Stupidity
Chapter Twelve
Kagome had refused to ride on Inuyasha's back, instead the hanyou was now stuck carrying the houshi. Much to his displeasure, Miroku weighed almost twice as much as the girl. Everyone had asked what happened a few nights ago but he refused to give any answers. All he said was, "She isn't coming back." He felt horrible at seeing the tears streaming down his best friend's face. She told him he was selfish and stupid. She'd just lost her chance to better herself. And he couldn't even give them a valid reason.
"Stop squeezing so hard with your thighs dammit, I'm not Sango."
"Sorry, Inuyasha. Your hair is just so long and silky." Miroku felt himself being dropped and wished he'd kept his mouth shut. At least waited until the hanyou wasn't jumping in the air. He fell to the earth the impact knocking the breathe from his body. "Ow.. thats going to leave a mark."
Inuyasha kept jumping along leaving the houshi there. Everyone else was ahead so they didn't see the houshi being dropped. Mirkoku cursed his luck, they would be back as soon as the girls realized what happened.
Several minutes passed and he decided to take a seat and wait. Give his thighs a chance to rest. No one knew what had crawled up the man's ass. He was grumpier than usual, snapping at everything. Kagome might have been able to get him to calm down but the girl didn't try. She was angry at him and seemed to plan on staying that way. Miroku could understand, the other girl had done nothing to deserve that kind of hostility. Hell, he'd been threatened by the houshi himself, Sango and even Shippo at one point. They had been forgiven, Inuyasha hadn't dwelled on it. Even Kikyo pinned him to the tree and then gave Naraku half of the jewel and Inuyasha ran to her like a faithful puppy. He was like a puppy that had just been beaten with a newspaper and went back to chewing on his master's shoe.
He hoped his luck would hold out since Kagome was carrying his staff. The only means of protection he had was his kazaana and dashing good looks. Ten more minutes passed and he began to fidget, surely at least Sango would notice his abscence. A loud noise came from his left. He was suddenly cursing Inuyasha. Luck would have it that he would run into a demon that he couldn't use his kazaana on.
The demon was very large, fifteen feet in height, some type of lizard. He had large blades all over his back and down his tail. If he tried sucking him in, it could cause injury and tear the hole open more. He stood up and bowed towards the demon, flashing the smile that most the village girls fell for. Okay that wasn't going to work either. "Time to run." Hopefully the others were on their way back for him. He heard the lizard bounding towards him, knocking the smaller trees over as it went. Miroku jumped over a fallen log and landed in a mud puddle. Not stopping to worry about his dirty socks, he spotted a clearing near and ran for it.
He rushed out, thanking his lucky stars when he no longer heard the beast behind him. He turned to face forward again when the lizard jumped over the last few trees and the few feet seperating them to land in front of him. Miroku stopped so suddenly he almost pitched forward falling directly into the creature's mouth. The lizard took a few minutes to get his bearings while he took a few steps back. 'Okay Inuyasha, you can come save me anytime now.' The demon settled his four eyes back on the houshi. They clearly said "LUNCH TIME".
"Get down," Miroku heard the voice and hit the deck. No one had to tell him twice. The arrow flew over his head in a flash of pink light, hitting the beast between the eyes. He released the breathe he'd been holding. Saved! They'd gotten to him in time. He stood up to thank Kagome. They weren't here. He looked around and then he spotted her standing not far from him. "Lady Leiko, I am so glad to see you."
She walked up to him looking around for his friends. Okay she was looking around for Inuyasha. Not seeing anyone but the houshi she asked. "What are you doing out here alone weaponless?"
"Ahhh long story. I am ever grateful for you assistance." He bowed to her. He debated about asking her THE question, then thought better of it. She might laugh at the notion but if Sesshomaru ever found out things wouldn't be too pretty. "Hopefully they will notice my abscence and come back before anything else attacks me."
"That would be wise of them." She turned to walk away.
"Please don't go. Would you do me the honor of blessing me with your company until they return for me?"
