GOMEN!!! I am sooooo sorry I haven't updated in so long. When I said that my job would not interrupt my writing I guess I lied. Last week I worked 37 hours PLUS school so I had literally no time to write. My life was like go to school, leave school early to go to work, work, come home, and sleep. I've been running eighteen hour days and its frigging tiring. But I have devoted my small amount of free time to writing out this chapter. Appreciate it.
And like...Wow! I'm at...*blink* 163 reviews! I'm so glad you guys are enjoying my story! It may or may not have a lemon on it, I'm not too sure. I rated it R just in case though. Arigato! On to chapter thirteen!
Chapter Thirteen: Changes and Concern
~I'm stronger then I look,~
You just have to be able to see,
I'm strong enough to protect,
~Those that are dear to me.~
Kagome stared at Shippou in shock. She barely even registered that she was still alive, let alone the fact that the kit had saved her. "Shippou...?"
Shippou stood glaring down at the fallen youkai, the now bloodied sword tight in his grasp. "Don't hurt Kagome you meany!" He dropped the sword, jumping over Sesshoumaru and into Kagome's arms. "Are you ok, Kagome?" He asked, inspecting her worriedly. He winced slightly as he saw the blood on her lip.
Kagome nodded dumbly, going into a state of shock. She began to shiver slightly, her teeth clattering together. 'I'm so cold all of a sudden...I think I need to lie down...'
Shippou stared at her in concern, having completely forgotten about Sesshoumaru on the ground behind them. He hugged her tighter, trying to calm her down a little bit. "Kagome?" He felt his throat clog with tears, his earlier fears coming back to him. He began to sob against her chest, his little body shaking.
Without hesitating, Kagome hugged him to her, drawing from his warmth, and murmuring comforting words in his ears. "It's ok, Shippou. We're all safe." Then she realised somebody was missing. 'Inuyasha...' Her eyes flickered along the treeline, hoping to catch site of the familiar red robes. 'What happened to you? You looked...wild. Like a ferocious animal...' She shivered slightly as she remembered the bloodlust she had seen in his red eyes. Her eyes came to rest on the form in front of her. Sesshoumaru lay on the ground, hand still clutching his bloody stomach. His chest was moving, indicating that he was still alive, although he was losing quite a bit of blood. 'What are we going to do about him? He may have tried to kill us, but we can't just leave him here...' She made up her mind quickly to take him back to the hut. 'How am I going to do that though? I'm not strong enough to carry him...' She wished that Inuyasha was there, and worried for his safety. 'What if he's hurt? He could be dying in the forest and I wouldn't know!' Her eyes filled with tears at the thought, and she took a step towards the woods.
She halted as she heard a small choked cough from Sesshoumaru. She looked down at him in concern, watching blood dripping out of the corner of his mouth as he coughed. 'He's not going to last much longer...' She thought to herself, deciding that if Inuyasha wasn't there, she was going to have to drag him herself. She turned to Shippou, worry evident in her eyes.
"Shippou... We can't just leave him here to die..." She said uncertainly. Shippou looked up at her confused.
"But... Kagome! He tried to kill us!" He whined, though he knew it was useless to argue. Sometimes Kagome was just too NICE.
"Shippou..." She warned, her tone making it clear there was no arguing about it.
Shippou rolled his eyes and stuck out his bottom lip, pouting. "Oh, alright, Kagome. Maybe if I transform, you can lift him onto me and I can carry him to Kaede's."
Kagome nodded, encouraging him to try. She scanned the treelines one last time searchingly for Inuyasha. After catching no sign of the returning hanyou, she nodded to Shippou for him to transform. She managed to force back the cry of surprise as he turned into the big pink bubble, but her surprise was obvious. Shippou, oblivious to her reluctance, cried out excitedly.
"Ok, Kagome! Lift him up and throw him on! I don't know how long I can hold this." He floated in the air, looking down at her expectantly.
By this time the sun was setting, the sky was turning a rosey pink color, the clouds a romantic lavender. The air was cooling, and there was slight breeze in the air. Kagome would have thought it to be a peaceful night if not for the bleeding youkai she had yet to struggle with.
She bent her knees, kneeling down beside the silver-haired man, hoping to judge just how much effort she'll have to use to lift him up. She sighed, resigning herself to her task. She grasped Sesshoumaru under the arms, using all the strength she possessed. She managed to get his upper body over Shippou, who had floated as close to the ground as he could go. She soon realised that that was not quite enough, he would slip off as soon as they moved. Kagome nibbled her bottom lip, thinking about how to push him up without hurting him. Already his wound had begun to bleed more steadily, and Shippou was whining about it running down his side.
There was no hope of Kagome reaching over the other side of Shippou to grasp Sesshoumaru by the arms again, being as she was too short. She bit her lip, realising the only way she could get him up was by pushing on his rear.
