Time Together

Kagome felt blissfully happy as the next three weeks went by. They went by too fast for her. After Koronue joined them they were able to make better time. Inuyasha went to carrying Kikyo while he carried Kagome. Of course Kikyo ended up on Inuyasha's back while Koronue didn't give her time to ask. He picked her up bridal style the first day and carried her. A few hours a day he did let her sit on his back. Spending the whole day being carried made her ache so she opted for swapping positions now and then.

Miroku and Sango came to like the newest member. He was friendlier than Kikyo, then again who wasn't. What impressed the couple more was the way he treated Kagome. Whenever they were attacked, his main goal seemed to protect the girl. They wondered how Inuyasha felt at knowing he'd been replaced.

Kouga showed up one day, which proved to be entertaining. He showed up in his usual way while the group was preparing to leave for the morning. He appeared in a tornado, right in front of the girl. She turned around to find herself looking at the wolf. "Uh, hi Kouga."

He grabbed her hands placing them in his. "Morning, Kagome. Have you missed me?" He turned to see Inuyasha glaring at him from his left. "I see you are still with dogshit." A fist landed hard from the right knocking him back several feet. He landed against a tree, blood was pooling from his lip. "Fucking dogshit." He immediately glanced over to glare at the hanyou. But he hadn't moved, so he turned back to Kagome.

A tall man was standing next to her with his arm around her shoulder. From the looks of him Kouga guessed him to be a bat youkai. 'What the hell is going on?' He stood up and turned his eyes on him. "Who the fuck are you. Get your hands off my woman."

His eyebrow lifted at the statement. "I beg to differ, she belongs to me." Kagome blushed at the comment. Koronue took a step forward, he'd kill the wolf if he insisted on fighting.

Kagome didn't want to see them fight and grabbed his hand. "It's okay, its just Kouga. He's a friend, he has a weird notion that he's in love with me." This caused a growl to spring from his chest. "He's harmless."

Kouga didn't like the way she was looking up at the man. "Hnnn. Harmless my ass, get your hands off her."

He made took a step forward, he'd tear the wolf's head off. "Koronue please don't." Kagome tried holding him back, which was funny to watch.

"Koronue? As in the Koronue?" Kouga asked. The man just glared at him and Kouga knew it was him. Almost every full blooded youkai had heard of the bandits Koronue and Youko Kurama. Somehow Kagome had gotten mixed up with one of them. "Fine, I'll let you keep her for now but as soon as I kill Naraku I'm coming back for her." He left as quick as he'd shown up.

Kagome let a sigh escape, no bloodshed today.


On the nights they slept under the stars, he slept next to the girl. Some nights they slipped away for a few hours then returned. He stayed by her side. Koronue knew he was in love with the small girl. She'd somehow broken into the wall kept around his heart and made a permanent home.

The youkai knew he was acting like a lovesick fool but it didn't matter. She did. He saw the looks he got when he held her in his arms at night. The hanyou was jealous, the monk envious, the taijiya was pleased, and the corpse was expressionless. Only once did he see any emotion cross Kikyo's face. That was when he'd first kissed Kagome in front of everyone. Her eyes were sad and full of envy. He guessed because even though the hanyou was mated to her he hardly showed her any tenderness. Koronue couldn't imagine treating Kagome with anything less.

Everytime she smiled it made his heart melt. He knew Youko would bitch at him for acting this way about one woman. Yet he didn't care. The day Youko finally came back, he was torn.

It was dawn and he was already up waiting for the others when he felt the presence of his old friend. He sighed knowing he had to leave her. He left her sleeping there to greet his friend. The fox was waiting patiently.

Youko saw his friend arrive and spoke first. "I see you've been busy." There was the smallest amount of anger in his voice. "You've changed."

"Have I?" He asked. He knew it was true.

"Careful, we both know humans aren't worth getting attached to." Youko found himself pinned against a tree. His eyes widened at the look in his friend's eyes.

"I love you like a brother but watch what you say. You have no idea what you gave up when you decided not to pursue her."

"Sorry, I won't fight with you. I can see that you care for her." Youko saw the love in his friend's eyes. "Have you told her how you feel?"

"No, I won't tell her until she is ready. What brings you here early?"

"I heard some news about an ancient artifact said to give the user unusual sight into the future. There's speculation on its worth. I figured we could go check it out." Youko held his breathe, for a minute he was scared his partner would decline to stay with the girl.

"Okay, but I need to go tell her." He walked back to the camp.

Youko followed behind his friend wanting to see her also. Jealousy rose at the thought that his partner had bedded the girl. Yet, he had given him permission. The past few weeks had been hell for him. The girl had stayed in his thoughts for some reason, he dismissed her everytime.


Kagome woke up when she found coldness instead of his warmth. She looked around and he wasn't with her. She heard a twig snap and looked up. She smiled at seeing him, then her heart dropped when she saw the fox standing behind him. He was leaving! His partner had returned for him. She bit her lips not wanting to let the tears fall. She stood on shaky legs and walked towards him.

He pulled her in his arms. "It's time for me leave. I'll be heading out with Youko."

"I know," she hugged him close to her. A single tear fell down her cheek.

He lifted her face to gaze into her eyes. "Save your tears, I'll be back." He smiled down at her, he was going to miss her. He bent his head and placed a chaste kiss on her mouth.

Kagome brought her hand up pulling him down. She kissed him deep, putting her feelings into it. He returned the kiss, holding her tight. He pulled back out of her embrace. Kagome watched him walk away without looking back. She wondered if he would have just left if he'd have known it would be the last time he'd see her.
