Renshi's Arrival
Disclaimer: Yeah... 'bout that... I've been saying this from the beginning... I don't own InuYasha... although I do have a Sessho figurine and a Sessho pin... And a Sessho themed Desktop! Other than that... I own nothing... save those of my own creationy goodness.
Chapter 13: Renshi's Arrival
~*~*~*~
He was curious as to why the guard was so immense, having only recently arrived to the gathering. Not since Ryokoutsei had there been so many defenses used. This peaked his curiosity and he moved inside, only to be escorted to the Great Hall by a servant. There, Lord Inari and the other four taiyoukai and their mates sat at high tables, the unmated princes and princess along with the retainers at the second level, and their vassals sitting at lower tables. His emerald colored, cats eyes widened as he saw Sesshomaru sitting with a beautiful white kitsune female, both still freshly radiating the mating magic. He smirked at this and moved forward as the servant announced him.
“Prince Renshi, of the Southern Lands,” the red kitsune announced.
All eyes alighted to his armored form, he having only recently come from a border victory. He bowed to the lords, his black hair falling about his shoulders as he did so. He then stood upright and looked to Lord Inari. “I apologize for my tardiness, but there was an incursion on our lands by the abomination, Naraku.”
Inari nodded as Hisho stiffened and looked to Renshi. “You were victorious?” Hisho asked.
“Hai, but I fear the despised hanyou was merely testing our abilities to defend ourselves.”
“I’m not surprised,” InuYasha snorted.
Renshi turned to the hanyou prince and smiled. “Well, well, well, InuYasha, nice to see your manners haven’t improved since last we saw one another.”
“He is working on it, Renshi, do not tease him,” Tsaisuki snapped.
Renshi looked to where she sat with a monk just below Sesshomaru and the white kitsune. “Tsaisuki, you were always rash to protect the pup. May I inquire as to why you sit below Sesshomaru? I had heard you had become retainer to Inari’s heir.”
“I am. May I introduce, Lady Kagome, heir to the East and, most recently, the Lady of the Western Lands,” Tsaisuki said as she motioned gracefully to the white kitsune beside Sesshomaru.
Renshi smiled and bowed to the beautiful lady. “My lady, anyone that can manage to mate Sesshomaru, and have him radiate such contentment, is truly worthy of the title: Great Lady of the West.”
Kagome giggled and smiled. “Arigato, Prince Renshi.”
Renshi bowed his head to her once again and nodded to Sesshomaru. “Congratulations, my old friend.”
Sesshomaru said nothing as he returned the nod. Renshi had been the third to the trio he and Tsaisuki had been a part of. They had terrorized their respected countryside’s and had proven to be powerful indeed in their adulthood. Sesshomaru had become the Great Taiyoukai of the West, Tsaisuki had become High Sorceress of the East, and Renshi was the Grand General of the armies of the South. Each possessed a confident arrogance that came with their immense powers, and had proven to deserve such arrogance and to be feared in battle. They had all grown up together and now would stand together with the other three lords against Naraku.
Inari smiled to the armored tiger youkai. “We shall be meeting in my war room within an hour to speak of our strategies against Naraku. A servant shall escort you to your room and you can prepare.”
Renshi bowed low to Inari and the other lords as a servant appeared behind him. “I shall, arigato, my lord.”

Days passed and the plans for Naraku’s demise began to take shape. Renshi had proven to be a strategic genius and a great asset to the group. The dark haired tiger youkai now sat in the gardens, watching Rin and Shippo play with some of Inari’s younger children.
“I recall a time when we were so free to torture our caretakers and retainers,” Tsaisuki’s calming voice said as she sat beside him, her black kimono folding beneath her with her own effortless grace. She moved slightly, tucking a blue strand of hair behind a pointed ear as she stared out at the children.
“Hai, the three of us gave Jaken and Hitode nightmares,” Renshi chuckled.
“As I recall, it was you two, not I that caused them nightmares,” Sesshomaru’s cool voice interjected as the taiyoukai took a seat on the other side of the tiger kitsune and Kagome appeared among the children, playing with them as the other three youkai watched on.
“Your mate will make a fine mother,” Renshi complimented.
“Hai, she has a kind heart and is protective of those she loves,” Tsaisuki added.
Sesshomaru said nothing and merely smirked as Rin tackled the white kitsune-miko into the grass.
