Restless Night

**Last Chapter**

“I’ve missed you so, Kagome.” He whispered gently as he buried himself in her scent, and drifted off.

The storm continued to rage, but no one knew that a storm of another kind was close at hand.

**On with the story**

Chapter 10
Restless Night

The Southern lord felt his eyes roll as the demoness at his side sighed for what must have been the hundredth time. Minutes seemed roll through mud to pass into hours as rain pounded against the coffee shop’s cold windows. Both of them were bored, no doubt, but it was obvious that Sesshomaru and Kagome would need their own time for now. Kouga couldn’t help the lecherous smirk from stretching across his now French vanilla latte flavored lips. Ellie shifted against him and toyed with the cafe computer in mild amusement.

“Dearest.” Kouga’s gruff voice broke her zombie-like trance from the plasma screen.

“Yes?” The woman’s reply was a quick chirp, as if her willing response would somehow convince him to relent and let them return to the hotel. She had missed Kagome terribly and this was really starting to suck by her standards.

“Ebay is holding a sale on those little squishy, therapy pillows and catnip. Might want to check it out since we’re here.” Kouga couldn’t hold back the bark of laughter as his mate’s beaming grin drew into a thin line, and her aura soured from a brilliant yellow to a sludge-green.

Glaring daggers to the pig at her right, Ellie returned her gaze to the screen and dragged up the Ebay site. A satisfied smirk pulled at her sugar pink lips as she pushed the screen to face her husband. The celebrating wolf took a quick glance over only to look away and suddenly whip back, his eyes narrowing at the giggling female.

“No catnip, sweetie.” The Southern Lady purred wickedly. “However, there seems to be quite a large selection of shock collars and pain killers for the newly neutered.”

Before her growling companion could reply, Ellie felt her spine go rigid as if it had been replaced by a solid bar of ice. The hairs of her neck stood tall and her carefully disguised ears began to twitch impatiently to a distant call. Kouga noticed the change immediately and he too stood frozen as an undeniable call of warning screamed in the back of his mind. Both demons cautiously glanced about the cafe, taking every shadow into their piercing gaze. The snow leopard visibly jumped as her mate’s claws entwined with her own and shot her a meaning full glance. She leaned in slightly to listen as he slowly growled out in his own tongue. Thankfully they had both taken time to learn each other’s tongue in case a time of secrecy would call for it.

“It’s out there...in the storm.” The low yips and growls held almost no tone against the beating of their own hearts in the dark room. “Do you recognize it, Ellitari?”

“It’s so strange. I know this power, but it fills me with such darkness.” Ellie mewed back in her own tongue. “This is bad, Kouga. We must return to Sesshomaru and Kagome immediately.”

Leaving their money for the check on the small table, the two quickly made their way out into the storm.

**Sesshomaru’s Penthouse**

Silver strands swayed against the crumpled bedsheets as Sesshomaru rolled onto his side and growled as he found his mate had disappeared once again. He eyes scanning the darkness of the storm-bathed room, faintly making out the demoness’s quiet form against the glow of the cold windows. The grumbled greeting died on his lips as the detail of her rigid form broke through the fog of his mind. A slim hand against the glass as if she wished to reach out and touch the storm itself. The dark tail would twitch in tune with the lightening and once again go limp.

“Gome...” The Western Lady seemed to not notice his address to her, or even acknowledge that there was another being in the same room.

“There’s something out there...hungry.” The voice was soft and even, as if she spoke only to herself. “It’s singing to me. A voice only I know, but can’t remember the face to whom the sound belongs.” The small creature jumped as her husband’s arms came to rest around her slim frame. Only then did she take notice of him, leaning back against him and turning to see his face in the dark. “I...I don’t like this song, Sess.”

“What song is it, Kagome?” Sesshomaru’s eyes came together in a handsome frown, his lips thinning to a gentle line as he reached up to cup her cheek in comfort. “Why must you listen to it?”

“I’ve only ever heard it once...” Kagome shifted against his embrace, her eyes falling from him to the glass. “When I killed Jutori. It’s telling me what I am to do; what’s expected of me as a creature of my nature and being.” A small shiver took her limbs, forcing her to snuggle against Sesshomaru further; a sense of panic seeming to brim and flow through her. “It won’t go away! I can’t push it from my mind! It just keeps singing and singing and singing! Something is coming and I can’t stop it!” She couldn’t cease the sobs that began to take her as she swayed in his arms.

Sesshomaru couldn’t help the troubled expression from escaping his eyes. If Kagome was feeling the need to act as she had on that fated day, there was something of disasterous proportions coming for them all. At all costs, Kagome could not be allowed to sink into that frame of mind once again. He would save her from it on his own if need be. She and their children would be safe this time...he would see to it.

To Be Continued...

A.N.: I know! I know!!! Im soooo sorry, guys! It would take a book and a half to explain all of the things that have happened in my life since I went on my little siesta. Forgive the short chapter, but I figured that it was better than nothing at all.

Please be patient with me!
