Chapter 135: Saying Goodbye

Title: Saying Goodbye

Prompt and Word Count: Regal-421

Characters: Bankotsu and Jakotsu

Summary: Part 135 of The Seven: Wanted Dead or Alive.

Prompt Summary: The trio arrives in the town where Jakotsu will be staying.

A few days later found the group arriving at a small town not unlike the countless other towns in the area. Nothing from the inn to the general store, the church to the post seemed out of the ordinary to explain to Jakotsu why they had chosen to stop there. The decision became obvious as the two of them had begun dismounting without a word.

As he glanced around once more, he soon realized that it was not what was there that stood out from the other towns, but what wasn't there. This town housed no jail or sheriff's office. Certain that was the reason they picked this town, Jakotsu forgot about his questions for now and glanced around once more.

Though it was a small town with little to see, the men were no less sturdy, sun-kissed workers, the women no less pale and dainty; regal in their step. For a moment, he tried to remember how long it had been since he was able to wear his own flowing gown, but quickly dismissed the thought as Renkotsu started walking toward the inn. About to follow him, Jakotsu was a bit surprised when Bankotsu started pulling him by the wrist.

Curious, but willing to let it play out, Jakotsu allowed himself to he led away from the horses to a small opening in between two buildings. Though it was only midday outside, the overlapping roofs above them bathed them in darkness; causing Jakotsu to barely be able to see the man standing only a foot from him.

Even without him saying anything, it was not hard for Jakotsu to figure out they were there to say goodbye. "Renkotsu is getting a single room for the next week. This is as far as you can go for this part of the journey."

Though it was obvious he wasn't finished, Jakotsu could tell Bankotsu was having as much problem as him with saying goodbye and decided to lighten the mood for both their sakes. "You know, you still have yet to follow through with what you said you would once the cattle drive was over," he reminded him with an exaggerated pout.

"You can rest assured I will make good on that promise the moment we have some time alone," Bankotsu assured him before pulling him deeper into the shadows when voices could be heard nearby. Before Jakotsu could question his actions, he found himself pressed up against the hard wall of the building behind him; Bankotsu's lips pressed up against his.