“Anyways, you cannot say that you were innocent in our youth, Sesshomaru. I recall many a time when you were the soul perpetrator of a prank on that imp you allow to still follow you,” Renshi teased.
“This Sesshomaru knows nothing of what you speak,” the taiyoukai grumbled.
“Liar,” Tsaisuki teased. “We are not fools, Sesshomaru, we were there.”
“Hai, and apparently you and the cat have twisted your memories,” Sesshomaru said as he rolled his eyes.
“Well, we could always ask Yasha… he was always hanging around us then. He and Micha,” Tsaisuki pondered aloud.
“My brother has been bludgeoned on the head far too many times to recall what he ate for breakfast this morn. What makes you think he would recall so long ago?” Sesshomaru asked.
“He is busy with his intended anyways,” Renshi added.
Tsaisuki pouted to the two males. “Why is it that you always side with him in the end, Renshi?”
Renshi laughed at her childish face. “Because it would foolish not to. Only you and his mate are safe from the inu youkai’s wrath.”
Sesshomaru shot Tsaisuki a playful smirk before returning to his usual stoicism. “Go find your consort, Tsaisuki, perhaps he can sooth your wounded pride.”
Renshi raised a brow to the cerulean haired kitsune. “You have taken a consort?”
Tsaisuki nodded. “Hai, you have met him. Miroku.”
“The human monk?” he asked. “But what about the Sorcerers? Do they not require a full-blooded youkai?”
Tsaisuki nodded and sighed. “Hai, they do.”
“What will you do?” Sesshomaru asked.
“I have discussed this with Miroku, and we have agreed that I will take a youkai consort as well. The only problem is that most youkai would not wish to be a consort and risk so low a rank in society.”
Renshi shrugged. “Most youkai males are fools, and not ambitious enough to make their own rank before mating and depend on mating well.”
“Renshi is correct. Just find a suitable and willing male that already has a high reputation,” Sesshomaru said frankly.
“Miroku is an understanding human to allow this,” Renshi said. “If it were I, we would have to find another way. I could never share yo-a female,” he corrected himself quickly, hoping that the others would not catch his slip.
Unfortunately, they didn’t. “So, my suspicions were correct,” Sesshomaru said with a slight knowing smirk.
“Renshi… did you just say…” Tsaisuki began.
The tiger youkai sighed and stood, his hair shadowing his eyes and expression. He said nothing as he turned and vanished from their sight.

It had been the last summer before they would be sent off to their own separate schoolings. InuYasha and a small tiger youkai chased one another through the gardens of the Western palace as the trio sat beneath a sakura tree. Renshi, dressed in a golden hakama and haori bearing the Southern crest, sprawled amongst the boughs, his claws moving out as he plucked ripe fruit off the branches above his head. Tsaisuki sat beneath him, dressed in a simple kimono of grey, kept her sharp eyes on the smaller children as Sesshomaru, garbed in his usual white haori and hakama, sat beside her, his eyes seemingly trained on the book in his hands, but straying to InuYasha periodically.
“I wish this season would never end,” Renshi sighed.
“Hai, by this time next year, we shall all be in training,” Tsaisuki nodded.
“This Sesshomaru is not worried,” the inu-youkai added.
“You are never worried,” Renshi commented.
It was then that InuYasha dashed behind Tsaisuki, his small form garbed in bright red, his face twisted into a jovial smile as he made himself comfortable in Tsaisuki’s lap. “I win!” he cried, showing off a large, gap-toothed grin to the tiger youkai that had been chasing him.
The small tiger pouted, his dress and appearance like Renshi. “Cheater! You always run to her first!”
Tsaisuki giggled as she petted the inu-hanyou’s ears and listened to him purr in response. Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and turned back to his book as the young tiger complained. Renshi growled to the tiger standing below him and spat a cherry pit at him.
“Hey!” the boy cried.
“Don’t be such a baby, Micha. You’ll bring shame upon our father!” Renshi snapped.
Micha pouted some more as he curled up beside the azure colored kitsune. InuYasha already lay asleep in her lap as the young tiger drifted off. Tsaisuki smiled gently and wrapped an arm about the little youkai, allowing him to pillow his head against her thigh as he too drifted off into the land of dreams.
“I wish things could always be this way,” she sighed softly.
“As do I,” Renshi agreed.
“Hai,” Sesshomaru nodded as he graced Tsaisuki with a rare smile and placed a hand on his little brother’s head, his claws gently petting the pup’s hair as a rain of blossoms flew through the air and about them.
