Chapter Thirteen

Kagome felt herself blush as she entered the room, it almost made herself run out the room. She felt like she was at the super market about to pick out the best steak. She hadn't seen some of the men before and wondered what they had been told. Embarrassment filled her as they all turned to look at her, she fidgeted under the gazes. Why her? The tension could be cut in the room it was so thick. Most of them looked as nervous as her.

This wouldn't do, at this rate she was going to run out the room. Someone really needed to break the tension. "Okay line up and drop em." Several gasps were heard at the announcement, Botan burst out laughing.

"She was kidding you fool." Hiei stated when Chu started going for the button on his pants.

"For a second there I thought this was going to be an easy win. Oh well." Chu got in line with the other men.

"Nice breasts that one has." Jin leaned over towards Touya.

"I heard that." Kagome yelled at him. Now she suddenly felt like the piece of meat. Could her life get any worse? Best to get this over and done with quick. All the men lined up for her, waiting. She started with the first guy, furthest to the left.

The first guy was over six feet tall, with a weird hairdo, and only plain looking in the face. She placed her hand on his shoulder and waited. She could sense that he had a good soul, very kind hearted but nothing happened.

The next guy was the one that been going for his pants. She shuddered at looking upon his mohawk, if this was the soul's choice she was going to buy a hedge trimmer first thing in the morning. He wasn't too bad to look at and was well built. She placed her hand and nothing.

"Guess it means no ride for this bloke."

She ignored the comment and went to the next one. It was the short guy that had held her yesterday when she'd been in pain. He was smaller than her but extremely good looking. She placed her hand, sorrow filled her but that was all.

Her eyes landed on the next man, it was the red head from that day at Keiko's. He was extremely goodlooking she had to give him that. She placed her hand on him and paused. Her instincts kicked in and she suddenly saw him as someone else. Long silver hair, white clothes, and holding a large Kagome eating plant. Her eyes roamed over the aura to make sure, it was him. The loud crack sounded across the room, "You tried to kill me, you jerk."

"It was an accident I assure you."

"Yeah right." She moved onto the next guy, only two left. He had short red hair and wore a large grin, he was also the one that had remarked on her breasts. He had a nice chest though. She felt disappointment when she got nothing. At least he'd had a cute smile.

The last guy had his eyes turned away from her, refusing to look at her. 'Oh well. Just touch him and get it over with.' She was ready to inform this Koenma that Midoriko didn't find any of his meat grade-A. Her hand landed on his shoulder, it caused his head to snap up. Unlike the others, touching him got a reaction out of her. But not the one she was looking for. It was her soul that she felt stirring, she could feel Midoriko's in the background. The look in his ice blue eyes told her he felt it also. Her hand dropped and she took a step back.

"Well?" Botan asked.

"None, she didn't react to any of them." Though she had.

"Koenma isn't going to be pleased, the only other one is Yusuke and we can't ask him."

The door opened and two men came in, Kagome recognized Yusuke. Her eyes landed on the other one, her breath caught. She didn't have to touch him, she felt the soul inside her come to life.

"How is it coming?" Koenma looked over at the men, then to the girl. He finally got a good look at her up close. She was beautiful and staring right at him. "Yes?"

Kagome wasn't sure why she moved but her feet took her to stand in front of him. The urge was too strong to ignore, her hand came up to grab the thing in his mouth out. She tossed it to the floor behind her as he stared in disbelief. Her hands grabbed him behind his neck and pulled him down. Her lips claimed his before anyone could react.

She was expecting him to protest, instead his hands landed on her waist. Her tongue slid over his lips and his mouth opened for her. She moaned when his tongue came out to meet hers. Excitement filled her when he took over the kiss, dominating her mouth.

"Get a room you two." Yusuke shouted causing them to pull apart.

Kagome backed up and threw her hands over her mouth. "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me." Laughter could be heard behind her causing her to blush. She didn't know how to explain it, "It reacted towards you as soon as you came in. Not my fault." It sounded lame even to her ears.

"I see. Did you have a reaction to any of the other guys?" He asked.

"No." Not the kind they were looking for anyways. He wanted someone to bond with Midoriko's soul not hers. So she remained quiet.

"Very well. I'd like to ask all of you to step outside and wait for me please. Except you Kagome." Koenma waited for everyone to leave to speak to her. When the door shut behind them he got to the point. "What did you feel?"

"Um, I think it was her soul, like a stirring of it. Then I had the urge to kiss you." Her cheeks reddened at the statement.

"Then we have a problem, there is no way I can form a bond with you."

Kagome knew who he was, from what Botan had told her. Of course there was no way he could attach himself to a human female. "I understand, guess we will have to keep looking."

"Very well." He walked out the room to give her some time alone.


Kagome sat down on the floor and groaned. Why had Midoriko made her want to lock lips with the one male that was beyond their reach? Was she tyring to punish her or something? Then again the kiss had been nice. It hadn't been anything like Karasu's kiss though. More gentle but it had missed something. That something that made her body tighten and her toes to curl.

The door opened behind her and someone spoke. "Why did you lie?"

Her head turned to see the blue haired guy that she had reacted to. "I didn't lie." She really didn't need this right now.

"Mind telling me what I felt then?" Touya looked at her, what had he felt? He hadn't wanted to stand in the line but Koenma had urged them all to. Shock had been the first reaction to the pull he'd felt.

"Look I didn't lie alright. Koenma is looking for someone to bond with Midoriko's soul. That wasn't her soul that you reacted to."

"Then who's was it?"

"It was mine." She stumbled over the words. A loud scream was heard from outside, then a lot of shouting. The door burst open and Touya was thrown back against the wall. Kagome felt her heart drop at seeing Karasu standing in the doorway. Then the rush of excitement filled her at seeing him. Her pulse picked up as her eyes drank him in. She felt herself being picked up suddenly and then his growl of outrage.

She felt herself being carted outside as he gave pursuit. Hiei held onto her as he made his way over to the group. They stopped and Kagome found herself suddenly surrounded by a bunch of men. They stood in front of her blocking her from the man as he came outside.

He looked angry at the sight. The guy with orange hair was behind her his hands on her shoulders holding her still. He wasn't hurting her but it clearly said for her to stay put. She realized that they had the human male holding onto her.

"Give it up Karasu." Koenma spoke to him.

"I will not, you have something that belongs to me." His eyes landed on her.

"We will not let you use her in your plans for revenge." Kurama placed himself right infront of her.

"Hmph, don't be foolish Kurama. She was never a part of my plan to get revenge, actually she changed it. I find I no longer like you. I've found something more powerful and much more beautiful. I will not be leaving without her."

"Hate to disappoint you but you won't be leaving at all. You're going to die." Hiei went for him and tried to bring his katana down. He slammed into the barrier knocking him back. "Dammit."

Kagome wasn't sure why the barrier went up, part of her was saying to protect him. It was urging her to go to him. Her brain told her not to be stupid, he'd almost killed her. She caught his eyes and saw the lust and want. His eyes looked to the left, the side where there was only Yusuke beside her. Was he telling her to head that way? He looked back at her, seeing what she would do. If she didn't then someone would die and he couldn't kill her. There was no way they'd be able to kill him because something inside her wouldn't let them.

Kagome elbowed Kuwabara in the ribs and shoved Yusuke aside. Neither was expecting it and she took off running. She heard someone swear and then arms pick her up. He pulled her hard against his chest causing her to cry out.

Her head looked behind them to see a large black mist filling the air stopping anyone from following. They stopped in their tracks as it began to cause the surrounding grass to die. Kagome knew instantly what it was, miasma.
