My Name
A/N: Yes I was a little irked about the one review but I've vented and won't think any further on it. I didn't update yesterday for a reason. I do work and I also have a ten year old, I'm a single mother so I usually update after six p.m. Yesterday my sister came by after dinner and I went out with her for the evening and didn't get home till late. I don't plan to stop writing, I just took a day off. On my budget I won't pass up the chance when someone else is willing to spend money on me. = ) I thank you for the reviews.
Chapter Eleven
"We'll see you tomorrow, have a goodnight."
Sango grabbed her bag after changing, she wanted to get home before the rain began to come down harder. She'd tried to call the apartment but hadn't gotten an answer. Kagome had told her that some of Kurama's freinds were coming over for dinner. It was only a little after midnight so there was a good chance that they were still there. Which would explain them not picking up the phone, she wasn't due to get off until four. No need to interrupt their evening, she'd walk home.
"Hey, Sango!"
She turned to see Jiro, one of the bartenders, walking up to her. "Yes?" From what she knew of him, he was in his early twenties. He had short black hair, brown eyes and was average looking.
"Walking home tonight?"
"Yes, I think I will. It's only a light rain, so I should be fine." She smiled at him ready to leave.
"Mind if I walk with you? A pretty girl like yourself shouldn't be walking home alone."
She wanted to tell him no. All night she'd been waiting to go home, hoping that the mysterious youkai would show up again. Then again he probably wouldn't show up again, "Okay but I don't live far."
"Awesome, let me grab my stuff and I'll meet you outside."
Sango nodded and headed out the side door to wait on the young man. The moment she stepped outside she felt the eyes on her. He was there once again waiting for her to come out. She met his eyes across the distance, he was hiding in the shadows. A smile crossed her face at seeing him once more watching her. The door opened behind her allowing Jiro to step out.
"Ready?"
"Sure," She suddenly wished she was rude enough to tell him to leave. Maybe she could get rid of him down the block. A hand was placed on her back to guide her forward. He struck up a conversation about a fight that taken place earlier that evening in the club. A nod and a reply there and he seemed happy with her. As they walked she could feel herself being watched. The rain began to pick up as they turned the corner. "I should be okay from here, go ahead and head back. Don't want you to get soaked."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'll be fine." She smiled up at him hoping he'd take the hint.
"Alright, but before I leave I want to ask you something. Since we both have this friday off would you like to go out to dinner?"
"I'm not sure if Kagome has anything planned yet, I'll let you know tomorrow at work."
"Okay, I'll see you then." He left her standing there as the rain began to pour down.
She took a deep breath, "You can come down now." He landed behind her softly. "Is there a reason you keep following me?"
"I told you why, who is that male?" His gaze turned to look in the direction Jiro had ran off in.
"Just a co-worker, no one important. So does my stalker have a name?" She asked, wanting a name to go with the face. He was about to reply when voices were heard coming down the street. Sango recognized Yusuke and his girlfriend. "You better get out of here."
"Come with me."
"What?" She felt him grab her around the waist before he took off. The ground was left behind her as she held onto his arms. "Please don't drop me." Fear filled her not sure if she could trust him.
"Relax if I wanted to kill you I would have already done so." His hold tightened around her, pulling her against his body. He flew putting some distance between them and the man he had felt. His ward only worked at a certain distance, he didn't want to risk an encounter.
She watched the emotions cross his face. Her brain screamed at her, she was being completely stupid. She'd just left with a youkai that she knew nothing about, without any means to protect herself. Her rational side debated over the facts. He could have killed her already if that was what he was after. He'd also gone out of his way to save her. A part of her wanted to trust him and believe that he meant her no harm. "Sango."
"Kaori, where would you like to go?"
"Out of the rain would be nice, that roof over there will do."
Kagome rolled over in her bed to look at the clock and groaned. It was time to get up and face another day. Dinner had been pleasant enough considering. She'd ran into her room and made herself presentable, erasing almost all evidence of what had taken place. She thanked whatever gods had convinced him to be pleasant towards her. Of course she knew it was because his friends had been there. He was being nice for their benefit not hers. What would he say next time they were alone?
Would he bring up last night? How was she going to continue looking for a mate after what had happened? How could she be with another man? Should she tell the others today when they came by? Would they be able to tell that she was no longer a virgin? Why had he done it to begin with? How would Koenma take it if she told him she wouldn't accept a mate now?
She got up slipping on her robe so she could go heat up some water. She was walking down the hall when the front door opened and Sango came walking in. "Uh, Sango?"
"Yes? What are you doing up so early?" Sango walked in smiling, not sure if she was up for the questions.
"Of course I am, its after six. Are you just getting home? Shouldn't you gotten off two hours ago?" Kagome walked into the living room to confront her. Her eyes glanced over to see Kurama glancing up from his pillow.
"I did but there was a fight last night. I stayed after to help clean up the mess. Then I stayed a little later, a few of us sat around making idle talk. I came home when they started closing up." She hoped they would accept the explanation. Kagome would flip if she informed her that she'd spent the last four hours sitting on a rooftop talking to a strange youkai.
"Oh, are you going to stay up for breakfast?"
"No, I'm going to jump in the shower and head to bed." Sango walked past her to go inside her room. She hurried before Kurama got too close to her, she wasn't sure if how close he'd have to get in order to smell the man on her. He was in a human body but he was still a youkai.
Kagome watched her go in disappointment, no Sango meant she was to be alone with him. She turned around and headed for the kitchen. Her stomach growled from not eating much last night at dinner. She was putting the kettle on the stove when Kurama came into the kitchen.
"We need to talk."
