~*~Chapter 14—First Day~*~


~Mrs. Higurashi’s POV~

I was sweeping the yard when I saw a blue light flash in the well house. Knowing it was Kagome, I continued my sweeping and waited for my daughter to come out. The doors of the well house opened—and well, imagine my surprise at seeing my daughter in that dog boy’s arms! They never appeared like that before, so what’s going on? My maternal instincts are kicking in, but I just can’t help but notice how cute they looked together!

They must’ve noticed that I was standing there, broomstick on hand as I gaped at them. My daughter jumped down fast from Inuyasha’s arms. Wait… am I seeing them blush!? Luckily, I was quick to recover. I flashed them both a smile as I called out to Kagome.

“Okaeri, Kagome,”

“Tadaima, Mama!” Kagome replied as she looked at Inuyasha. He was rolling his eyes at her, as though telling her something. When my daughter refused to budge, I saw him let out a sigh and took her hand in his to drag her towards me.

The moment I saw their hands link, it was as if an epiphany went off in my head: They’re going to tell me they’re sweethearts! Oh, I can’t help but smile largely at the thought. Finally, Inuyasha came around to telling my baby he loved her! I led the way into the house and sat them down at the kitchen. Souta is still in school and Jii-chan’s at the shrine, probably chasing the cat.

I hummed to myself as I made them snack: ramen for Inuyasha because I know it’s his favorite, and ocha and biscuits for Kagome and me. Oh, I feel so happy for my baby. I know that she has feelings for this young…man, and I’m glad he returns it. I can’t stop myself from looking at them as we ate. They look so comfy together. Probably because of the almost three years my daughter spent with him. I even find it cute when Kagome’s glaring at him and he’s oblivious to everything but the ramen. He’s such an adorable puppy. I remember the first time I saw him, and all I could think about was touching that cute fluffy ears of his. It must be why my daughter finds him irresistible too. After all, she’s her mother’s daughter. :D

After the meal, Kagome began fidgeting in her chair while Inuyasha had his arms crossed across his chest, his eyes moving from me to Kagome and back again. I hid my knowing smile behind my teacup. They’re probably nervous of how they’ll tell me. Kagome finally got her courage back. She took in a deep breath and said:

“Mama, we have something to tell you,”

Taking pity on them and hoping to spare them the ordeal and embarrassment, I held up my hand to stop he
“I
“I already know, Kagome,” I said smugly as I put my cup down. I had to chuckle at the sight before me. Two pair of eyes went as round as saucers and two jaws almost dropping to the floor. They looked at each other and looked back at me at the same time.

“You—You know!?” They both said in unison, still in disbelief.

“Of course I know! You’re both too obvious. I wasn’t born yesterday, dear. And I’m so happy for you! I approve, so you don’t have to worry,” I reassured them both as I took another sip of my tea.

“Mama,” Kagome said, obviously in distress. “What EXACTLY do you think we’re going to tell you?”

“Well—that Inuyasha’s now you’re boyfriend, dear,” I said calmly as I raised the cup to my lips once again. Really, teens can be a little dense sometimes.

“Oh Mama,” Kagome wailed. “That’s not the half of it—Inuyasha and I are now mated!” My daughter exclaimed.

I was sipping my tea at the time and the fluid went out of my mouth to land on Inuyasha’s face.

“Oh I’m so sorry, Inuyasha. Here,” I apologized and handed him a napkin almost automatically. Then my daughter’s words seemed to echo in my head. I put my cup down with a bang and braced andsands on the table before me.

“Mated!?” I shrieked. “What does that mean!?”

Inuyasha’s ears went flat to his head and my daughter clapped her hands to her ears. I know I was shouting, but for heaven’s sake, I think I’m entitled!

“Its…umm…I…uh…he…” My daughter stammered, seeming not to find the words to explain.

I raised an eyebrow at them as I tried to calm my racing heartbeat. It better not be what I am thinking…

“Well… Mama, we’re now married in demon custom. See,” My daughter finally said as she showed me a bite mark in her neck and Inuyasha moved his shirt aside to reveal something red on his too.

What’s happening!?

“Are you two biting each other now!?” I can’t help but shout at them again.

Then I remembered Jii-chan saying something about demon’s markings.

“GOOD GOD, DOES THIS MEAN YOU’RE NOT A VIRGIN ANY LONGER!?” I screamed at my daughter right before I fainted…


~Kagome’s POV~

My ears are ringing and I’m sure Inuyasha’s are too after all the yelling Mama gave us. I gasped in horror as I saw Mama faint, going down fast. It’s a good thing Inuyasha’s faster. He caught her before she fell. I motioned him to the living room; fluffing up a pillow in the couch so he can lay Mama down.

Suddenyl, Jii-chan and Souta came crashing through the front door, slamming it open. It s the they heard Mama’s shouting and ran as fast as they could get here.

“What is it? Who’s not a virgin any longer?” Jii-chan practically shouted too as he covered Souta’s ears to keep him from hearing.

Souta began to struggle against Jii-chan’s hold when he saw Inuyasha and his eyes lit up. That is, until he saw Mama unconscious in Inuyasha’s arms.

“Mama!” Souta came running to Inuyasha, urging my mate to put down our mother. Now Jii-chan’s on a panic.

“Kagome! What happened to your mother? Oh, Kami,” Suddenly, he turned towards my hanyou.

“You! You demon! What did you do?!” Jii-chan said dramatically as he readied his scrolls.

My mate was rolling his eyes in exasperation as he gently placed my mom on the couch.

“I didn’t do anything,”

Just then, mom opened her eyes and tears welled up from her eyes.