'Lord, I hope he doesn't wake up right now...' She prayed as she put both hands on hit butt, and pushed with all her strength. She just managed to slip him over enough so that he wouldn't fall off.
Shippou had been waiting patiently during the whole process, but he had begun to sweat with the effort of staying transformed and having a body on him. "Kagome! We have to go before I lose my strength!" He said worriedly.
Kagome nodded, walking quickly in the direction of Kaede's hut.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Inuyasha groaned, rolling over onto his knees, and attempted to stand up.
'Wha-what happened? The last thing I remember is... smelling Kagome's blood... Kagome!' He could hear his heart pounding madly in his ears. His fear that Kagome was in trouble gave speed to his feet as he practically flew to where he smelled her blood. He was oblivious to his own blood still coursing steadily down his cheek and out of the long gash on his back as he ran.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Kagome and Shippou had just barely made it a few feet from Kaede's hut when Shippou couldn't hold the form any longer. He popped back into his true form, barely able to keep Sesshoumaru from landing on him. The youkai fell to the dirt with a soft grunt of pain.
Kagome rushed inside the hut, searching for Kaede. "Kaede! Kaede?" She yelled, before realising the old miko was not there. She huffed, blowing her bangs up as she realised she would have to drag the youkai into the hut by herself. 'Well, at least I'm getting my exercise today.' She thought wryly. She grasped Sesshoumaru under the arms again, dragging him up the slight steps and into the hut. Sesshoumaru remained unconcious, although he grimaced in pain when his wound was stretched. Kagome plopped him down unceremoniously onto her own cot, being as it was the only suitable spot for an injured person. Sesshoumaru instantly curled his tail around himself.
Kagome searched around, looking for the backpack she knew contained medical supplies. She took out what was left of the gauze, scissors, and the bottle of iodine. She kept her eye on Sesshoumaru as she did this, trying to determine if he was going to wake up anytime soon. She approached him cautiously when she was sure he was thoroughly out of it. She gulped, praying he wouldn't wake up while she was treating his wound. Her eyes took in the armour he wore, and she set to work trying to remove it. After a long struggle, she managed to lift him up just enough to remove the article, wincing as he moaned softly in pain. She stiffened when she saw his eyes flutter a bit, then relaxed as he showed no other sign of awakening. She untied the sash he wore around his waste, working to open his robes.
Kagome nearly cried out as she saw the state of the hole in his stomach. The edges were raw, bloody, and torn. It was still bleeding profusely, although it appeared to already be mending.
'Wow... Demons must be really fast healers if he's already on the mend.'
Nonetheless, she gently poured iodine into the wound, wincing again as he cried out in pain.
"I'm sorry, but it has to be done." She said firmly, although she knew he couldn't hear her. She bit her lip, thinking on how she was going to wrap him with the gauze. Again, she used all the strength she possessed to lift his dead weight, managing to get him to nearly sit up. She propped his prone body up against the wall, before beginning to wrap him with the gauze. She worked hard to wind it just tight enough to staunch the still-steady flow of blood, grimacing as it elicited more sounds of distress from him. When she was done, she placed him gently back onto the cot, drawing the blanket over him.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Kagome walked back outside, searching again for Kaede. Shippou was still laying on the ground, obviously exhausted from the exertion. Kagome knelt down beside the kit, hugging him to her. "Shippou, I don't think I have thanked you yet for saving my life. So now I am. Thank you so much Shippou, you are the bravest person I know." She whispered into his ear.
Shippou squirmed, uncomfortable with the 'mushy stuff' as he called it. "It was nothing Kagome! Anybody would have done it!" Then he scampered off into the village, leaving Kagome alone.
Kagome sighed, suddenly realising how tired she was. The sun had set, and the stars were beginning to appear. She spotted a figure moving towards her, and her heart sped up. 'Inuyasha?' She took a step forward expectantly, then quelled her disappointment when it proved to be Miroku.
"Ah! Kagome-sama! Are you alright?" He asked, stepping closer. He caught site of her slightly bruised face, and instantly bade her to have a seat on the hut porch. He hurried into the hut to find some of Kaede's herbs, hoping to find something to stop the swelling and close her split lip. She had blood drying on her chin and neck, although she seemed unaware of it. He stiffened when felt the presence of a powerful youkai, coming from somewhere in the hut. Turning around, he started unveiling his kazaana. His fear grew as he saw a form on the cot. The form sprawled across the cot was unmoving, though unmistakebly male. He slowly drew closer, unravelling the prayer beads. He started when he saw the silver hair, and his heart began to pound as he recognized the youkai.
'Sesshoumaru...' Against his instincts he stepped closer to the unconcious youkai. 'Why would Sesshoumaru be unconcious in Kaede's hut? It was obviously not his own choice...' He wondered, quickly dismissing the youkai as not an immediate threat and rewrapping Kazaana. Nonetheless, he placed ofuda's around the cot, meant to restrict his movements. He gathered the medicines and exited the hut.
