Memoirs of a Divine Intervention

Chapter 11: Memoirs of a Divine Intervention

*Flashback*

A much younger Sesshoumaru stared at the back of a bloody, older replica of himself. His father, the Great Demon Lord of the Western Lands had just returned, victorious from a battle against his long-time powerful nemesis, Ryokotsusei.

He stood overlooking the waves washing upon the beach. He knew something was coming, and could feel an anxious tugging at his heart. The earth seemed quiet except for the unusual tumultuousness of the sea and the rolling of the clouds overhead. Suddenly he felt the presence of his cold tempered son come to stand behind him. As all parents can, he could sense the barely controlled emotions coming from Sesshoumaru. “The pup does well trying to hide his feelings from me,” he thought to himself with a sad smile. He felt the waves of disdain and a mild tremor of hatred float to his senses and it made him slightly despair, knowing that this might very well be the last time they would be together.

“Do you insist upon going father,” Sesshoumaru asked, knowing full well the look of intense determination upon the older Taiyoukai’s face that came when he had his mind set upon doing something.

“Will you stop me Sesshoumaru?” His father had hoped that perhaps his son would break away from his stubborn and cold exterior for once and pour out his heart to him but, somehow he know that Sesshoumaru, young though he was, was extremely proud and wouldn’t show his vulnerability to anyone.

“I will not stop you. However, before you go please entrust the swords Sounga and Tetsusaiga, to me.” Sesshoumaru answered quietly. Through his years of training he had been able to control his emotions. Able to suppress any emotion so that no demon could sense his thoughts or presence, but it was taking his entire being not to rage at his father for his betrayal. So he did it in the best way he knew how, with searing words.

Sesshoumaru’s father felt his heart steel and he stared out deeper at the torrential waves crashing against the shore ever forcefully. “And if I say I won’t, will you kill me, your own father? Do you desire power so much? Why do you seek power?”

Sesshoumaru fell silent as he continued to stare at the figure before him. In that moment he felt a surge of power come from the Taiyoukai and just as quickly as it flared over him it retreated away. However much Sesshoumaru hated his father in these moments, it still amazed him how powerful The Lord of the West was. “The path I walk is the Way of Supreme Conquest,” he answered quietly. “It is power that will reveal the way for me.”

His father let a mirthless laugh fall from his throat. “The Way of Supreme Conquest huh? Tell me Sesshoumaru… Have you someone to protect?”

Sesshoumaru was at a loss. His eyes widened with shock at the strange and appalling question asked of him. “Someone to protect? I, Sesshoumaru, have no need of such.”

At this statement Sesshoumaru flexed his claws as if to challenge his sire, but the Taiyoukai having heard the finality of his son’s answer knew there was nothing more he could tell him. The winds seemed to howl as he changed into his magnificent silver dog demon form and raced away to the two beings that were his protectorates.

Over the years Sesshoumaru had grown into the stoic cold demon that ruled over the Western Lands. His mercilessness toward powerful, or weak demons and humans alike were notorious and the Lords of the other three regions began to worry. Especially one Lord in particular, a great tiger demon from the northern lands called Kubaksuru. He came from a long line of ancestors who had been rumored to be descendants of the angelic revelators in heaven, due to the amazing revelations his tribe had been able to predict in past times.

With such a powerful advantage, Kubaksuru and the Great Dog Lord of the West had formed a tight allegiance and over time they had become inseparable friends. It was he who had told the Taiyoukai of the Divine role that his sons would play. He could remember that odd day as if it happened yesterday. It had been strange because his dreams and visions would only come to him in a time of dire peril. However, on that day he and his friend had a moment of quiet when they sat out on the vast hillside that overlooked the western lands. Overhead the sky was a endless sea of blue that was littered here and there with gentle clouds. They would go there whenever they needed a time of peace and it was then that Kubaksuru felt in his being a powerful revelation flow from him.

“In the coming years you will sire two sons. The first born will be the Soul of Heaven, and the second will be the Heart of Man. Both will have a great part in the destiny of the future of this world. They will be strong but, due to conflict and confusion surrounding their lives, they will hate one another. If they remain enclosed by hate then the world will surely come to an end. However, it will be love that will unite them. A Goddess who will seek her protectors against the Corruption of Mind. This corruption is an abomination, and he was once destined to be the God-mate of the Goddess, but because of his love of power and destruction, he was stricken down and cursed to be reborn not as a God but as a human. This Corruption will stop at nothing to secure the Goddess because if he joins with her then he will attain his full powers by threefold. It is inevitable that the most important battle of all time will happen because of this, so it is imperative that you prepare your sons. The first born will be destined to wield the Tenseiga of Heaven and the second to wield the Tetsusaiga of Earth. As for Sounga, it must never enter either of their hands because it will corrupt them. That sword is an extreme evil and only you are powerful enough to wield it. However, when it comes time for you to leave this realm you cannot let it fall into evil clutches. The only way for you to vanquish the sword will be for your sons to combine the power of Tetsusaiga and Tenseiga. It must be destroyed, for if the Corruption got hold of it the world would be in peril.”

When the tiger fell silent he looked over at his friend who sat quietly, staring at him in thoughtful wonder.

“Can there be any hope for victory?” The Dog Lord asked softly.

“Trust in your sons my friend. Trust that they will have the strength to overcome the hardships that will come into their lives. Trust that they will find the Goddess.” Kubaksuru smiled gently as he gazed into the heavens. “I cannot tell you if they will succeed but my heart tells me to hope and believe in true love.” He lowered his eyes and they rested on the demon beside him. “And I do. In the end love always conquers all, despite the threats and promises of darkness.”

Many centuries passed since the revelation and the death of Kubaksuru’s best friend but, the feeling of urgency had never resurfaced itself concerning Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha. However, recently he had been feeling a tugging at his heart concerning the prophecy. It was time to reveal a great truth to his Godson in the West.
