Chapter 130: Jakotsu's concern

Title: Jakotsu's concern

Prompt and Word Count: mortality-353

Characters: Jakotsu and Bankotsu

Summary: Part 130 of The Seven: Wanted Dead or Alive.

Prompt Summary: Jakotsu questions Bankotsu about Renkotsu.

Won first place for prompt!

More than a little bit confused, Jakotsu could only sit there silently as he stared at Renkotsu's back trying to figure out why he thought they were looking for information. His next words both explained things and made them far more complicated in Jakotsu's opinion. “It was a little known fact that the mine we were working was owned by Onigumo. Needless to say, I never actually met the man myself, but the foremen used to talk about getting the chance to meet him once whenever he drank too much.”

Now thoroughly stunned for this stranger to know that Bankotsu had even heard of the man, let alone was looking for anyone with a connection to him, Jakotsu decided it was time to get to the bottom of this; politeness be damned. “Bankotsu, can I speak to you for a moment?” Jakotsu questioned eve as he stopped his horse without waiting for him to respond. When both of the other riders stopped and turned back to him, Jakotsu added, “Alone?” while looking pointedly at Renkotsu. Looking to Bankotsu for confirmation, Renkotsu waited until he had nodded his head in agreement before shrugging his shoulders and riding off a bit ahead of them.

Though he made sure to be out of hearing range for normal speaking voices, he made sure he was still in range to hear them should either of them scream. This wasn't exactly the best of places to take a break, unless of course their goal was to prove their mortality by becoming bait for bandits who no doubt carried guns. Though not really concerned about said bandits at that moment, Jakotsu still made certain to keep an eye out on their surroundings even as he voiced his concern to Bankotsu.

“Are you sure it is wise for some stranger to know the name of the man you are after? What if he was working for him and leading you into a trap?” Jakotsu demanded and though the two of them weren't really long from being strangers either, it never crossed either of their minds to bring up this fact.
