Chap 13. The repairing kit

“Aren’t you ready, yet?” The brunette girl kept pacing and biting her nails.

“Sango, will you be quiet? You are making me nervous. Besides, I need to finish this letter and have it sent today. Then we can leave.” Kagome sighed for the umpteenth time; if she didn’t know any better, she would think Sango was the one going to the party tonight. “Why are you so nervous; I’ll be the one dealing with those cold fishes?”

“Higurashi! Isn’t that letter ready?” Kagome rolled her eyes, speaking of cold fishes.

“Yes Sesshomaru, just give me five more minutes to read it again to make sure it is right and has all the information. You know, they are going to love the raffle tonight, and the winner gets this nice trip to Fiji for a week staying in one of our hotels full board for free. Don’t you think so?”

She never got to know, even less hear, his opinion about the whole thing because he had turned his back and was heading for his office. Sango scowled, “What a prick! How do you stand him?”

“Well, I just don’t let his cold and distant attitude affect me. Now, let me finish, and we are ready to go to see Jak.” Sango completely forgot about the whole incident with Sesshomaru and sat down, struggling not to steal glances at her watch and make her friend nervous. Instead, she focused her attention on her friend’s leaning head. While sitting in a chair on the opposite side of the room from Kagome’s desk, Sango had her legs crossed, her top leg bouncing nervously was the only sign she was even alive.

A few moments later, Kagome raised her head, sending her friend a victory look. Sango jumped off her chair as if a certain someone had been fondling her back side, but with a huge smile spread across her face instead of a scowl. She grabbed her purse and jacket, and both girls exited the office. On her way out, Kagome stopped at Koga’s office.

“Hey Koga!” The man stood up and went around his desk to approach his friend and the other girl, Sango was her name, if he remembered correctly.

“So, are you going home so soon?”

“Well, I want to cause a good impression tonight, so I want to look the best way possible.”

Koga held her hands in his and kissed them. “You don’t need to do anything; you are beautiful just like you are.”

“Awww!” Kagome and Koga turned to look at Sango with questioning eyes.

“Sango? What was that?”

Sango blushed “Sorry! Did I say it out loud?” Koga raised a brow and Sango blushed a deeper red “I’m sorry. I just thought that was cute. I don’t have anyone holding my hands!”

Koga kissed Kagome on the cheek and released her hands. “See you tonight sweet heart.” “Bye Koga!” She then stopped by Sesshomaru’s office.

“I’m leaving Sesshomaru. The letter is done, I have it with me and I’ll bring it tonight. See you later.” He barely noticed her, only acknowledging her with a dismissive, “Hn” before returning back to his work.

They both exited the building, a happy Kagome and a fuming Sango. “The nerve of that man!” Kagome stopped and looked astonishingly at Sango.

“What is it Sango?”

“How do you stand him? The cold bastard! Who does he think he is?”

“Pay no attention to his moods. Don’t let them get to you. Besides, we have better things to do.” She winked at her fuming friend. Sango relaxed and managed to show a small smile.

Sango parked the car by a building in the centre of town, before a place none of them had ever been to.

“This is the address Jak gave me, but I don’t see any hairdresser’s around.” Sango said pulling her lower lip with her fingers.

“Perhaps we should check the address. It could be the right one.” Her friend nodded.

They both exited the car and headed for the building in front of them; they knocked on the door and waited patiently.

Soon the door was flung open revealing a…

The screeching sound coming from the owner of the house made it impossible for the girls standing outside to keep their eyes opened, and their hands automatically covered their ears.

Suddenly their lungs were deprived of oxygen as they were both pressed together as strong arms gathered them in a warm embrace. The screeching sound continued, but now seemingly articulating words they could not understand.

To their relief and the health of their hearing, the awfully acute sound ceased, but the dizziness they felt did not. The air returned fully to their lungs as the pressure that kept them stuck together diminished, and a concerned voice made some understandable words.

“Girls! Are you all right?”

Sango was the first one able to open her eyes and focus on something and at the same time she recognized the person before her, she lowered her hands covering her ears and with an unsure voice said.

“Jak?”

Kagome soon mimicking her friend’s actions, blinked in astonishment. What a voice he had! She didn’t remember him being so loud before. And his looks? What about those leopard pants!? And all the feathers adorning his shirt? And did he have short, curly white hair before? Why did he have his pinkie finger pointing up all the time?

“Sorry about that. I was so happy to see you again after so long that I couldn’t contain myself.” The poor man was so ashamed he had lost his loud attitude.

“Don’t worry about it, Jak.” Sango and Kagome were giving their friend a bear hug that he returned fiercely.

“Well, girls, we have a lot of catching up to do.” His eyes twinkled. “Right, Kagome?” Jakotsu put his arm around Kagome’s and Sango’s backs and brought them inside his home while he closed the door with a kick. “But for now, we have a lot of work to do. Let’s get to it.” Both girls nodded.

“Now, be a good girl and follow me” Kagome looked at him warily and Jak laughed at her antics. “Here lays the best kept secret of my family.” He gave both girls a mysterious look. “I will ask you to keep it a secret as well.”

