Saying Farewell to His First
Standing Inuyasha turned towards his bedroom door. Grumbling to him self, “If anything happens to Kagome tonight I will hurt my brother. Dahling as well seeing as she was to stay and watch until Sesshoumaru got there.” Reaching the door he turned the elegantly carved handle and had to admit to him self that his brother had good taste.
The room he was in was decorated in deep crimson with a nice mahogany wood work on the walls; and was very spacious. The big bay windows were curtained in a deep forest green with white sheer curtains to balance the color and allow more light in. The floor was polished black marble with Persian rugs lying in the places one would walk the most.
The bed looked to be carved from Redwood with great Inu demons running all around the head and foot boards. It had a plush feather mattress, with Eiderdown quilts and Egyptian silk sheets. The sheets were crimson and the quilts were the forest green of the curtains. The feather pillows were piled high on the bed and cased in white silk.
Apparently even Sesshoumaru could not deny the fact that they were brothers. At least he hadn’t put him in the dungeon. Probably because of Kagome; he was just trying to call a truce without actually saying it. You just couldn’t help but admire his efforts.
Shaking his head slowly Inuyasha turned and left. However much his brother might not like him they were still family and with Inu’s family was first. Walking down the marbled hall lost in his thoughts Inuyasha was surprised when he looked up and found him self in front of the great double doors they were told about when they first arrived.
*I seem to be losing myself more and more here don’t I?*
‘Yes but you are here in support of Kagome. And it is surprising that even though you know Kikyo is just five minutes away that you are not going to her. I believe you have found a new obsession and I don’t mean Kagome with Sesshoumaru.’
*I don’t know what you mean. Dahling is a pretty face that’s all. The only reason I am not after Kikyo is I am worried about Kags.*
‘Sure keep telling yourself that my friend let’s see where it gets you. You better start paying attention. You’re outside and walking among the Roses and Jasmine.’
Surprised Inuyasha looked up and stopped walking; looking around he sensed an aura standing not far from him. It was an extremely misty night and he could not see far enough to see who it was.
“What are you doing up and about out here? Considering the hour and the fact the lord and lady are not here.” A silky voice drifted to him through the misty garden.
“Who’s there? Show yourself or prepare to meet my tetsaiga.” Inuyasha growled resting one hand on the hilt of his sword.
“Don’t worry little puppy it is only Dahling Sasuna’s friend.”
“Dahling why are you here? Did everything go alright? Is anything wrong?”
“No, puppy, nothing went wrong. I stayed and watched from the shadows to make sure Ciana got what she deserved. He killed her with a lethal dose of his poison in her blood stream then collapsed the cave after he got Kagome out.” Dahling paused here for a moment. “I had no idea he could be so scary.”
“All Inu demons are like that about their mates. If you endanger their mate an Inu demon will not spare you. You will die a very painful and gruesome death.” Inuyasha explained simply.
“I saw a bit of that tonight, your brother he really does love Kagome. If ever there was doubt before about how much he cared about her this night would put it out of everyone’s minds.”
Inuyasha growled low, “I know and yet still I keep remembering all the years she was there with me. Right there and now she won’t be. She loved me for the longest time and I just shoved her aside for a memory. A memory of a dead woman who can’t do anything but make me suffer. Kikyo died more than 50 years ago, and although a Kikyo walks this earth she is nothing but graveyard soil and clay.”
“Why choose a clay pot over a living woman Inuyasha? Why not just let go of the past. It’s over you are just letting your future dwindle into dust. Why do you choose a past that is gone over a future that is yet to come?”
“I guess I just figured that since she had been with me for so many years she always would be. I don’t know. Seems a bit immature doesn’t it?”
“Just a bit; but it seems to me that you are growing up even as we speak. Inuyasha why don’t you try to let the past go, Kagome with it; when you are ready to move forward I won’t be far.” Dahling whispered.
Dahling walked toward Inuyasha her long, light brown hair swinging with her every step. She got close to him and stopped, just looked into his amber colored eyes with her Ice Blue ones. “Don’t take too long getting over the past Inuyasha. I can not wait for you forever. It would kill me to do that to myself.”
Inuyasha tried to swallow down the lump in his throat opened his mouth and nothing came out. It was all he could do to nod his head and let her know he understood what she was offering.
Dahling started to walk away.
“Dahling! Wait a second. Why don’t we go for a walk? I came out here to get some air. Would you like to go with me?”
Smiling softly her lips stretching against her white teeth. She looked surprisingly beautiful in the soft moonlight. She wore a blood red full length dress that bared her shoulders and arms. The dress flowed like silk down her body and pooled around her feet on the dark green grass. She looked like a lost goddess of the night. The moon illuminated her, made her skin gleam like silver and her hair looked like a dark golden veil threaded through with silver stars. Inuyasha couldn’t help but stare at her during the first part of their walk.
“Hey uh… Dahling? Can I ask you a question?”
“Of course you may Inuyasha.”
“Why would you want me? I mean I am pining for a dead woman.”
“Well Inuyasha it is simple. I know your story, everyone does. And the way I see it you never got to grieve for Kikyo. You aren’t pining you are hoping against hope, against everything, that she isn’t dead. But you know she is. Kagome understood this as well. Which is why she waited so long for you; but she couldn’t wait forever. And neither can I.”
“So you believe I am just mourning her?”
“Well yes, she pinned you to a tree and you couldn’t mourn her properly when she died. You weren’t able to. So naturally after you were freed you felt a sense of loss. And you don’t want it to be true. But it is true Inuyasha. And the sooner you realize that the sooner you can move on.”
“It does make a lot of sense. When you really think about it. Four years of mourning is a long time. I think it is high time I let her go. Dahling will you come with me when I go to see her. Well the fake Kikyo that walks now. Will you come with me?”
