Phase 13

Phase 13

The True Peach Killer

Thursday 12, April 2001

You shiver from the multiple gunshots still ringing in your ears, and not from the cold air. Beside you, Katsuro hobbles, leaning against the mansion’s wall as he dials on his cell phone. You reach out to give the man some extra support, but flinch at the sudden shrill of shattering glass.

You quickly leave Katsuro’s side and look around the corner of the mansion. Katsuro quietly calls out to you to stay back, but you ignore him to find the disturbance instead.

It doesn’t seem that anything has changed at first, since you can’t see any dark figure standing before the mansion. You only hear Katsuro’s soft pants and boots crunching against the Earth behind you. Moments pass and a cool breeze rushes pass, lifting your hair slightly, and disturbing the leaves of the trees. You blink as the clouds veiling the moon part and begin to drift away.

You immediately catch sight of the shimmering shards of glass on the ground trailing to and scattered around a body. You gasp.

“Inuyasha!”

You instinctively rush forward and kneel beside him. Katsuro lags behind and leans against the mansion’s corner to rest. You look over the bits of glass that look to be sprinkled over his body worriedly, not exactly sure what to do. Inuyasha grunts, and jerks as he tries to push himself up with the support of one arm.

You quickly assist him, attempting not to disturb his other arm, but he winces. “Inuyasha…”

He opens his eyes partly and curses. “I told…to hide.. Wait until I come to find you.” He grunts as he struggles to push himself up. “…Stupid wife.”

“Who’s the stupid one here?” Tears pool into your eyes as you try to help him sit up. “You can’t even form a sentence.”

“…Shut up.” He gives up for the moment and leans into your support.

You shiver as the first tears begin to trickle down your face. “Don’t die.”

Inuyasha shifts slightly and begins to answer, but pauses at hearing the creak of the mansion’s front door. “Get away from here! Hide!”

Frozen in fear, you watch the peach man walk out of the mansion and towards you, ignoring Inuyasha’s commands.

“Oh, you got out,” the peach man notes, setting his eyes upon you. “How lucky, we were running out of time. I’ll feed that stupid tree now then.”

“___!”

You gasp, but your attention is too late when the peach man grabs the back of your jacket and a handful of your hair with it. He begins to drag you away, but pauses to kick aside Inuyasha.

“Foolish human,” the peach man scoffs and continues to drag you along.

You cry out in pain and attempt to dig and scratch your fingernails in the peach man’s hand. After a short walk, feeling to be much longer for you while you struggled, the peach man pauses near the opposite corner of the mansion before a regular looking tree.

“Pathetic.” He looks down at you and chuckles as he jerks you around to face the tree. He gestures to the tree with his free hand. “Isn’t it horrid? This disgusting fruit tree that eaten over fifty humans for nourishment.”

He reaches down, and yanks a tangle of vines from the ground before the tree, revealing a deep, dark pit. “Now you’ll be buried along with all the others.”

You pause in your struggling when the disgusting smell residing in the pit eases out and hits your senses. Bile instantly travels up your throat, and you turn your head away, blinking as your eyes burn with tears.

“What’s wrong? You don’t want to meet the other wretches?” The peach man grins savagely. “Well, too bad, someone’s has to die today. Say hello to…”

Inuyasha claws at the ground for support as he tries to force his human body to cooperate. He growls as he turns in the direction of you and the peach man. “No…”

A gun is fired, the bullet cuts through the air, and pierces the wrist of the hand the peach man is gripping your neck with. The peach man watches in shock as the hand clenching your neck, releases you and blood gushes from his wrists. He turns, to see the person that found his weakness and his shock dissipates into rage.

“Yura, you traitorous bitch…” He hatefully whispers as the many hungry vines emerge from the pit and wrap around his large body. Before he can speak another word, the vines overtake him and pull him down into the dark pit, only then are his enraged and painful screams heard.

You release a shaky from where you fell out of his grip on the ground, and quickly scoot when another vine slithers out of the pit towards you. A few moments later, the vine stops, and slithers back into the pit away from you.

You stare at the pit before you, and sit there breathing as if trying to comprehend what you just saw, but snap out of it when Inuyasha calls your name. You quickly get up, and rush to the half demon, barely paying attention to when “Ms. Sango” passes by you to approach the pit.
