SUMMARY: ‘If they are who I think there from,’ she thought, ‘maybe.’ She watched Sango dart to the elevator before it closed and waved to her. The moment Sango was gone; Kagome went to the roses inhaling the intoxicating scent. A white piece of paper sticking up from the side of the vase caught her attention. This must be the note. CHAPTER 14: THE INVITATION

Inuyasha jumped over the table and landed only inches from the two of them. His youkai was fighting to be released, as Inuyasha threw a fist in Naraku’s direction.
Naraku dodge the fist quite effortlessly and with a sadistic smile on his face responded. “Temper, temper Inuyasha.” He clucked at the hot headed hanyou. ‘So, you defend her even though you don’t want her.’ Naraku mused. “Your jealousy is touching, and very amusing.”
“Keep your fuckin’ hands off of her, or die bastard!” Inuyasha shouted in a righteous fury.
The conference room was so still, that you could hear a pin drop. The tension was running high and Kagome knew that in that instant she made her mind up. If it was choosing between the two evils, pick which one you feel most comfortable with. Kagome place a hand on Inuyasha shoulder and grimaced at what she said nexted.
“I’m sure it was an accident.” Kagome said hesitantly.
Inuyasha growled at the other hanyou in pure unadulterated hate. He knew that it wasn’t an accident. ‘Accident my ass, Kags.’ he thought. ‘Naraku intentionally groped you, and now you are giving him an excuse for his actions.’ But then it hit him in the gut, Kagome was trying to give him an out for almost clobbering Naraku. She was trying to save him from making a total ass of himself. Her eyes told him to please drop it; even through she knew his intentions weren’t innocent. Inuyasha turned away and walked back to his chair and seated himself.
Naraku followed suit.
“Now, to get this meeting under way. I propose…” was all Kagome heard when shut her door of the conference room as quietly as she could. But she spared a quick glance back into the room, and silently implored Inuyasha to look at her. But, to no avail he did not. He was lost in his thoughts of the meeting and saving his company, however; Naraku turned to look at her and gave her a heated look filled with vulgar lust. Kagome swiftly shut the door and leaned her body against the door and heaved a heavy sigh. Her demeanor was now unnerved.
Kagome didn’t know how long she had been leaning against the door, but she heard Inuyasha start yelling. She couldn’t make anything out, however; but Kagome was sure whatever they were discussing couldn’t be good if Inuyasha lost it already. Tears came to her eyes. ‘Why? Why must I be so emotional?’ She chastised herself.
“Kags, are you down there?” Sango’s voice carried down the hallway. “You received a bouquet of roses with a card.”
Kagome tried to compose herself as best she could before seeing Sango. Yet, her friend’s eyes were glued to the twenty-four purple roses in a beautiful detailed crystal vase in her hands to even notice Kagome’s red eyes.
“There beautiful, Sango.” She whispered, as she drew near her best friend. ‘But thought who are they from?’ Kagome thought solemnly.
“Damn, you must have impressed someone with your show Friday night.” Sango teased. “There is a card in the flowers too.” Sango noticed Kagome’s attitude wasn’t bubbling over in joy at the beautiful roses. “Kags?” Sango now looked at her. “Is there something you didn’t tell me?”
“Like what?” Kagome responded in an annoyed tone.
“Like what you say! Like when you meet this new boyfriend; who is sending you these flowers! There stunning! So, spill it Kags.” To emphasize her point, Sango set the rose down on the desk and crossed her arm in front of her chest.
“I don’t know Sango.” Kagome lied. “I’m clueless as to who sent them to me.” She noticed that Sango looked like she didn’t believe one, single word, so Kagome tried a new approach; one to smooth things over, carefully. “Honestly, Sango don’t you think I’d tell you something that important?” Kagome said exasperatedly, while mirroring Sango’s body language.
’Uh, oh,’ thought Sango. “I sorry, Kags.”
“Sango, there is a phone call for you on line three. They said it was urgent.” A young woman, who Kagome recognized as Sango’s office assistant, peered out of the elevator.
“Hey Kags,” Sango looked at her best friend with a worried frown on her face. “Are you going to let me know who they’re from, right?”
Kagome nodded. ‘If they are from who I think there from,’ she thought. ‘Maybe.’ Kagome watched Sango dart to the elevator before it closed, and waved to her. The moment Sango was gone, Kagome went directly to the roses inhaling the intoxicating scent. A white piece of paper sticking up from the side of the vase caught her attention. ‘This must be the note.’ She hands went to it and opened the sealed card. Inside was beautiful hand writing in black with a gold seal embossed on it of a family crest.

Kagome shook her head at the note. ‘It’s just like him to finish a request with a command, but then he commanded attention.’
