Chapter Three, Part II -

"Got that. I'll see you soon okay? Say hi to Jii-chan, Mama and Souta for me,"

When Kagome hung up the phone, her mom was already there to hand her a cup of tea. Kagome sighed, knowing her mother heard everything.

"Vampires, huh?"

"Hai,"

"And silver-haired...men?"

Kagome didn't know what to say. She never told her mom about 'those' dreams; she honestly didn't know why. It wasn't as if she didn't trust her mother. She did, of course. She just never brought it up with her mom.

"Mama["

"I knew it! It has to be Fate, Kagome,"

"Nani? What are you["

It was Mrs. Higurashi's turn to interrupt her daughter.

"The man who helped me when you were born. He was silver-haired too. Did you get the name of the man you met?"

Suddenly a lightbulb went 'on' in Kagome's head. Of course! Why didn't she think of that? Her mom was brilliant!

"Mama, I think I know who your mystery 'hunk' is,"

Meanwhile, Sesshomaru had just deposited a sleeping Inuyasha on his own bed and was currently giving out orders to the house-servants when a still-human hanyou opened his eyes. He still had a few hours to go before he comes back to his original form. Dawn was the catalyst.

"So you're finally awake. How do you feel?"

Sesshomaru closed the distance to the floor-to-ceiling windows and stood there, crossing his arms across his chest.

"Like shit,"

Inuyasha's voice rasped out, still hoarse from his ordeal.

"Well, you sound like shit too. At least you don't look like one. You have your mate to thank for that,"

Inuyasha was suddenly throwing the covers off him and trying to gain his feet at the same time.

"Kagome[where is she? She was there! Is she safe? Is she alright?"

Sesshomaru fought the urge to roll his eyes at his brother. Taiyoukai never did those kind of things. But having a sibling that was Inuyasha would make you wish you can do undignified things sometimes.

"Relax. She's alive and well. Did you think I would let any harm come to your woman?"

Inuyasha visibly relaxed at his older brother's reply, no longer fighting to get out of bed. His mate was safe, he was sure now.

"No, of course not. But there were too many of them for her to handle alone so I got worried naturally,"

A twinkle of pride[ and was that amusement?[ appeared in Sesshomaru's eyes before he informed his brother of his mate's deeds.

"There were only three left when I got there. I actually think she could've dwindled it down to two if I hadn't interrupted,"

Inuyasha was surprised[and proud as well[ at what Sesshomaru told him.

"No shit? There were ten of the bastards when they came after me. I managed to kill five of them. If I wasn't human..."

Sesshomaru waved that thought aside with his hand.

"No matter. You still managed to cut their number in half. That is impressive, to my mind. How did you manage to kill so many?"

Now Inuyasha did roll his eyes at his brother.

"We're talking about me here right? I'm still strong even in human form. I used the other blade you gave me; Tetsusaiga wouldn't do. I cut off the head and plunged my blade through the heart. And surprise, surprise: it doesn't have to be silver if you do that,"

Sesshomaru nodded.

"Then some of the legends might be true too. Wood through the heart might work just as well,"

"And it's less expensive. I'll give it a try sometime,"

Sesshomaru now moved towards the door when his brother's question reached him.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

He didn't pretend to be stupid. Of course he knew what Inuyasha was asking.

"I honestly didn't know until late tonight. By the time I tried to find you and tell you... well, you know what happened,"

Inuyasha was still looking at him suspiciously. Sesshomaru couldn't resist, and he rapped a knuckle to his younger brother's head for good measure.

"Baka! Do you think I'd deliberately keep that from you? I know how important seeing your mate is to you; I know you've waited long enough. I was just too busy to answer Miroku's calls until it was too late,"

Inuyasha shrugged off his brother's hand.

"I believe you, Oni-san. Why Miroku didn't call me first["

Sesshomaru looked at him drolly.

"You can't think of a reason? We're talking about you here, aren't we?"

His brother was right. Although he has mellowed in time, his impulsive and reckless self still presented itself quite often. Inuyasha admitted he would have rushed to Kagome the moment he knew she was back. To hell with her not knowing him.

"Don't rush her, Inuyasha. I know this is hard for you, but we owe her that. Look at how we did with Miroku; that should give you an idea,"

Miroku was the first they found. Inuyasha was too stubborn to acknowledge the fact that his friend didn't remember him.