“Yes I will come with you Inuyasha when you are ready to face her I will come and help you get closure.”
“Tonight. I want to go tonight. I don’t want to waste a single moment. I wasted too many years wanting her back. I lost Kagome because of it; I won’t lose my chance with you.”
“Well then Inuyasha let’s go and see your past love.”
Taking a last look around the moonlit garden, Inuyasha grabbed Dahling’s hand and the pair headed off into the forest surrounding the Western Lord’s Palace. Off to a meeting they were both afraid would not go the way they wanted.
Kikyo sat listening to the sounds of the night and thinking about things that had happened in the past. She knew she shouldn’t be here. She was an abomination something not meant to be here. She knew Kagome was at Sesshoumaru’s palace becoming his mate. Inuyasha was there as well. Everyone was happy while she sat out here in the woods dreaming of the days when she had been alive.
She sat alone with her soul gatherers; the clearing she was in was surrounded by tall trees, low shrubbery and a patch of bright moonlight illuminated a spot of the green grass. She sat now in that spot thinking about Inuyasha and why he wasn’t coming to her. She had given him the sign that meant he should come two days ago. Where was he?
Kikyo tensed and looked in the direction of the palace. Inuyasha was coming, finally, but he was not alone. There was a woman with him.
‘What does he mean by bringing some woman here to see me?’
She stood and waited for the two coming into her sanctuary against the entire outside world. Her place of thought.
Inuyasha walked slowly but purposefully into the clearing that Kikyo waited for him in. He knew she wanted him to come alone but he could not do this without Dahling.
“Inuyasha why do you bring this woman here? You know the rules. You come alone and bring no one.”
“Kikyo I just wanted to introduce you to Dahling the Vampire Queen. And to tell you that I won’t be back to see you again.”
“What do you mean by that? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT INUYASHA?!”
“Kikyo I am done mourning you. That is all I was doing every time I came to see you. I was hoping that you weren’t dead although I can smell the graveyard soil on you. I just know that you are dead and you aren’t coming back.”
“Kikyo.”
Kikyo turned her head sharply toward Dahling. The slut who was taking her revenge away from her. Inuyasha had been beginning to trust her more it had only been a matter of time before she could have dragged him to hell with her.
“You dare to speak to me bitch?”
“Yes I dare, I also dare to tell you that I will beat you in a fight should you choose to do what you were planning to do with Inuyasha. I can see into your mind.”
“What should you care? You are nothing to me. I am here for vengeance nothing more. Inuyasha made a promise to me. He will fulfill it whether he wants to or not. You can not stop me.”
“I can and will do not underestimate me. I know things even you wouldn’t understand.”
“Inuyasha you will uphold your promise tonight. While your bitch watches. Or you will watch her die before you come to hell with me.”
Inuyasha looked at Kikyo as though she had grown another head. He had never seen her this way, and she was ugly.
“No Kikyo; no one is going to die and I sure as hell ain’t going to hell. Not with you; not with anyone. I sacrificed my life for you; I lost Kagome because of you. I won’t let you do it to me again and make me lose Dahling. Kikyo I have mourned you for longer than I should have. I am over it; I am over you. Before Naraku we might have been able to be happy. But he ruined it for us now he is gone and I am hoping that you will not be just like him and try to ruin it for me and Dahling.”
“I am NOTHING like that half demon.”
“Then prove it. Let Dahling and me leave in peace with you. Let me go just as I have let you go.”
“Inuyasha.”
“Kikyo.”
“I will let you go just so I am not labeled the same as Naraku.”
“Thank you Kikyo. You were my first love but you are gone it is time for me to move on and you as well.”
“Inuyasha it is time to go. It is nearing sunrise.”
“Alright Dahling let’s go. Kikyo I wish you all the best. Goodbye.”
“Goodbye Inuyasha. May you and your vampire have all the happiness you deserve.”
Turning around Inuyasha and Dahling walked back out of the clearing in the woods near the palace. Holding hands they both knew that it was not a time for talking. They continued walking and when they reached the palace they paused.
“Inuyasha, I believe the Lord and Lady are back. And they will want to talk with all of us.”
“I think your right but I am not in the mood for my brother’s attitude, I wish to talk to Kagome alone for a minute.”
“Will he allow that?”
“No but knowing Kagome she won’t let him say no. Sasuna leaves today as well and she will want a word alone with her as well. I want to go first. I want to tell her about us and what happened with Kikyo last night.”
“Well then from the looks of it they are just now dispatching messages to the others. Do you want to go to her now?”
Nodding his head Inuyasha went up the wide marble stairs, and through the giant carved doors. He walked up to his brother and his new mate. Bowed low and stood waiting for Kagome to acknowledge him. He didn’t have to wait long.
Smiling at her best friend Kagome held out her hand to Inuyasha. When he took it she pulled him into a big bear hug.
“Inuyasha how are you today? I was kind of worried about you.”
“HMM-MMM”
“Sorry Sesshoumaru. But he is my best friend; I think I can hug him if I want to.”
“Hnn.”
“You big baby. Inuyasha what’s wrong? Do you need to talk to me about something?”
“Yes actually, I was hoping to talk to you in private. If it was ok with your new mate.”
“No it is not ok with her new mate. What you must say to her you can say in front of me.”
“Sesshoumaru. This is Inuyasha; I can talk to him alone; in private, whenever I want to.”
“Kagome, you try my patience. You are not permitted-“
“PERMITTED?! Listen here mister if I wish to speak with my friends alone I will; I don’t need your permission! Come on Inuyasha we can go into the study.”
“As you say my Lady.”
Leaving a growling Sesshoumaru, Kagome and Inuyasha headed into the study as the others were heading down the stairs in answer to the summons.