'Hell no! I don't want to see him again.' A sigh passed her mouth. "Fine, but the moment they arrive I am leaving."
"Thank you once again." He sat down and motioned for her to do the same.
She did but it showed that she wasn't too happy about the situation. The moment they came into view she was hauling ass faster than Myouga when Sesshomaru showed up. "You shouldn't stare, its rude."
"Sorry, but you must realize that you are indeed beautiful." He gave her that heart-throbbing smile. Okay, didn't work that time either.
"Hmph, spare me the compliments. You thanked me for helping that is enough." She pulled her chin down to rest on her knees. The houshi was talking but her eyes closed. She'd been traveling for days non-stop, she'd get a quick nap in while the houshi sat next to her. He would most likely wake her up if any danger came near.
Miroku looked over at her. 'Sleeping?' She must be tired to fall asleep while alone with him of all people. So he sat waiting for his friends keeping an eye out so the girl could rest. She started leaning to the side so he scouted over and let her head rest on his shoulder. Playing pillow really wasn't that bad even if he had to keep his hands to himself. Feeling up a sleeping girl after she'd just saved his life didn't sit well with him. He'd wait until she woke up.
"Where the hell is he?" Inuyasha was pissed. First the girls were still yelling at him for dropping him somewhere. Now, they couldn't find the bastard.
Kirara sprang forward, she'd sensed something. They ran for a few more minutes before finding some fallen trees. Something big had run through. "Inuyasha look." She was over a fallen log. He looked down, footprints. "Think he came this way?"
"Maybe, lets go." He leapt forward ahead of the girls. He prayed they found the houshi in one piece. After several minutes he burst through into a clearing. He felt his anger rise at seeing Miroku's back with a woman leaning against him. They were worried about him and he'd went and picked up some strange woman.
Miroku sensed his friends coming, finally. Shame he'd have to wake the girl up. He was suprised Inuyasha's loud voice didn't do the job to start with. "Dammit Miroku, leave it to you to find a woman to pick up."
He turned around to see the others as well. Sango looked extremely pissed. He sighed, the one time he was behaving and they already found him guilty. "It's not what it looks like."
"Yeah right, get rid of the bimbo so we can leave." Inuyasha stopped when the scent hit his nose. He growled, he was going to kill the bastard.
"Get your fucking hands off her." He leapt forward pulling the two apart. Miroku rolled and stood up glaring at his friend.
"It's not Kikyo. So calm down." Miroku expected the girl to wake up at the manhandling but she slept on. Her head fell forward.
"I know that."
"She's asleep Inuyasha. Don't start accusing her of wanting to attack anyone." The houshi was becoming pissed he didn't like the way Inuyasha had jerked them apart. If he didn't know any better he would have said it was out of jealousy. But that didn't make any sense.
"Sit." He landed with a thud. Kagome walked up to the girl to see what the fuss was about. "It's Leiko. What happened?"
"Since Inuyasha was kind enough to leave me to take in the scenery. I was attacked by a lizard youkai. Using my kazaana was out of the question with the large blades attached to his body. For some reason my smile isn't working properly either. I ran hoping you guys would get back in time. I was about to become indegestion when she killed it. She fell asleep while waiting with me."
"You two looked awfully fucking cozy." The hole spoke.
"She fell asleep, when she started leaning I naturally didn't move. She saved my life, I saw no need to make her place her head on the dirt. It was all innocent I assure you. I was going to wait till she woke up."
"WHAT!!!" Sango glared.
"I meant let her rest against my shoulder until she woke up, my dear Sango."
Kagome tried to lightly shake her awake. That didn't work so she tried a little bit harder. They couldn't just leave her there. "What should we do? She's in a deep sleep, she must have been very tired. We can't just leave her here."
Inuyasha climbed out the hole. They were expecting him to say they were going to do just that. Instead he bent over and picked her up. "Kagome grab her things. Miroku you will have to ride on Kirara."
"Are sure Inuyasha?" He asked.
"Yes, you can't expect me to carry both of you." Thats not what he was referring to but thats all the hanyou was going to say.
