But it would seem, Jakotsu would soon learn, that he would have to wait a while longer before he was able to be alone with Bankotsu. As soon as dawn arrived the next morning, the three of them set off on their way after saying a quick goodbye to Inuyasha and his family, with Jakotsu promising to come visit him again and Inuyasha softly whispering for Bankotsu to take take of him. Though he hadn't really put much thought into it, Jakotsu had assumed that they would be taking different directions and that Renkotsu would soon be separating from them.
But when an hour passed and then again and the third rider was still with them, Jakotsu began to grow confused at his continued presence. For a little while he rode in silence, trying to come up with the safest answer to the question of why he was following them, not wanting to come off rude or sounding desperate to be alone with Bankotsu; even if that was exactly how he was feeling. But no matter how he ran over the conversation in his mind, he could not get the words to sound right and decided to just stop trying. Though, as the thought about it a bit more before finally speaking, Jakotsu realized he might be able to avoid the whole thing by simply speaking to Bankotsu instead of Renkotsu.“What is our next move?” Jakotsu finally inquired, slightly startling the two men who seemed to be as lost in thought as he was; though for different reasons. And though he had obviously been speaking to Bankotsu, Jakotsu found himself even more startled than they had been a moment before when it was Renkotsu that answered him.“We are heading to speak to an old boss of mine. If he's still at the mining camp, which I suspect he is, he should have some good information for you,” Renkotsu called over his shoulder without bothering to look back at him and instead kept his eyes on the passing scenery for any signs of an ambush. It was fairly common to be attacked by robbers around these parts; especially when traveling in such a small group.