He opened a door and let them inside a room that had a table and a chair as its only furniture. The two girls looked astonished at the scarcely decorated room and then at their guest. Jak laughed.

“Now, in the closet in front of you I keep what I call The Repairing Kit. It contains products and recipes for beauty that have been in my family for centuries. I will use some on you, Kagome, and you tell me if they worked.” The girl could only nod at all the information she was being given.

“Where are you going so soon Sesshomaru?”

Sesshomaru stopped on his tracks. The keys of his car clinging in his hand, he gave his father a quick glance before looking back at his car keys.

“I have a date tonight. I’m going to pick her up.”

“Are you taking her to the party?” Toga was very surprised when his son nodded. Well, this could only mean one thing.

Toga went to his eldest son and put a hand on his shoulder.

“Finally you go out of your shell. It’s taken you a lot of time! Is she worth it?” Sesshomaru, once again, simply nodded.

“Well then, I’m not taking more time from you. I don’t want you to be late. I’ll meet her later.” He gave Sesshoumaru a pat on his shoulders and turned around.

Sesshomaru took a little more time looking at his keys. At least he thought she was worth it. He had to get to know her better. What bothered him was the fact that his inu was not interested. In fact, he felt it yawn several times the night they met. He shrugged it off; he probably needed to know her better, maybe see her more often. His inu would get used to her…

He had to…

He walked to his car and left the manor.

@@@@@@@@@@@

Sango brought her hands to cover her mouth, her eyes were sparkling.

“Kagome…”

Kagome looked at her two friends. She was intrigued by how she would look. Jakotsu had made her trust blindly in his abilities and in the fact that he had promised to make her look like Miss Universe, so he hadn’t let her in front of a mirror once during the process.

He was a man on a mission and he would accomplish it!

Nah!!!

He just loved making people’s jaws drop to the floor amazed by his ability to bring the best physical attributes out in people. Big noses became nice and attractive, some powder here, make the eyes bigger and the nose became smaller or simply gave personality to the owner. He had many important clients and he was proud of that.

Kagome looked at a speechless Sango. She began to panic, Sango always found words no matter what happened, so she was either looking like a clown or she looked wonderful. She wished it was the latter, she didn’t want to waste any more time with the “fixing” as Jak liked to call it.

“Get me a mirror. Now! Please! Sango, what’s the matter? Tell me!” But Sango was not reacting, her eyes almost out of their sockets. She then looked at their friend, Jak, who was brushing some dust off his shoulder with his hand in smug satisfaction. Kagome didn’t feel any better; the man was very eccentric.

Finally, Sango noticed Kagome was beginning to hyperventilate and reacted uncovering a large mirror that had been hidden behind a piece of fabric.

She was finally able to see the results of Jakotsu’s job. She found no words to describe how she felt, it was just perfect! She looked like a lady.

“Jak! I don’t know what to say!”

“Me neither!”

“Oh girls. You flatter me.” He dismissed their words with a wave of his hand, but his smile showed how much he loved their reaction and how much he knew they would react that way.

Kagome kept looking at her reflected image in the mirror. She couldn’t believe Jak had turned a plain but elegant dress into something so impressive and sophisticated and still not look like a man eater.

The bell rang and Jak looked at his friends with a questioning look.

“That must be Inuyasha. I called him to tell him to pick Kagome up in here. I hope you don’t mind, Jak” Sango looked at him apologetically.

“Nah! Don’t worry. Who is this Inuyasha?”

“He is the friend I met at college. I told you about him, remember?” At his nod she continued. “I’m living with his family and he is my date tonight.”

Jak put his arm around Kagome’s shoulder.

“Aha! So do we have a boyfriend?”

“No! He is just a friend! He is like my brother, nothing more!”

Sango had left to open the door and returned with Inuyasha in tow. When they entered the room Inuyasha remained rooted and speechless. His eyes were big with impression. Kagome gave him a shy smile.

“Hi Inuyasha!”

Finally words came to his mouth…

“Nice. Car outside. Go now.”

…Making a good impression of a five-year-old... Or rather Tarzan of the Jungle.

Kagome went to his aid noticing how Jak and Sango were trying not to laugh.

“Yes, we should get going. Thanks for everything Jak. I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow!” She kissed them both on the cheek and left, followed by Inuyasha who was beginning to get his senses back.

He was wondering what had happened to his friend. She was looking like a woman, not a girl, and a delectable one at that. He still had brotherly feelings towards her, but he was beginning to notice the woman in her. Was she always so curvy? And had her neck always been so long?

Surprising Kagome, he helped her in his car, displaying manners she had never known he was capable of.

They drove silently to the party, Inuyasha throwing her short glances, admiring her new found beauty and her elegance. For the first time, he regretted getting her in this trouble by taking her to the party; perhaps she would have been more protected if she had gone with his father, or even Sesshomaru. He frowned and vowed to protect Kagome all through the night; he would not let anyone insult her. His Kagome was the sweetest person in the world and he would not let anyone harm her or diminish her.

He held on to the wheel and pressed the gas. Soon he saw the lights of the manor that had been reserved for the party.
