Just a Little Rivalry

Disclaimer: I’m broke. I don’t make money doing this. I also don’t Inu Yasha or any of the characters associated with the series/manga/ect. If I owned them, then I would make money and wouldn’t be broke. (Author sticks tongue out at goofy opportunist lawyers.) And before you fuss about anything else, you really bored lawyers, I don’t own any other media mentioned.

Chapter 12: Visitors

Inu Yasha and Kagome cleaned up somewhat quickly and set off downstairs. Momma was blushing and smiling while her husband had a huge grin on his face. Miroku was flashing Inu Yasha a big thumbs up, and Sango was winking at Kagome. Sesshomaru was as stoic as ever.

A small bundle raced toward Kagome and latched onto her leg.

“Hello, I’m Rin. What’s your name? You’re pretty. Do you like flowers? I love flowers. Are you okay? Would you like to play?”

Kagome took a second to answer as many questions as she could. “I’m Kagome. Sango and I are best friends. I love flowers, too and would love to play with you, Rin.”

Rin was ecstatic that this new girl seemed to like her. She detached herself from the leg that she had been hugging. She ran into the next room to get some paper and markers that were kept in there for her. Inu Yasha and Kagome sat down in the den with the rest of the family and joined in the discussion of how school was going and who was taking what.

“So Kagome, you are a criminal justice major just like Koga?” Sesshomaru asked without really asking.

Kagome turned a big smile towards him and replied, “Sure am and so is Sango. We are in the same study group, too. He’s a great guy. How long have you two know each other?”

Sesshomaru gave minimal information about his friendship with the wolf demon. He did, however, smile while Kagome continued to color with Rin and drew little pictures for her to color.

Rin chatted about different things that she was coloring.

Inu Taisho and Inu Yasha were finishing up planning their arrangements for moving for this next week and smiling at the scene in front of them. Inu Yasha noticed the smile that his older half-brother was flashing his mate, but he couldn’t smell any arousal coming from him.

Izayoi was relaxing while she curled up in her comfortable chair and chatting with Sango and Miroku, proudly bragging about the upcoming wedding and all her hopes and dreams for the ceremony and life afterward. It was apparent that she fell in love at first sight with her new daughter and soon to be daughter-in-law.

The room was comfortably noisy with the happy sounds of a family reuniting when Jaken entered the room and announced, “My Lord, there is a delivery of flowers addressed to the new Lady. Where should I place them?”

Kagome gave everyone a quizzical look in return for the confused a curious ones they were sending her. She spoke up and answered the portly toad demon.

“Um…please bring them here. Was there a card?

“Yes, ma’am.”

He proceeded to follow her directions and returned to a large arrangement of various colors of roses, orchids and other flowers and greenery.

Kagome pulled out the card and read it out loud.

“To a Fair Flower
And Brightly Shining Star
I’ll Catch You Someday
And We Shall Never Part.

Your Secret Lover.”

A shiver passed down her back. All eyes turned to Inu Yasha, see that he was quickly becoming enraged. He was almost positive who had sent that arrangement and wrote that card. His first action didn’t catch anyone by surprise except maybe Kagome as he picked her up and began to head out of the room.

His second action, however, shocked the entire room as he growled loudly at Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru kept his stoic face, although his eyes reflected his confusion and then comprehension. His father knew that he was royally pissed off at the slight and accusation that the younger boy threw at him through his actions.

As fast as he could go, Inu Yasha carried his precious bundle to his room only to lock his door and place her on their bed. He began to growl at her when she made a move to get situated and possibly stand up.

She quickly decided to just leave it at shifting around and curling her legs up to her chest and resting her chin on her knees.

In front of her eyes, her mate began to change somewhat dramatically. His puppy ears disappeared replaced with some that resembled his older brother’s and father’s. He had a purple stripe appear on each cheek-just like his father’s. Claws and fangs lengthened, and his growling intensified.

Kagome felt that she should be scared but remained calm and began to do the most peculiar thing. A low whining sound began to come from her. The sound surprised her but did the most surprising thing. Inu Yasha began to quiet down and relax as he curled up with her.

He continued his growling for a little while and was still quietly doing so when they were interrupted.

Knock
Knock
Knock

The volume began to rise as the doorknob was jiggled. When the visitor was denied access, he apparently left.

~That evening~

Kagome finally managed to get Inu Yasha back to his normal self. She was displeased that he had caused such a separation with his family when he was only concerned.

“I love you, my mate.” His attempts at getting her ire to soothe were succeeding to a small extent.

“I really would like it if you would apologize to Sesshomaru. You had no cause to direct your anger at him. Why would you do that anyway?”

“I’ll apologize when he does. And, that’ll happen when it snows in hell.”

“What the fuck are you talking about. DAMN!” Inu Yasha stared at Kagome in astonishment after her little outburst. He needed to placate her now or risk her staying this mad at him for a while.

He made a flash decision. His arms wrapped around her waist and anchored her to him. He placed his chin on top of her head and began to rub back and forth. He placed kisses on her cheek and the side of her neck down toward her mark.

She began to relax and finally released a sigh. He knew that she wasn’t happy, but at least she was still mad.

The two decided to head downstairs and watch a movie together.

They had just gotten settled and the movie started when something crashed head on into Kagome’s lap. She gasped with surprised and smiled down at it sweetly before snuggling it in and letting her curl up.

Rin fell asleep moments after running and jumping into Kagome’s lap. She smiled over at Inu Yasha settled quite quickly for a hyper little girl.

Inu Yasha couldn’t help but to smile back and fantasize about Kagome loving on their own pups one day. He anchored her to him with an arm and got her head snuggled into his shoulder.

The little scene was spied on by Sesshomaru, and he tactfully went and sat down in a recliner and relaxed enjoying the old comedy that the couple had selected. They laughed at the farce, “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”.

Everything was calm and settled when there was a loud banging on the door.

Both Inu Yasha and Sesshomaru went to answer the door, seeing as Jaken was already in bed.

They knew who was at the door as soon as they had reached it.

Sesshomaru grasped the handle; Inu Yasha began to emit a feral growl.

As the door opened the growls grew in volume and formed words.

“What in the hell do you want, you bastards?”


Well, here is my 12th chapter. I hope you all enjoy. For all of you that are asking about Sesshomaru’s feeling for Kagome, they will be revealed for what they are over the next couple of chapters.
