Four walls felt as though they were closing in,
around the man who had been locked within.
This man without a single next of kin,
as though he had committed any sin.
Tossed inside and locked away with a grin,
his time behind bars fated to begin.
Locked up he had been without gun or hat,
as his one guard lounge around getting fat.
Within his four walls he stood, never sat,
as there was no sitting without a mat.
Within his cell, a window he stared at,
built in the only wall completely flat.
His life was fated to be ended young,
for in the morning he was to be hung.
After that moment he would hold his tongue,
the rest of his tale would be left unsung.
To nothing in life had he ever clung,
nor would he to the dead he was among.
His life unkempt would end in disarray,
next time, he would be living for today.
