Chapter 13 - The End of Patience
 
 
Kouga cradled Kagome against his chest.  He reached the campsite quickly
and laid her down.  The wolf prince watched her sleep for another hour,
noting the rise and fall of her chest and the quick flutter of her eyelids

couple.  Shippo snoozed nearby after being berated by the monk and the

Kagome woke slowly, coming out of the dense fog of her unconsciousness,
sensing the proximity of a demon.  She realized by the aura that it must be
Kouga. Her body reacted quickly to his nearness, her heart pounding

stunned at this reaction and at her body's ability to recognize what her eyes

them, I won't have to go far.  Just yell if you need me and don't go
anywhere without Sango or me."
 
 
"Okay."  She replied.
 
 
Kouga turned and entered the forest.  Sango got up and moved herself and
Kagome out of the monk's earshot.
 
 
"Thanks, Sango.  I need some advice."  Kagome took a deep breath
and blushed profusely.  "I want to give myself to Kouga."
 
 
"Really,  that's wonderful!"  Sango exclaimed.  "It's about
time, dammit!" 
 
 
Kagome sweat dropped and stared at the demon slayer.  "I thought you
would be trying to talk me out of this, telling me all the reasons this is a bad
idea."
 
 
"Do you want me to talk you out of this?"  Sango asked, one eyebrow
raised.  "Kagome, let me speak freely.  I don't know what happened
earlier between you and Inuyasha, but I will tell you this.  He is a
selfish, immature demon all the way through.  If you continue to wait for
him you will only be disappointed and hurt in the end.  Even if he did
choose you, he could never give you the love and devotion that Kouga has shown
you.  Inuyasha doesn't have it in him to love anyone more than himself. 
I know deep down inside you know all these things,  you just needed to hear them out loud. 
Now come on, we have to get you ready."
 
 
The two girls took off toward the lake, Kagome's bag in tow.  Nearby in
a tree a certain hanyou watched them, his heart slowly sinking in his chest.
 
 
Kouga returned about half an hour later, worried to find only the monk
pretending to meditate near the fire.  Hakkaku and Ginta were on his heels
as usual and when the demon stopped the two dropped into an exhausted heap next
to the monk.
 
 
"Where are the girls?"  He asked.
 
 
"I believe they went to bathe."  Miroku replied.
 
 
Kouga took off toward the lake.  Halfway down the trail, he encountered
the girls, laughing as they walked back toward the camp.  "Where have you
been?  Inuyasha is still out there, unaccounted for, you know."  He
stated.
 
 
"I'm going to leave you two alone."  Sango continued to head up the
path.  "Good luck, Kagome."  She tossed over her shoulder.
 
 
"What does she mean, good luck?"  Kouga asked Kagome.  Kagome
smiled and held out her arms.
