A New Beginning
Kagome took the bow and an arrow from Kaede with trembling hands. Placing the arrow where it belonged, she pulled back the string as she aimed at her target.
“Please, hit the mark,” she cried to herself as she let go of the string, sending the arrow flying.
The arrow was mere inches away from Suko, when a hand appeared and plucked it from the air, dissolving it.
“I don’t think that would be wise,” said a cold voice.
“Naraku!” Inuyasha yelled.
The demon paid no attention to Inuyasha as he made his way behind Suko and wrapped his arms around her, biting her ear, which made the possessed girl smile with excitement.
Sesshomaru, who was completely outraged by this, tossed Miroku away with ease, as he rose to his feet, ready to kill.
“Ah, Lord Sesshomaru… I’m surprised to see that you’re still alive,” Naraku said with laughter in his voice.
“Get your vile hands off of her, Naraku!” Sesshomaru spat.
Naraku watched with delight as Sesshomaru lost even more blood as he dashed towards him.
“Careful, Sesshomaru,” Naraku warned, “We don’t want you to bleed to death, do we?”
Sesshomaru stopped where he was when he saw Inuysha lunge at Naraku, his Tetsusaiga held high, ready to strike. Naraku sensed his attack and turned his gaze away from Sesshomaru. This gave Sesshomaru the diversion that he needed to close in on the fiend.
Naraku sent a tentacle out of his body and wrapped it around Inuyasha’s throat, choking the life out of him.
“Bad move, Naraku…” Sesshomaru hissed in his ear. Naraku was completely taken by surprise as Sesshomaru raised his claws and struck Naraku’s neck, knocking his head to the ground. Naraku’s body (still clutching Suko) fell to the ground and dissolved, leaving only a small, wooden doll in its place. Sesshomaru picked it up.
“Naraku’s demon puppet,” Miroku replied.
“So, once again, Naraku gets away,” huffed Inuyasha in disappointment.
Suko, who was still laying on the ground behind Sesshomaru, reached up and dug her nails into the flesh of his leg. Sesshomaru winced with pain as her poison entered his body.
“Purify!” they all heard Kagome cry out as an arrow flew past them, landing in Suko’s shoulder. The girl screamed in pain as the spider mark slowly disappeared.
It was moments before Suko came to, the beautiful blue returning to her eyes once again. Sesshomaru was kneeled down beside her, her hand clutched, tightly, in his. She gasped when she saw the gaping, fist-sized hole in his stomach. Tears formed in her eyes as she asked him, “Did Naraku do that to you?”
“Yes,” he replied, softly, not wanting to tell her what really happened. Wiping away her tears, she placed her hands on his stomach as Inuyasha, Kagome, and the others watched in astonishment as the wound started closing. Once it was completely healed, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her, gently, once again, causing their audience to blush.
“Oh, man,” Inuyasha said quietly, turning his face away to hide his own redness.
“So what now, great Youkai Lord of the Western Lands?” Suko asked him, playfully.
“We go home,” he stated with a smile as he gathered her up in his arms.
She waved good-bye to all of her friends who had been so good to her as she and Sesshomaru dashed away in a ball of light.
Suko closed her eyes and buried her face in his chest, listening to the rhythmic beating of his heart. She couldn’t help, but think about Rikku and her Uncle back home and the life she had now decided to leave behind. She squeezed him tightly and smiled, as she had finally found somewhere to belong.
