Between Best Friends

Chapter Twelve

"Inu..yasha," Kagome felt the tears stream down her face at seeing him standing there. She couldn't bring her body to move only stare at him.

Inuyasha felt the Tetsusaiga transform back to its rusty blade and heard her call him. His Kagome was staring at him with tears falling heedless of those that watched. He sheathed his sword and ran to her as she fell to her knees. "Kagome, please don't cry."

She looked into the golden eyes that she loved so much. "You're alive. You're really alive." She threw her arms around him. Feeling him once more in her arms brought tears of joy. All this time she'd believed he had sacraficed his life. All she had ever wanted was for him to happy even if it wasn't with her. It felt good to be held again by him. Her best friend and first love was alive.

"I'm sorry Kagome. I never meant to hurt you. You left and there was no way to tell you." Inuyasha wasn't sure how to explain his life with Kikyo.

Kagome looked up to see where his eyes were. There walking towards them was Kikyo. Kagome held her breath as she saw the woman that had once been her rival. 'No, she had never been my rival. We had both loved him, still did.' Kagome noticed that the woman had changed and then knew. Kikyo was alive, no longer made from earth and ash. Then she knew why Inuyasha was still alive. Somehow Kikyo had gotten her life back and they had chosen to have a life together. Her rational side demanded that she be angry for having grieved for his death. But seeing Kikyo and him once again made her just happy to see them. She had let him go and moved on. "Its okay I understand." She got to her feet and met Kikyo half way.

Inuyasha feared that a fight would ensue and grabbed Kagome's arm. "Sit boy." He felt the pull that would send him to meet the ground. The earth rose up to meet him.

"Now thats a way to tame the doggie." Jin laughed.

Everyone glared at him. Kagome watched Kikyo stop within arms reach with an uncertain look on her face. "Kikyo, I'm so happy for you." She pulled the woman that looked exactly like her into an embrace. "It is good to see you again."

"Likewise, Kagome. We have been worried about you." Kikyo smiled knowing that the girl had accepted her and Inuyasha's relationship. Inuyasha could be heard swearing in the back ground.

"Fucking bitch hasn't changed. Wait till I get up." Inuyasha heard several growls coming from behind him. He pulled himself out his crater. He turned to find two demons standing in front of him.

"Call her it again half-breed and I'll remove your tongue." Hiei was pissed and a little upset. It was obvious to everyone that this half-breed was Kagome's suppose to be dead boyfriend. If he insulted her again, Hiei would personally make sure he'd get that way.

"I'd advise you from insulting her in the future." Kurama didn't care if Kagome still loved him. He needed to learn to respect his betters.

"Who the fuck are you? Like I care what either one of you have to say." Inuyasha withdrew Tetsusiaga again and it formed. Kurama and Hiei had seen what the weapon could do but stood their ground.

Kagome saw him draw it and pointing it at the two men she'd came to love. "SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT!" He felt the pull and landed once more. Each shout caused him to be buried a little bit more.

"Fuck," came muffled from the hole. Kagome grabbed Kikyo's hand and they stood over the hole. She turned to the woman Inuyasha had chosen, "How did you manage centuries without killing him?"

"I visited Kaede right before she passed on." She smiled at the hole. "Down," Inuyasha cursed as he felt the pull on him slamming him back down. "I took a hint from someone I admire greatly."

"Gotta feel sorry for the lad," Jin scratched his head. "Bad enough one woman can make ya splat on your ass but two." Both turned to glare at him. "I'll be going over here, if ya be needing me." He took off in a gust of wind.

Everyone else decided to leave the five alone. Keiko wanted to give her friend support but felt someone grab her by the elbow. Sesshomaru had ahold of her arm and was leading her away. "Give them time."

"Okay," she smiled up at the demon lord. He looked down in her face and stared. He heard the annoying boy yelling at him once more. "Get your hands off my girlfriend." He released the girl and smirked.


Kagome felt Kurama and Hiei coming up behind her and smiled. "Kikyo, I'd like you to meet Hiei and Kurama." She nodded at the two noticing the way they went protectively around her reincarnation. So she had moved on, explained why she accepted everything so easily. Not that she could blame her they were quite the catch.

Inuyasha pulled himself completely out, "What did you do that for Kikyo?"

"You were being rude as always. Stop fussing and say hello to Kagome's mates." She watched her lover's jaw drop and almost smiled.

"What," he sniffed the air. Their scent lingered on his Kagome. The bastards actually had the nerve to steal his Kagome away.
"I don't fucking think so, she would never. Kagome loves me. They can't have her."

Hiei had him at swordpoint before any of them could blink. "She may love you but she doesn't belong to you." He felt Kagome rest her hand on his shoulder. He released the hanyou.

"Fuck hes fast." Inuyasha stepped back knowing that Kagome had just saved his life. He watched the red head come up and place his arm around her.

"Hiei take Kagome and Kikyo inside please." Hiei didn't like to be sent inside. He actually felt sorry for the hanyou at the moment. Kurama was soft spoken on the outside hiding his true ruthless nature. Kurama saw Kagome's worried look, "Don't worry, I won't start a fight."

Both women followed the short demon into the temple leaving the two staring at each other.

"Since killing you would hurt Kagome I will refrain from doing so. I know who you are. I also know that you had your chance and chose someone else. She belongs to me and Hiei. Don't think for a minute we would hesistate to defend what belongs to us. This is the only warning you will get." Kurama paused making sure he understood.

"Do you love her?"

"Yes, so does Hiei. Hiei only cherishs a few people and you just saw his reaction to one of them being threatened. Don't step out of line again." The fox left him there.


Kagome just got finished talking to Keiko about everything that had happened between her and her new mates. Keiko had wanted all the juicy details, hardly believing that she had landed both guys. All the male demons were sitting in the main room discussing what was going on. Even Koenma had shown up in a rather cute teenage form. Kagome felt the need for a shower. She grabbed a spare pair of clothes and headed for the bathroom.

Kurama was listening to everyone speak at once giving him a headache. He couldn't understand what Kagome had seen in the hanyou. He was rude, loud and very annoying. He turned his head in time to see the object of his desire heading into the bathroom. He excused himself from the group and walked down the long hallway. Hiei knew why his friend had gotten up, he'd seen her also but decided to let Kurama go since he'd been with her this morning alone.

Kurama tried turning the knob to find it locked. He lightly tapped on the door, she cracked the door to find him standing there. "Hey, I'm just about to jump in the shower."

"So I noticed. Mind if I join you?" Her face turned red and he had to laugh. Before she could say no he pushed the door open. "You might need someone to wash your back for you."

"I've been doing it for years on my own. Been fine so far." She snapped.

He placed a hand around her neck pulling her close to him. "Sometimes its more fun to have someone do it for you." He brought his mouth down to kiss her.

Inuyasha watched as the fox demon from earlier knocked on the door Kagome had just entered. He felt like tearing into the asshole when he saw him make his way in. A growl made him turn his eyes towards the little demon. His eyes were daring him to interrupt. Inuyasha almost took him up on the dare. Damn shame the little fucker was so fast.