“My baby,” Mama tearfully said as I ran to her, crying.

The males were all looking at us, strangely. They probably think we’ve lost our minds. But at the time, Mom and I didn’t care.

“Inu no onisan,” I heard Souta whispering to Inuyasha.

“Nani?” Inuyasha whispered back.

“Do you think it’s one of those days for them?”

“What do you mean, one of those days?”

“You know… the PMS and everything?”

Now I see my hanyou turning red as he clamped his hand over my brother’s mouth. Jii-chan made his way towards us and asked mom if she was okay and what happened, all the while clutching his prayer beads and the sacred warding in his hand.

“Oh, Jii-chan,” Mama wailed into Jii-chan’s arms.

“There, there Okasan. Everything’s all right now,”

“Waah!” Mama continued crying, while Jii-chan and I tried to console her.

“Kagome—“

“What about Kagome?” Jii-chan said curiously as Souta and Inuyasha went closer to watch.

“Kagome—Kagome’s married!” Mom said as she burst into tears again.

“WHAT!? To whom? She hasn’t been home long enough for that Hojo to court her, much more propose to her without asking for her hand. Thatmposmpossible,” Jii-chan said as he pondered my possible groom. And left him with one, and ONLY one, likely answer…

“Oh Almighty God! It cannot be YOU!” Jii-chan said as he pointed his finger at Inuyasha. Since mom was clutching onto me after being released by Jii-chan, he’ll have to fight his way around this on his own…

“I cannot believe this! My granddaughter, married to a…a…a demon!? What would our ancestors think?! And to think you’re the next miko, Kagome,” Jii-chan lamented as he prepared to throw the warding at Inuyasha.

“But don’t despair, Okasan. I will rid us of this demon! Through my powers, you shall be purified into nothingness!” He screamed at my mate, throwing the warding at Inuyasha. He closed his eyes in concentration, raising the prayer beads in his hands and muttering something under his breath. He opened his eyes, fully expecting my hanyou to disappear. His eyes bulged in their sockets as he saw Inuyasha still standing there, the warding in front of his face, arms crossed in chest in a decidedly pissed fashion.

“But—but—“

“I told you before, old man! These things don’t work on me! Especially with you casting them. Priest, my ass,” Inuyasha grumbled the last under his breath. But I heard!

“Inuyasha! Osuwari!!!”

Inuyasha flopped down on the carpet, head first. Jii-chan is still upset over the spell not working.

“Oh well. If the spell won’t work, then I guess the cat would have to do. Take this, you demon spawn!” Jii-chan wasn’t daunted. He threw Buyo towards Inuyasha, making my cat claw at him and meow in surprise.

“ITAIIIII!!!” Inuyasha managed to yell, although it was a bit muffled.

However, my whole attention is focused on Mama. I cannot believe she’s against this…

“Oh Mama, have I disappointed you?” My lips were quivering as I asked her. Inuyasha quickly got back to his feet, watching us nervously. Mom was still crying…

“Oh, baby. Of course not!” She shook her head vehemently.

“Then why are you crying like that?” Souta asked.

“Because I’m happy. Kagome’s married! And to Inuyasha too! This is great news!” Mama said as she hugged me and Inuyasha, still crying.


~Inuyasha’s POV~

It’s now dinnertime. The old man, the kid and me were left downstairs as Kagome and her “Mama” went up to talk. I wanted to follow, but they shut the door in my face. So I went back down to find the old man still glaring at me as though I’ve ruined his precious granddaughter and the kid still making those eyes at me. We were sitting at the kitchen table staring at one another. Then I heard their voices…

“Are you sure you’re not upset, Mom?”

“Of course not Kagome! It was just— well, I was in shock you know. I still think of you as my little girl and finding out you’re now ‘mated’—it was a shock, but a good one at that. I can’t ask for anything more from my son-in-law. You’re just like me, choosing the right one,”

I heard Kagome’s mother say faintly and was followed by

“Oh Mama,” Now I see them hugging each other. Well, at least her mom’s not disgusted by the fact that I’M her SON-IN-LAW. The kid started tugging on my pants.

“What?” I glanced down at him.

“Inu no oniichane yoe you really married to my sister?”

“Yup. Mated, married, whatever,”

“Then that means you’re my REAL brother now?” Souta asked, in awe.

“Umm, I guess so,” the old man was giving me dirty looks.

“COOL!” the kid was jumping up and down, and I couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm. At least someone thinks I’m “cool”…

I was finally allowed upstairs. Kagome’s mom is now insisting I call her “Mama” too. I was getting embarrassed by the idea, but since she won’t leave me and my mate alone, I forced myself to say it. She beamed like at me and kissed me on the cheek. Then she went down after announcing that dinner would be ready shortly.

My mate was sitting on her bed, staring at space. I sit close to her and pulled her against me.

“Well, what do you think?”

“Of what?”

“Of my family. Of your first day here. Not bad, huh?”

I thought of her Mom yelling at us then crying like a banshee; her kid brother stalking me; her grandpa thinking me the lowest scum on earth for mating with her…all the tortures I’ve gone through…

“Yup. Not bad at all. I can’t wait for the next experience,” I told her drolly. My mate’s eyes met mine and we can’t hold back the laughter any longer, so we laughed ‘till we had tears in our eyes.

Kagome wrestled me onto her bed, with her on top. She leaned down on me as if to kiss me but whispered,

“You’ve got a whole week ahead of you. Think of what could get worse than this,”

Then kissed me as though making a promise. I probably should’ve been afraid of that…
