extra room. I don't think she would mind. It would be better than staying at Yurameshi's. Then again Kurama has his own apartment as well." He saw her grimace and laughed.

"No thank you, fine I might consider staying with your sister but not him. I got to go, class is about to start."

"Okay, I'll call you later and let you know." He watched her walk inside.