"Kagome-sama... Why is Sesshoumaru on the cot inside Kaede's hut?" He questioned, setting to work on her bloody face. Kagome was in a daze, staring straight ahead, as if expecting someone to appear. She was unresponsive to his question, so he asked her again. She jerked, focused her eyes on his face, blinked a couple of times, and looked surprised to see him there.
"What was that, Miroku-san?" Her mind slowly registered the fact that he was washing blood off her face. She winced as he wiped at the bruise, although he was trying to be gentle.
"Why is Sesshoumaru inside the hut?" He placed the now bloodied cloth back in the water bowl, and reached for the healing herbs. He began to grind them up as he awaited her answer.
Kagome turned her gaze back to the trail, searching again for Inuyasha's robes. "He and Inuyasha got into another fight. Apparently Sesshoumaru came looking for the source of a powersurge he felt. Inuyasha was not willing to answer his questions. Sesshoumaru hit me... And Inuyasha went wild. I don't know what happened, but his eyes were bloodred..." She shuddered, remembering the blood-thirsty look in his eyes. She vaguely registered the sounds of crickets chirping in the night. "Sesshoumaru turned into this huge white dog, and tossed Inuyasha into the forest. I haven't seen him since, but after he was gone Sesshoumaru turned back into a human. He started threatening me, demanding answers. He was about to kill me when Shippou cut through him with Inuyasha's sword." Miroku paused in his administrations, startled at the thought of Shippou hurting anyone.
"Shippou? But Shippou is only a child. I would not think he would be strong enough to even lift the sword, let alone cut someone with it." He finished making the healing solution as he spoke, and began to rub it on Kagome's bruise.
Kagome nodded in understanding. "But he did it. Sesshoumaru collapsed, and Shippou stood there holding the sword. I couldn't just leave Sesshoumaru out there to die though." She looked up at him, hoping he would understand her feelings in that matter.
Miroku sighed, nodding. "I believe it would be against your nature to leave anything to die, Kagome-sama. Though I do hope you do not intend to adopt him as you've done Shippou." He said with a small smile.
Kagome smiled back at him, before returning her eyes to the path.
Miroku sighed again. "I will tell you what happened to Inuyasha. If you wish." He proposed, finishing the job on her wounds.
Kagome lost her smile, but looked at him expectantly. "I want to know, Miroku-san. Onegai, tell me."
Miroku nodded before settling himself more comfortably on the steps.
"Inuyasha transformed into his demon self. He simply goes wild, forgetting who he is, or who any of us are. He is dangerous when he is like this, so his blood is usually sealed with Tetsusaiga. If he is not in contact with his sword, and he becomes angry or his life is threatened, he loses control. His eyes glow red, his claws and fangs become larger. And he attempts to kill any and everything near him." Miroku finished his speech, looking at Kagome with concern.
Her face had gone incredibly pale, though she was nodding in understanding. "That would explain how he looked before... So if Tetsusaiga seals his blood, the sword should be able to bring him back out of his demon state right? Is there any other way to do that?" She questioned, subconciously touching the bruise on her cheek.
Miroku looked down at his cursed hand before answering. "There was only one time I have seen him transform and be brought back without the sword. When the sword was broken, he went wild, killing a strong demon, and was about to attack us. You ran up to him, calling his name, and you touched him. This was the only time, though I do not recommend your actions be taken again." He smiled wryly at her through the darkness, before yawning. "Sango and Kaede should be returning shortly. They went off quite a while ago to collect herbs and water. I would not suggest sleeping in the hut with Sesshoumaru tonight. It is much too dangerous." He warned, reaching back and tugging on his ponytail slightly.
Kagome nodded, smiling back at him. "I may seem a littl daft at times, but even I would not sleep in the same hut as a man who tried to kill me." She said, humor in her voice. "But I think that I should at least be checking up on Sesshoumaru's wounds before retiring." Kagome stood up, walking back into the hut slowly.
Letting her eyes adjust enough to see in the dark, she made the way to the cot. Reaching down drawing back the blanket from around his chest, she made sure he was not bleeding as steady as before.
She was just turning to leave when she felt a clawed hand upon her wrist.
ARGH!!! This was probably the hardest chapter to write by far. And its not even very long! Oh well, I've been really busy lately anyway, as outlined in the note at the top. Hope you enjoyed this small chapter, though there wasn't much happening in this one either.
Japanese:
Onegai- Please
Not a lot of Japanese either. Yargh! Oh well. At least its up, and people can stop telling me to update now. I'm only working 15 hours this week, so more time to write. Unless they call me in.
Oh! And to those who may or may not want a lemon in this story, you can just review and tell me if I should write one, k? Arigato! Ja ne!
Disclaimer: I don't own anything having to do with Inuyasha, which makes me really sad. Oh well. I woulda had him nekkid by now anyway. ^-~

Arigato! Ja ne!
