Characters: Jakotsu, Bankotsu and Renkotsu
Summary: Part 133 of The Seven: Wanted Dead or Alive.
Prompt Summary: Jakotsu grows annoyed that the two of them seem to be keeping something from him.
The first two days of them traveling together passed without a problem; each considering of the same schedule. They awoke before dawn, broke their fast and than rode until long after dark; barely even stopping for their midday meal. Though uneventful, the two days were long and tiring, but Jakotsu did not really mind sacrificing his sleep much. It was only the fact that he did not really know where he was going that annoyed him about the trip.
That and not being able to dress more comfortably, deciding to stick to his more masculine clothes while the third wheel was around. Turning his mind from the clothes he was wearing, knowing it would only remind him of how uncomfortable he was currently, Jakotsu turned his attention back to where they were going. All Renkotsu had really said about it was that it was a mining camp run by someone who worked for Onigumo.
That honestly told them nothing. Was the camp still operational? Did he depart on good enough terms that they would welcome him back if he suddenly showed up? Did he cause problems before he left? Perhaps started a fire to get back at them for something he took offense to? Were they walking back into the waiting arms of allies or walking into a trap of enemies?
He had tried questioning Renkotsu about it, but had simply gotten useless answers that told him nothing in response. When asked if he parted on good terms, he simply responded that it was time for him to move on from that job. When asked if they had parted as allies he had replied that they were some pretty decent guys. Which may sound like it answers the question at first, but it really doesn't.
If they had been decent guys, but he had not been, things could have easily ended badly. But their conversations continued to go on like this for two days and Jakotsu soon found himself far more confused than when they had started out together. He had even tried bringing it up to Bankotsu once, but he had basically been told that he was reading too much into it.
Though there was a lot Jakotsu did not know at that moment, there was one thing he was completely sure about. Either Bankotsu trusted Renkotsu completely, which Jakotsu wasn't too sure about, or he knew what was waiting for them and had simple decided not to let him in on that information.
The more he thought about it, the longer he watched the two of them talking up ahead too quietly for him to hear, the more Jakotsu knew he had his answer. Bankotsu had been told what was going on, but for some unknown reason, he had decided not to inform Jakotsu about it.
