Chapter Eleven


"Here she is," Kuwabara held up a large orange cat rather than a kitten. It had white strips along it's back and tail.

"That's not a kitten it is a cat." She reached out taking the feline away. It meowed as she stroked it's head. "What's the matter with the kitty?" A soft pur began as she petted the animal. "Why?" Another meow was her answer, "Ahhh, that's so sweet. I'll see what I can do sweetie. Why don't you show me where he is." She placed the cat on the soft ground. It took off down the street.
"Let's follow her."

The three took off, following the cat. It stopped at the corner, then took a right. A few minutes later they stopped in an alley, the cat meowed. It looked back at the girl then sprinted once more. She stopped beside a large dumpster. Taree ran beside her, "Is he back here?" She moved a cardboard box, then found him. A male gray cat was laying on it's side, it looked pitiful. "Poor thing, don't worry I'll fix ya up."

"So what's wrong with her?"

"She has been worried about her man. Look at him, the poor thing. Can we take him back to your house?" She picked the male cat up.

"Yeah let's go, it stinks around here." Kuwabara picked up his cat. After getting back to his house they cleaned the cat up and fed him.

Tar inspected him, "He should be okay. He's just underfed and a little beat up. She should be happy now."

"Thanks, guess I gotta keep him now." Kuwabara grinned. "Are you two going to be okay walking back?"

"Yep, see you later." She waved at him and walked out the door. Touya was quick on her heels.

Kagome felt like crawling under the couch and never coming back out. What the hell had come over her? She didn't like him so why had she kissed him? For the last twenty minutes neither spoke considering Chu was now up and about. He planted himself on the couch with them. She was thankful for his presence.

"Do you feel that?" Hiei asked.

Kagome gazed at him then she felt it. A quick tugging on her soul, but it was faint. "What is that?" She got up and ran outside behind Hiei. Kurama and Mai were leaning against his car talking. They looked up quick when they heard them exit. Something was coming, coming fast.

Kurama saw the way his friend was standing and became alert. Yusuke and the others came running out the door. The detective looked around, "What the hell is that?"

Mai went to stand beside Kagome grabbing her arm, "Kagome, what do you sense?"

"A large aura, very powerful. Where's it going?"

Hiei was searching but he couldn't pin it down. "It's everywhere." Suddenly, a large black cloud began to gather into one large mass. It was like watching the dark suddenly take shape and form into a living being. "It's showing itself."

Kagome felt like it was choking her, consuming her. She felt a hand land on her shoulder, it was Mai. The touch gave her some comfort. "I'm okay."

It finally completed it's transformation, landing on top of Kurama's car. The roof caved in under the weight, the tires popped. It began to speak, "I am disappointed. My work should have been done, yet another miko stands before me. I killed the last of your kind over three years ago. Why didn't I detect your presence when I last came to this world?"

Kagome suddenly became very afraid. Her soul felt consumed by the being in front of her. It made shivers run down her spine, pure evil was standing mere feet from her.

"No matter, I will dispose of you now. A new age is soon to be born; you will not be around to interfere." Footsteps were heard coming up the street, someone was running their way. The being turned at the sound and hissed, "You."

Kagome turned to see Taree and Touya stopped about twenty feet away. Hiei stepped in front of her, "I suggest you leave now or die."

It paid the small man no attention, he was glaring at the couple standing further away. "I thought I disposed of you already girl. This time I will make sure before I leave your corpse to rot. You were a fool to think she would be able to keep you safe. Not even
the Guardian of the Shikon can save you."

Kagome's eyes widened, she knew that he refered to her. But how did he know Taree? "Who are you?"

"Doesn't matter who I am Guardian. You may have the power of the jewel but it will not be enough to stop us. The new day will come, He shall be reborn."

"I'm tired of hearing him talk, I say we kill him now." Hiei took a step forward.

"I fully agree." Kurama drew his rose whip.

"Let's kick his ass," Yusuke and the others came to stand in front of Kagome.

"We're behind ya mate." Chu sobered up real fast.

"Fools, you may keep the Guardian for now but I shall destroy the Descendant." He turned and charged towards Touya and Taree.

Touya knew he couldn't destroy that thing on his own. The girl stood there petrified, terror came off of her in waves. He grabbed her by the waist throwing them both to the ground as it glided over their heads. That had been to close, he could hear the others shouting. It was coming back for them. He looked down into her scared eyes as he felt something surround him.

Hiei jumped at the creature the moment it landed on top of the ice youkai. His katana struck the mist flowing from his body and instantly dissolved. He jumped back throwing the metal to the ground.

"Dammit, what the hell is he made of?" Yusuke stopped beside his friend. They could hear Touya screaming somewhere from inside the pitch black mist. "We gotta get to them."

Kurama tested the mist by swinging his whip, it too was instantly melted. "We can't touch it or we will be destroyed."

Kagome tried to run forward right into it. Hiei snatched her around the waist. "Let me go Taree is in there."

"Don't be a fool you will die too."

Jin could hear his friend's screams piercing his ears. He called upon the wind trying to blow the mist away, it remained.

Touya felt like his soul was being ripped out. His skin was cold and clammy, even for a ice youkai. Death was inching itself into his every pour. He was going to die, then the girl would be next. He felt a hand come up to rest around his waist, she was moving underneath him. Her touch caused a warm feeling to spread through out his lower back. The warmth began to spread forcing the other feeling to withdraw. A soothing feeling entered his aura, calming his soul. He was being engulfed with light.

The others heard the screaming suddenly stop and assumed that the ice youkai was now dead. The creature started moving in jerky movements and moaning. "Impossible." It hissed and suddenly disappeared. They ran forward at seeing the two laying on the ground.

Kurama got to them first and checked. "Both are alive but out. Help me get them inside." He picked up Touya and Yusuke picked up the girl. "Hiei, I think we need to contact Koenma."
