CHAPTER 13: FEELIN'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monday…
She thought about coming into work late on purpose. Kagome didn’t want to see Inuyasha as he walked in for work, but then she thought that would be like admitting her guilt. But, she didn't feel guilty at all. Kagome didn’t want Inuyasha to think that, so five minute before he would come into his office she skidded into the break room. Once Kagome was certain that he was in his office she went back to her desk somewhat ready to start the day.
Inuyasha could smell her scent in the air and figured that she was still worried about what happened on Friday night. As far as he was concerned, it was between Kikyou and Kagome to resolve this little incident of theirs. However, in the back of his mind he knew Kags wouldn’t do anything like that unless really provoked. Inuyasha heard Kagome try to sneak back to her desk without being heard, but he’s ear were adept to picking up on frequencies that humans couldn’t even dream of hearing.
The handsome hanyou sat at his desk dreading the business meeting schedule with Naraku in a few minutes. His finger pressed the intercom button on the phone. “Kags?”
She about fell out of her chair in fright and surprise that Inuyasha calling her name.
“Yes, Mr. Masurau? What is it sir?” Kagome was listening so intently for any sign of angry, frustration, ect in his voice. This would give her a hint about his current attitude about Friday night. He didn’t even say anything about her clocking Kikyou yet. ‘Should I bring it up? No. Just leave it alone.’
“Damnit Kags! I told you don’t call me that!” Inuyasha hissed.
“Sorry. What is it?”
“Mr. Onigumo Naraku is coming for a meeting in a few minutes. Would you escort him to the conference room when he arrives.”
That reminded her of the deal that she and Sesshoumaru had discussed; a few nights ago. Then it hit her. The dead line was today. ‘Oi! How could I forget? That’s all I have been think of for the past couple days,’ Kagome thought. “Yes, Mr. Masu… Inuyasha.” She saved herself.
Kagome then turned to her computer and started her usual monotonous clerical skills. She was so enwrapped in typing and trying to make a decision at the same time that she didn’t hear the elevator *ding* announce its arrival to the top floor.
He stepped out of the elevator on the 10th floor and her scent hit him like a hammer. ‘Lilacs.’ A malicious grin graced his face. His well polished black shoes step through the threshold into the lobby. Naraku remembered her from the club and thought she was a delectable morsel, a mirror image of another he knew.
Kagome still hadn’t noticed him. Her beautiful face was buried into the computer screen oblivious to her surroundings. He walked closer and closer to her desk. Naraku’s brownish wavy hair gentle fell forward as he peered around her computer screen and looked at her.
“Excuse me Miss.” His eyes went to her name plaque on the desk. “Kagome Higurashi, is it?” His voice was smooth as silk when he spoke.
Kagome’s eyes snapped away from the screen to the man who was making her hair stand on end. A jolt of negative energy hit her like a ton of bricks. She looked into the eyes of the man peering over her desk. He was most captivating, but he reminded Kagome of a deadly beauty that if you got to close to you would loose your soul. She was on high alert.
“Yes, how may I help you?” Kagome wanted to get away from him. She started scooting back farther in her chair.
“I’m here to see Mr. Masurau for a schedule appointment meeting.”
“Oh! You must be Mr. Naraku. I will escort you to the conference room. Please, follow me.” Kagome moved around her desk. She was fighting the urge to run but forced herself to calm down.
Naraku watched her intently. His eyes were boring into her. ‘This girl is different. There is something about her…’ his thoughts trailed off.
They walked in stony silence down the hall, that was only 30 feet,but felt like it was a mile to Kagome. Silence was alright with her, but sadly it did not last long.
“So, you were the girl that sang at Fox Fire Friday night.” It wasn’t a question more a statement that wanted acknowledgment.
She held her breath. ‘Crap!’ “Yeah! I was… that was my first time there.” ‘And my last, if you attend Fox Fire on a regular basis,’ she thought to herself. Her skin was clawing at the close proximity.
“You have a voice of a siren.”
It was a compliment she could have lived without. “Thank you, sir.”
“Call me Onigumo.”
She didn’t answer him. Naraku took this to mean that she was waiting for him to continue talking. “I look forward to working with you in the future, and maybe you can entertain me personally with your voice again. It is a pity that your employer won’t have the pleasure of seeing, or having you in his company again.”
That was a loaded statement, and that did it for Kagome, she picked up the pace down the hallway and opened the door. Naraku’s smile was an all too telling smile that was making her stomach feel very queasy. As Kagome announced his arrive in the conference room, packed with lawyers and business executives, no one really paid attention to her. After she made the announcement, Kagome waited impatiently for Naraku to walk in the room.
Naraku turned side ways and brushed up in against Kagome in -a -not so accidental ploy. His hands came in full contact with the underside of her breast as he turned and went past her to go inside the conference room.
Kagome gasp. ‘Did he just feel me?’ she thought in disgust and outrage.
But, this didn’t go unnoticed by Inuyasha. His blood and angry hit the ceiling.
